Stacias Journal

Good morning all, yesterday was day 1 of my 5/1’s started (5 day fast, one day refeed - no wheat, no sugar)… my last meal was a huge carby meal (you know, that “I cant eat this again so I’ll eat a truck load now”)… I’ve always known a fast is much easier if you eat mainly protein/fat before you start. Well yesterday the cravings were soooo bad I thought I might eat the coffee table so I had a handful of nuts and a pc of cheese and that did the trick!! All cravings went away and I could breathe again. :slightly_smiling_face:… so proud of self for not giving into what I truly wanted to eat!! (Can you say Pizza and pumpkin pie :frowning:)… I just resumed my fast and so far since yesterday at 5 thru this morning I’ve been fine.

Moving forward !! :slight_smile::hugs:

YES!! I totally KNOW that meal! I was eating it nearly every time I would eat! :joy:

If you want to go Keto, you can try “dirty-Keto” in your feeding window. There are SO many amazing recipes to replace the food we normally love (including pizza and pumpkin baked goods) that are loaded with carbs.
Here’s two great websites I found if you want to check them out (maybe when you aren’t fasting).

I’m switching to dirty keto for a while with a close monitor of how much I am eating… I don’t want to load up on keto-garbage every day either. You will still need to be mindful of doing dirty keto, as I have read about people that gained weight when they went on a dirty keto free-for-all lifestyle. Mindful eating matters! But this may help with the mind tricks about deprivation that can set us off the rails in a carb feeding frenzy.

Glad to see you. Stacia! Have a great day! :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

@Kyle Excuse but what does dirty keto entail?

@Stacia Hahaha guilty of that “cant eat this again so let’s ingest some trucks of X!” and haha, eat the coffee table. lovely descriptions :sweat_smile:

Dirty Keto means having ready-made Keto Snacks/Foods from the store… like sweeteners, Keto cookies, ice cream or Quest Chips, even hot dogs. Clean keto is skipping anything with additives and preservatives or processed and just eating Whole Foods. Although I will be prioritizing healthier keto foods, I will have some ready made items (considered “dirty”) here and there to make it a more adherable lifestyle fo me. Here’s an article about the differences:

Here’s a Book on it if you really want to learn more: https://dirtylazyketo.com/about/

Thank you Kyle on the dirty keto explanation, I thought it was strict keto with a few carbs thrown in every now and then! I learned something new :slightly_smiling_face:! Miramar’s comment on another poster … “fast, analyze, tweek, repeat” was amazing. So simple. It’s like the carnivores that’s say “eat meat, drink water”. I love those simple mantras.

I’ve been doing OMAD still … I know I’ll get in the fasting grove soon. I’m sure the hec not giving up, not a chance, done that too many times. I love coming here to read and not feel so alone in all this. It’s about 90 days to Christmas and I really will start fasting, I just know it. I’m actually excited at the thought of waking up Christmas morning with smaller clothes on!! To start the new year off with some much needed change is soooo needed. Feeling hopeful just gotta get my brain to match my actions. I’m getting there !! Thanks for all your support and posts all, I love reading a mix of success and learning through tough times … we got this people ! :slight_smile:

That’s literally how I feel :blush:.

I should have explained dirty-keto before to you. Sorry about that! Definitely still low carb (under 20g p/day) you don’t want to knock yourself out of ketosis… which is where the fat loss magic happens. Yesterday I had a zero-calorie strawberry soda w/ a splash of Heavy Cream. That would be considered “dirty keto”.
Congrats on sticking to OMAD and glad you are still working your plan. As long as you don’t give up, your’e golden and will reach your goals. Like Miramar says… tweak the plan. Figure out what works for you.

