Maga’s fasting journey

Update - screwed up a bit more with more of the nuts. Can’t go on this way. Need a proper plan and need to stick to it and have some rules to prevent binging…

Nuts are ok, just really chew them up and yeah, try not to overdo.

Refeed Day 4

  • Did not have anything until about 330 pm.
  • Spent 2 hours or so making a soup from scratch. Cutting veggies, steaming a few veggies, boiling lemongrass takes time and energy. I totally appreciated the efforts behind the food today and used around 200 vessels (just kidding… but a lot of vessels were used). I was going for something natural amd would only season with salt… but the chillies I used were too spicy and then I used sugar and then soya sauce and vinegar to make it taste proper.
  • Had 2 servings of that and my stomach felt like a costco as I had not yet had a BM. So I heated the soup up again and had a little and then went to the restroom… I felt great. I think I will need to go again in a while.
  • Cheated with some nuts again.
  • Today was much better as I allowed myself one food and almost stuck to it.
  • Theres a lot of temptation… The faster state is easier than the refeed. Much easier. I have animal like impulses to pounce on food.

Can totally relate to the animal impulses! Reigning that in is such a challenge.
Glad your digestion is headed in the right direction again. It such a nice feeling when the gut is working properly. Thanks for keeping us posted, Maga.

Refeed Day 5

  • Let’s start with the good news… Rash and itchiness has gone down by 60 percent… cant explain to you how great this is.
  • Woke up early with some very urgent bowel movements after which I felt empty and light and clean…
  • Kind of botched up today. There was a dish cooked that I really like and I just dug in… Its not too unhealthy but is eaten with curd which I was trying to avoid for some time.
  • Have noticed that when I am hungry I reach for food. I dont give water or any liquid a chance. Good I realized it today.
  • Have decided to fast every Saturday and Wednesday starting next week. A 5-2 would suit my lifestyle. Normal days would have a window from 4 to 8pm or sometimes to 10 pm. I need to limit the timeframes since my brain is incapable of shoving my throat with more food without these time limits.
  • When I feel hungry I will first drink water… then drink more water/tea/coffee/lime ginger hot tea… then cheat with any raw fruit or vegetables… then breathe and reevaluate… then if I still want to cheat so be it… Let’s see how effective these rules are in the future.

The refeed ended this morning. Like everything else going on my, fast and refeed got screwed up.

My kids felt sick with a stomach bug 12 days back and durning that week my wife became I’ll too. All had recovered before I broke the fast. At that time I was still fasting and thought that it may have protected me somehow… well fast forward to this morning I have just been having the worst burping/ belching/ diarrhea such that I have been on the bed or in the restroom throughout the day… I drink water and go… WTF… I am totally pissed since a large part of the fasting benefits may be lost and 2nd I am in no shape to go to the doc as I NEED to stay next to the restroom and 3rd every doc will think I am an idiot for fasting and 4th I don’t have my vape clutch to depend on so my emotions are out of control and lastly I dont know what to eat or just to fast for a bit…

Anyway rant over.

Tummy flu is horrible! Keep up electrolytes! Don’t worry about the fasting benefits, and I doubt they are lost anyway! Just work on getting better! You can do a virtual visit with a dr. Unless it is necessary they don’t need to know you were fasting. Getting sick makes me moody too. Keep reminding yourself that this is temporary! If you do choose to eat food, eat easy to digest things. Good luck and keep us posted!

I just had pomegranate juice and threw up… feeling much better now.

Any suggestions on what to eat? Soups with steamed vegetables okay?

I am having electrolytes but not much else.

I’d stick with clear soups/broths… try some veggies, give it an hour and see how it makes you feel?

Everyone else had recovered a week back. Not sure how I got the same thing so late.

Anyway the sight and thought of food is repulsive. Will try a clear soup or green tea with honey.

Had tomato soup with tiny veggie pieces all fresh… It tasted amazing and went down easy… but it came out easy too… Anyway… tomorrow afternoon I will have some khichidi which is overboiled rice and a specific lentil. This worked for everyone else in the family so I will try it too… know it does not fit into a refeed plan but I need to get better soon.

