I’m really surprised I’ve only gained two lbs of water weight (and lots of fiber) this pms. Last cycle it was almost 7.

I have experienced extreme narcolepsy in my past and my sleep has been pretty messed up the last couple of years but last night was the first time in a long time that I slept walked and ate. My husband found me shuffling around the kitchen eating some cheese and chocolate (funny pms). Hence the .8mmol this morning. I usually am a big sleep talker and sometimes people don’t even know I’m “asleep”. I’ve done some insanely scary stuff while asleep but most of it was when I was a teenager and in my early twenties. So it’s back on the armodafinil (a legal but potent amphetamine) for awhile. Checked Amazon and the credit card and luckily didn’t spend any money. Seeing my neuro in a couple of weeks

Swam but didn’t have much energy.

This is my current anthem: (the worst case scenario lullaby)

Terrible with the dog-situation I am so sorry! :frowning:
I hope you will get through this stronger than ever

My grandma had narcolepsy.

I used to sit and sew with her and she’d fall asleep in the middle of a stitch. And I’d have a project finished when she woke back up.

Was super excited that I was able to do a longer fast yesterday and only eat a veggie/tofu stuffed green curry and some brie. But I was only able to sleep two hours. I wasn’t hungry but I knew I had to have more food if I was going to sleep. Had to take a ton more sleepy pills to fall back asleep.

Not sure I’ll be able to swim today. The pool doesn’t open until mid afternoon and I’m pretty low energy. Unfortunately the pool is no longer open on Sunday’s. Suppose to start my period tomorrow.

Really using mindful eating to transform my eating habits. When I eat. I only eat. No media or anything else. Put silverware down between each bite. chew each small bite 20 some times. Look at the meal before each bite and enjoy it’s colors and find gratitude for all the hard work that went into bringing me this meal. Smell the food. Listen to the food. Touch the food that can be eaten with my hands. And have fun with my food.

Hey! I found out from dietdr.com why I always leave Ketosis on my period

Is it harder to be in ketosis during menstruation?

Dear Dr. Fox,

Is it my imagination, or is it very challenging (if not impossible) to stay in ketosis while menstruating? Although I eat approximately the same, I go from being in deep ketosis, to not at all, or producing very low ketones.

Thank you,
Pamela

Dr. Fox:

Great question.

The luteal phase of the cycle is characterized by high progesterone levels. Progesterone is a great hormone for pregnancy establishment, but not so great for metabolism. It makes you more insulin resistant, therefore less metabolically stable. This process along with the lowest estrogen levels seen in the entire menstrual cycle on cycle days -3 to +3 will push you the farthest from your goal.

Just stay the course and don’t worry about the ketosis piece. The nutritional approach is the only thing you can do. I would suggest once you document and understand your ketosis to stop monitoring because it simply adds stress that also works against you. Best of luck.

Wasn’t able to swim yesterday. Too tired. Wish they still had Sunday hours. Started my period today. Not going to bother getting on the scale. Did my best to not snack yesterday. Ate 3 solid meals. needed something sweet so I had a vanilla marscapone mousse sweetened with a bit of stevia. Was able to sleep.

Fall finally seems to be upon us. We pick up Data the 23rd of October. It’s finally soup season! This week I’ll be making creamy mushroom cashew soup. soaked cashews blended into cream with roasted shitake and portabella, mushroom broth, cream, blended smooth with cauliflower, garlic, leeks, evoo, truffle oil, thyme, white pepper and salt . Topped with crispy roasted mushrooms and toasted cashews. Might add a bit of parm for saltiness.

Your soup and your marscapone mousse sound amazing!

You got me thing about soups. Will definately try this recipe without the roasted cashews and roasted mushrooms… just the creamy garlic cashew soup sounds awesome!

If you want it over the top use a variety of garlics! Get some roasted black garlic in there, shallots instead of onions, and garlic oil

I had my first migraine yesterday in about 12 weeks. I get botox shots for it (which is a miracle! NO PILLS!) ended up needing to take a ton of pain meds and my anti-nausea meds. Migraines= throwing up so no food in the late afternoon. I just ate a slice of tofu to keep all the meds from sloshing around. I get my next round of botox in 3 weeks. Hopefully I won’t have too many migraines between now and then.

Ate a lot of wholesome foods before the migraine, though. Swimming today (thank the gods). Hope to fast until after swimming. It’s easier to fast for me when I’m busy. Will go grocery shopping and make all the foods for this week. I’m craving kale chips so I might also make a ton of them. It takes an insane amount of curly kale to make even a small portion.

I am extremely lucky that I don’t seem to experience the same food cravings most do when cooking for their families. After working with food all day, every day, you kinda get use to the fact that the food isn’t “yours.” It’s like this switch. You also get desensitized to amazing aromas. The smell of fresh cookies, cakes, and loaves of bread are all associated with hard work, long hours, stress, and sometimes horrible co-workers. I did meet a challenge when I owned my own patisserie, however. It was sometimes difficult to throw out expensive and delicious completely from scratch pastries. Spoilage was heart breaking. So I did eat a lot of day old products. However, I never took breaks or ate during a shift (except to taste test) so a croissant or piece of focaccia after a 12-16 hour shift wasn’t a big deal.

Got a photo of Data yesterday. We are desperate to get him!

Awww! Look at Data! my heart!

Fascinating about your cravings. I can’t imagine not feeling temptation around baked goods. What a lovely thing! Ending my obsession with sweets is a big goal I am working on.

Hope you are doing well, Kristy! Have a good Monday.

Kicking sweets is much easier when you know it’s history, place in culture/society, who made/grew it, their inputs and what corporations usually unwholesome intentions are.

Sugar use to be called “white gold.” King George iii passed “The Sugar Act” in the 1770’s which helped lead the the American Revolution.

Also when I see sugar now I think how the whole industry was born from slave labor. Sugar may only cost $2 for 3 lbs but the amount of subsidies the industry receives from tax payer dollars is abhorrent. So when I want to grab a soda pop I think,

"The HFCS in this was grown from corporate GMO corn in fields that could be used to grow actually food for people. Because these fields are used for sugar and additives (all things we do not need in our diets) people all around the world live in food desserts. We are fat yet malnourished. This can of soda/box of cereal/muffin perpetuates a systemic problem that health orginizations now predict that our children will have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. If I purchase this I’m voting for a system that has no regard for human life."

Wow this quote is powerful. Especially the fact that we are fat and malnourished. I will keep this in mind to control my pepsi addiction. Great post!

LOL, I’m not that hard core.

What does work for me are the lectures by Robert Lustig.

Dang spell check wants to change his name…

https://www.livescience.com/4949-sugar-changed-world.html

Robert listings is amazing! However, the undeniably horrific past of sugar makes all 16 teaspoons of sugar in a bottle of Coke-a-cola makes me wonder how many of the 10 million slaves (average life expectancy of 7 years on a sugar plantation) brought exclusively to work on cane plantations died to create the world’s “sweet tooth.”

Please understand that this is coming from a Pastry Chef. Up until my retirement this year sugar was my livelihood. I can’t shake the devil’s hand then say I’m only kidding.

Please understand that this is not a judgement of others. I just have to know, empathize, be an ally, and bear wittness

Your perspectives are valid of course.

I can’t fix history that far back.

Sugar itself is not evil. For me the issue is what some men/people have done with sugar, bad science on part of our food pyramid, and bad programming, somewhat the governments fault. People badly programmed in their upbringing - such as slave owners who thought it was ok.

We are just beginning to expose and tap into what was bad science behind what helps keep weight in check.

Sugar is a natural thing on the earth. Like a lot of things - moderation is key.

I’m more about sharing education about it.