Good morning all, I’m still here just reading others posts and commenting when things really stick out to me. I’m doing a ton of reflection and paying very close attention to my feelings, especially when food thoughts pop up. Still sticking to OMAD but working on cutting out grains (the alcoholic foods for me - grains and sugar). I know carnivore is helping a lot of people but it just dosnt resonate as being healthy to me? Maybe if (as some say) eating nose to tail for all the needed nutrients but the thought of eating liver and some of the other parts is just let’s say really gross to me. The liver cleans out the blood of toxins, how the hec does it make sense to eat it?? Ugh. But then I’ve been reading about Oxolates in veggies and how bad they can be for some of us … I have so many food sensitivities I swear I just want to be a breatharian. I realize I’m most likely making this way more difficult than it has to be but I’m PMSy today so things seem so much bigger and out of control today. One day at a time for me right now but feeling hopeful with all this time really reflecting on all this that I’ll find a grove and my health again. :two_hearts::pray:

It takes time to figure out what will resonate with you - just keep trying.

I lost a ton of weight years ago doing strict low carb (under 20g carbs a day). I had almost no veggies. 77lbs in 5 and a half months. Thinnest I’d ever been, including college where I was a dance major and on weight probation :astonished:.

But I knew I didn’t want to low carb the rest of my life. I’m a foodie and love exploring new and different things to eat and when you exclude all rice and flour etc its like telling me I can make a painting but you’re only going to let me use half the color pallate.

At least with fasting I can use whatever color I want when I decide to paint.

And you have to keep in mind you are working on changing years of bad programming. Heck, my parents are passed away but I still hear them in my head - sometimes good and sometimes not. Years and years of programming.

Just have to really listen to my body now and try to behave myself.

Just getting the first bulk off for me was so liberating! I feel so much better now and can only imagine how much better I’ll feel getting the rest off.
It’s a lot of mental work though some days.

Thank you Miramar ! I always love your responses and your ability to just keep going forward whether you’ve had a great eating/fasting week or felt like you might of over done it … your “can do, just keep going” is very inspiring and I think of you when I feel stuck. :slightly_smiling_face:. I love that you got the bulk of it off and the feeling you had … I’m looking forward to that so much … it’ll be easier to have that wave of euphoria of feeling much better in your own skin !! Thank you for being here and all your advise and honestly … we need ya sister !! Great job on your fasting ! :slight_smile::four_leaf_clover::clinking_glasses:

Hello all, so I hope this is ok as it’s a water fasting forum but I’ve made a decision :slight_smile:. After my 9 day water fast (and then another 5 days) I just havnt been able to get into the groove of it again :relieved: BUT I’ve been doing OMAD ever since (weeks now) and seem to have that down which is pretty major for me. My ultimate goal is of course to lose weight, feel good in my own skin and get some sanity around my eating issues.

I have a significant amount of weight to lose (I’m about 230) so I am publicly committing to doing a liquid fast for 30 days (at the minimum)… basically drink a keto shake or two at the time of my normal OMAD meal. That way I can get the bulk of my weight off and then transition into some water fasting. If I weighed less I might keep plugging away at water fasting but I feel discouraged with how far I have to go. :relieved:.

The liquid fast will keep me from flour/sugar and wheat too which I just can’t seem to eat enough once I start so some of my OMAD meals could feed a family of 5 :laughing: (ok sad really but that’s my truth). I need a major lifestyle change and thinking OMAD to a long liquid fast to some water fasting with OMAD (low carb) sounds like an easier plan for me (something I’ll actually stick too). :slightly_smiling_face:. Ive been fairly thin most of my life but bulked up a lot after divorce and some medication I was taking and just plain crappy eating and I know I can get healthy again if I just keep moving forward. I started at 5pm Oct. 3rd. On my way!! I’m rooting for all of us !! :two_hearts::pray::four_leaf_clover:

Hi, Stacia, I just got finished reading your journal. I could really relate to your feelings. You know, I found out that 5:2 fasting (fast Mon.-Fri, eat OMAD on Sat. and Sun) did nothing for me. The first 5 days of any fast suck, in my book, and then to start all over again, was a nightmare for me. I did 2 rounds of that in Sept. and well, then I got Shingles and had to take meds, which was a bummer, because I was going to go back to OMAD until my long, extended fast was due to begin on Oct. 1st. Well, anyway, we learn what works best for us, through trial and error. Yasemin says it is about progress, not perfection. Having my goal of increased health, vitality, and of course being a normal weight (for about 3 years I have been a fat yoga teacher, LOL). In the lock-down, I gained from March 17-June 15 TEN kilos, which is 22 lbs. I could not do many yoga asanas, that were normally easy-peasy for me. I had to do something! But it took an acute knee injury and the horror of a possible surgery that finally helped me to decide to change. It took me 3 years to get effed up, weight-wise, and so if I complete this journey in only in 6 months, well I consider that a miracle, and magical! And I will succeed, as you will, too. This is YOUR journey towards self-love. And it is your fast. And if a OMAD for 30 days, with a keto shake as a meal replacement work for you, go for it. I would also like to commend you for your authenticity and being very real, about your journey. None of us are perfect, and to read about someone, who shares their struggles, and is honest about it, is helpful and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your journey.

Hey Stacia! Thinking of you! hows your OMAD going?

:slight_smile:. I’ve not used the GIFs yet but if I started I would be the same way, they always make me smile !! Thank you! Glad you went to the doctor and will be on the mend soon!! :four_leaf_clover:. So I just ordered those Thyroid pills of the link you sent me!! Thank you! … I researched and emailed the company and their reviews are great!! Thank you for that Kyle, this may be life changing! I have numerous family members on meds for thyroid and once I heard the natural ones changed their ingredients I just never pursued it but these may be just whats needed. I have every single symptom of low thyroid and have for years. OMAD is going well … still eating in my one hour :cry: instead of the keto shakes. I realized it’s not the plan I come up with, all of them will work, it’s the STOP turning to food for the emotional comfort. What else is so immediate? I need to learn to comfort myself because food is not in any way shape or form healthy the way I use it. I’m moving forward though !! I’m reading people journals for inspiration although there are so many it’s hard to keep up :slight_smile:. Love ya girl, keep going forward and feel better !!! Thank you ! :two_hearts::clinking_glasses::bouquet:

Thank you Schmidt for your nice post! I have enjoyed reading yours too !! You’ve taught me some stuff and you make me laugh (fat yoga instructor :laughing:)… what a journey we are all on ! You can’t predict crap like shingles and divorce and things we call “life” but it’s what we do about it that counts right?? :slight_smile: I’m moving forward too and I know we will reach our goals because we’ve made them important enough to be journaling publicly and working through our stuff !! Keep going sister ! I’m rooting for you :slightly_smiling_face::bouquet::clinking_glasses:!!!

Glad we connect on GIFs too!

Please let me know how the thyroid supplements work out? I’m taking a natural version desiccated from Pig Thyroid… But I’m curious to see how Beef does. I hope it help you out as my medication has helped me.

Food/Eating is such a conundrum! If only we could 100% give it up like people do with cigarettes or alcohol. The “needing food to survive” is what really brings about the major challenges. I know you will figure out what works best for you. Even if you only lose a lb a week, that’s still 52 lbs in a year. Oct 2019 seems like YESTERDAY to me… a year can go by fast.

Miss seeing your updates, so thank you for stopping in! Love you back. You are a joy to converse and commiserate with! :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

:heart::heart::heart::slight_smile: back at ya !!

Actually, the journey is about self-love, isn’t it? Hey, I think most everyone would freaked if you told them to try eating OMAD as a theraputic tool. I told a dear friend today, who has arthritic fingers, to try OMAD, because a lot of healing goes on between 12-16 hours, like magic. This woman actually almost had a panic attack, at the suggestion. YOU are healing and you are choosing the path that suites you the most, right now. And anytime you want, you can change the type of fast up. You can go 48 hours every now and then, and an ADF kind of routine. And remember, any kind of fasting, adds up to healing, on all levels. Much love to you!