On the brighter side I did some meditation and fell asleep somewhere towards the end… had some weird thoughts to lean from your experiences and treat your food as medicine and body as a temple… these were things drilled into me in my childhood yoga classes… Anyway I feel like this is a blessing as the last thing on my mind will be to binge for a long long time… maybe 3 weeks…

Thank you all for your support… I apologize for venting and taking it out here… I am never like this usually… but this fast and withdrawal from vape are just revealing a new identity…

No apologies! If you can’t vent here in a support forum, where can you vent? I do hope you feel better tomorrow. I know it must be very rough to begin a refeed after a very long fast and get sidelined with an illness.

Hi all,

Feeling much better this morning. Had some medicine last night which must have helped. I did not feel like eating at all after yesterday… but was feeling exhausted by noon… so had an avacado with lime and salt and it was pure goodness. After that I had my tomato soup with veggies with some flatbread. Had some apple pieces thereafter and have not ran to the restroom. Hope everything is normal now.

The body is so strange… daybefore I felt like I could eat anything. Yesterday I said never again will I overeat. Today I want to eat small bits of everything…

Hey all,

My tummy is upset again… and so I still have the bug. I have been a bit reluctant to go to the doctor but will do if it does not get better. For now I will just eat in smaller quantities and not be fixated on what should or should not be eaten.

I had my avacado’s with a slice of toast with butter. Toast was amazing after a month and my tummy felt settled too.

More later… taking a long nap now…

… so the nap did not happen due to a lot interruptions… and then my kids had me play with the doll house… but i did notice something very different today…

Besides being sick and bothered with the refeed and the mild but annoying stomach pain… I felt calm like I usually am… and dealt with it… however today I did not even think about vaping for a single second which is usually what it takes for me to be calm… I had become quite aggitated at little things after quitting and thank goodness that behavior was just temporary… Just thought I’d share in case anyone else is battling similar addictions.

Sorry you are still having stomach issues but great news about vaping-cravings subsiding.

So to summarize the fast - what I achieved was the ability to kick off the vaping habit, being congestion free felt amazing whilst fasting and I lost almost 14 Kgs on the fast. I believe my lowest weight was 79.5 kgs after the fast.

The refeed was a complete disaster because of me getting a stomach flu and then my weight fluctuated from 82 kgs to 80 kgs daily because of vomiting or bms. Since the past couple of days I have been feeling better and have been eating fairly healthy until yesterday. I had been non stop binging on all different foods even when I was not hungry. My weight today went up 4 kgs in a single day almost to 85 kgs. So I need another plan and proper restrictions. I have come too far to screw up things like I did yesterday. And I have to admit that I have no power or control over the temptation of food like some people have. I am addicted to stuffing things in my mouth except for when I fast. I will attempt to do a 20 hour fast tomorrow and then I may refeed with an omad or stretch it upto 40 hours to give my body a break from today’s abuse… Some fasting would get me in the right space to plan out the next 30 days. Do not want to plan more. Just the next 30 days. Here are the major outlines.

  • 5/2 plan… need to thing about the 2 fasting days.
  • On refeed days follow the 20/4. One fruit and one serving of veggies per eating day and then whatever else you want depending on space and time remaining for the refeed.
  • For the next 30 days avoid dairy, gluten and other irritants. Introduce them slowly.
  • Prepare a list of cheats in advance if you need to cheat.

Will need to sleep over it.

I hope this fast works. I am almost 10 hours into it. May have some black coffee layer if I am hungry - first cup in over a month - wont lie… I am pretty excited about it :smile:

PS The refeed was messed not only because of the stomach flu… but now I cant resist temptation or stick to eating healthy without a plan… also every food tempts me.

So not much more to report on the awesome refeed slip Chronicles. I did a 20 it fast to the point and instead of the omad I just ate regularly for the evening… Today I started at 2 pm and went on until 10 pm…

But I am super happy today. I went to the park and played football with 5 kids and raced too… no knee pain and no foot pain at all… that was impossible since around 8 years when I injured myself on a track and had to keep moving which made my knees real bad… It is 100% obvious that this is due to the fast. Not sure if it’s the weight drop or knees being fixed but it was awesome… I lived with this so long that it did not occur to me that I should have wanted this out of the fast… Truly thankful…

I will make it a point to talk about the refeed on a weekly basis… no point in saying the same things daily… today I was just excited so posted… over excited in fact… I just downloaded the c25k app… maybe I will take my time and do it in 12 to 15 weeks… let’s see… anything’s possible! Getting rid of aches in your knees after running is the best… I am just hoping its permenant :smile: :running_man: :walking_man:t3:
