Anna’s Journal 🖤 Post 30 day water fast & refeed

Refeed- day 4

I felt pretty bloated yesterday evening and couldn’t really sleep much during the night at all! Maybe it was a bit too much fibre for the stomach to deal with that early! I’m feeling better today though, although I’m tired from the lack of sleep. I just had an early breakfast this morning, with some easy digestible fruits and veggies, with a higher water content than the ones I tried yesterday! Been fasting for the rest of the day, which has been going well so far!

It will take a bit for your sleep pattern to settle down. For me it wasn’t until the evening of Day 4 of my ReFeed, that I think my body full transitioned back to glucose from adipose burning.

Btw, finished my analysis of all the members who participated in the Oct/Nov Fasting Challenge. You are the only college student that reached his/her fasting goal. The rest all succumbed to the stress of mid-terms, finals and in some cases added loneliness from studying in a foreign country.

Interesting! Although I did have the luxury of being able to study from home most of the time. I’m not sure I would have finished my goal if I wasn’t able to have that opportunity!

Did it take you long to collect all the data and structure it?

About 2 weeks. The hardest part was finding a way to identify members who kept multiple journals so I didn’t over count them. Then I found that all the journals a member created was tracked in their member profile. The other challenge was creating accurate descriptive categories to put each member into.

The goal is to increase the chance of success for a person reaching their fasting goal by providing a roadmap of possible road hazards they may encounter on their journey.

Refeed- day 5

I had a longer feeding window than yesterday, but I’ve been trying some steamed vegetables with more fibre and starch content and I have been feeling well all day. I took a walk in the sun and prepared some things for a little celebration with friends for the evening! We have just been having a little drinks night (no drinks for me though) and gonna go to the castle to see some fireworks in a few hours!
I just remembered I haven’t posted today and I felt like I wanted to check in and write quickly!

I’m gonna do a short little water fast again, for the first days of the new decade! I have a few more kg I would like to lose, and I feel like this is a time where I still feel good and confident in myself and what I can achieve!
I’m aiming for a 6 day water fast this time!

My goal for the year isn’t to lose weight, I just don’t really feel 100 % confident in where I am right now and getting a little head start in the new decade won’t hurt! I want to maintain a healthy lifestyle, improving my relationship with food with each meal and start to exercise again! It’s been almost 9 months since I last lifted weights or did any running, and I miss it more and more, especially after the 30 day fast!

I hope everyone will have a happy new year, and take care of the ones you love!

How are your energy levels?

Hanging out in Yas’ FB group, someone commented that Dr. Jason Fung proposes that your ReFeed window should be half the length of your fast. I checked on the length of the one I just completed and “lo and behold” it was for 21 days.

As you know I didn’t predetermine the end of my ReFeed and based it entirely on when my energy levels where back to the same level I had during the fast.

My concern is you’re not giving your body enough of a break before jumping back into the stress of fasting, even though it is a short one. It’s the reason for my current phase of building up my body a bit before I jump back into fasting.

Right before I did the 40-day, I went through 4 straight days of failing to get beyond Day 1. After the 4th failure in a row, I realized it wasn’t a matter of “willpower”, it was my body signaling it needed a break as I had been religiously adhering to my treatment protocol for 2 1/2 months. I did a 9-day ReFeed and that “break” allowed me to complete the 40-day.

Hi!
I’m doing well so far!

Yeah I have been thinking about that back and forth as well, most doctors follow the same approach with the refeeding length, and I had planned on doing a longer refeed as well, with at least 10 days of introducing it slowly, and increase the amount of food, fibre content and starch by time up to about 15 days.
I’m not gonna take any risks at all, and listen to my body if I feel very weak, one day at a time! Thank you for your concern!

Btw, when are you planning on introducing protein into your ReFeed? It would be a waste to let all those newly generated stem cells in your liver go to waste when they could be creating new cells throughout your major organs.

During the whole refeeding process pretty much, since there’s all the essential amino acids in plants as long as the calories are adequate, I’ve had more leafy greens now in the beginning such as spinach, alfalfa sprouts, watercress and so on, fresh and steamed. And of course grains and legumes and other foods by time, but I’m taking it slower with those because of the high fibre and starch content in them!

I’ve followed the directions that they use on True north health center, with their food recommendations!

The refeed part should be lovely :yum:
I can’t wait to put my hands on a watermelon

Day 2 for me on a shorter fast!

Like written in a post above by @Compdude I wouldn’t recommend having such a short refeed for others, since doctors usually ordinates a refeed half the length as the fast!
And like @Yasemin and other fasting promoters always has to announce, it’s our own responsibility to check in with our doctor to make sure we’re safe!

However, I’m still feeling good and have been getting more regular sleep these last few days, so I’m taking it day by day!
I’m going to take a walk to the health center to see my doctor later in the day (first off it was mainly a follow up from the small tumour removal) but I’ll make sure to get overall consultations as well related to the fast!

Hope everyone is having a good start of the new decade :clinking_glasses::sparkles:

Day 3 of fasting has been going well, I haven’t really experienced any difficulties getting back into fasting (probably because I haven’t had a long refeed in between). My energy levels are still pretty good and I don’t have any symptoms so far! :ok_hand:
The doctors appointment went well yesterday! This day has mostly consisted of a short walk and studying, so nothing too stressful to my body! :page_facing_up:

The main difference from these three days and all the other fasts has been that I’m not really interested in food at all, the thought of food is not really crossing my mind!
I’m thinking that it might be because I didn’t have much dopamine stimulating foods during the refeed, and also that the body adjusted much more quickly to being without food when it wasn’t long since it was burning fully ketones!

Interesting so no “transition” symptoms this time around? How long was your ReFeed again?

No, a slight feeling of emptiness in the stomach the first day, nothing other than that. It was for 5 days!

Day 4 has been going well, not much different from yesterday! I’ve gotten around 5 hours of sleep each night on average during this fast, which is more than usual!

It’s fun to see so many people here now, I hope people keep posting and reading in the forum, it can be a great tool for support and success!
@Compdude is doing a great job at analysing earlier results and outcomes to see contributing factors and helping new people! :facepunch:

Day 5 water fasting, and I’m feeling great! I’ve had tons of energy today, which I took advantage of by cleaning and packing!
I slept good during the night, although my day is still a bit shifted from the 30 day fast, with me falling asleep around 3 am and waking up around 9 am!
Not a fan of it, since early mornings are my favourite time of the day, and I’ve always been a morning person! I hate being up late haha!
Anyway, I’m sure it will adjust back by time!

Hope it’s going well for everyone! :droplet::droplet:

Only 1 more day until you hit your milestone of 6! Sounds really good that you’re going to make it.
