I’ll make sure to be safe!
And thank you haha, you cheering me on and your support has meant a lot throughout the fast!
Anna’s Journal 🖤 Post 30 day water fast & refeed
@Compdude I am not taking anything but water after I drank mate and felt nervous.
So no vitamins, no salt, no magnesium by the moment, until I start feeling like I need something else.
@Anna Thank you for that info. I believe that as I progress in my fasting I will need supplements. But by the moment I’m feeling fine.
Day 30
The last day!
One of the scariest days as well!
I woke up feeling alright, since I had gotten a few hours of rest, but once I stood up I felt instant nausea and threw up several times, until I was so weak that I fainted on the floor. I was alone at the time so I was very scared when I couldn’t reach my phone, or even the sink to get some water.
But after a while I was able to call my roommate and host, and he was very helpful, staying with me even though he had a lot of work to do, and he was in contact with an ambulance as well to get directions on what to do. He’s studying to become nurse himself so I felt very safe in his company. I got some fluid replacement, since I couldn’t keep the water down either.
So the small amount of sweetener in it might have broken the fast, but I won’t have food until tomorrow. I’m just gonna focus on getting enough water in today!
I’m feeling a bit better at the moment, just laying down resting.
I’m really grateful for the help I got!
Glad you’re student nurse was there to assist you. I completely understand how the last day is the scariest as mine wasn’t a bed of roses either.
But you DID IT CONGRATULATIONS! I’m sure @Cream35 @Miko @Yasemin feel this way (see vid below) as I do for you!
Haha a video well worth waiting for!
Thank you for all the support!
OMG !!! Congratulations!! This are amazing news that you could complete your fast and that you are fine despite that episode. Glad that you had someone to assist you.
Please keep us posted on your health status, and your re-feed process afterwards
An finally, thank you for sharing your experience!
Thaank you!
I’ll keep posting about the refeeding process!
How are you feeling now?
I’m doing alright, can’t really sleep (it’s 2.17 am here) but compared to yesterday morning I’m a lot better! I’m excited to break the fast
Oh yeah. The minute my iPhone alarm went off signaling the official ending of my fast I was immediately cooking up my 2 cans of Healthy Choice Vegetable & Beef soup. Poof Presto and Gone! LOL
Refeed- day 1
I’m Feeling Amazing
Best day in a long time haha!
I started the morning with some vegetable juice (instead of broth, which I had planned to make), and tried to drink it slowly, mixing it with water! I didn’t feel any type of discomfort at all so a few hours later I had some more, and I felt so energetic and full of life!
I just got too curious to wait with solid foods, so I tried some slices of cucumber after that! I still want the water content to be very high in the foods during the refeed, and introduce fibre slowly.
I had no idea cucumber could taste this good, it’s perfectly sweet and fresh!
I let my body rest from food for a few hours and had some more cucumber and a little bit of watermelon a while ago!
I have no interest at all to cram in foods, instead I feel very in tune with my body and it’s signals when to stop and wait for a while.
I’m feeling fantastic so far!
Glad to hear you are transitioning well. Look forward to hearing how your body responds tomorrow as that’s when my energy transition happened.
Refeed- day 2
I’m still having difficulties falling asleep, but at least I got 3-4 hours of rest during the early morning which was nice!
I had some herbal tea and pieces of cucumber, water melon, cherry tomatoes and a little bit of grapefruit around 9 am this morning! I’m still amazed by how good simple food tastes when I’ve reset my taste buds!
I’ve been having a lot of energy during the day, and spent a few hours walking around town, did a little bit of grocery shopping and looked for presents to my friends newborn baby!
I had my next meal around 3 pm, with some leafy greens, non starchy vegetables and some mango. I feel like my body has reacted much better to reintroducing food than I expected it to! I thought it was gonna take a few days until I felt ready to have solid foods, but I feel great so far. (I had a little bowel movement a few hours later too).
Mentally, I feel very good, almost euphoric, compared to how I’ve been feeling for so many months this year!
I finally feel like I don’t want to hide anymore in misery. That’s the best thing I’ve gained from this fast, the feeling of being in control of my own happiness again.
Even if I’m not yet where I want to be, I’m happy to just be on the journey there, experiencing and learning new things along the way!
Hmmm. You seem to be reintegrating well. I wonder if I’m the exception being diabetic for so many years. Thanks for continuing to post!
It’s difficult to know all the factors that contributes to the different experiences, there’s probably loads! You fasted for 10 more days than me too, so the recovering process may differ because of that as well!
I’m lucky to have been medication free all my life, and physically healthy for most parts of it!
Well I AM old enough to be your “daddy” LOL!
Refeed- day 3
I slept for 9 hours, which is a lot for being me!
Had a again when I woke up heh!
I haven’t been as active today, mostly spent the day studying, but I hope I’ll be able to sleep well tonight too, with the lack of psychical activity. The key for me is usually to exhaust myself both mentally and physically to be able to get a good nights rest.
I had my meal in about a two hour window at 3-5 pm, which consisted of fresh fruits and vegetables.
I’m thinking about trying alternate day fasting or OMAD as more of a routine as a next challenge. Even if I spontaneously do it every now and then, I would like to see if I could benefit from it in a longer perspective
Yes, a good plan. Just listen to your body and experiment. After several days of transitioning I fell into a 20:4 with 2 meals. A small one followed by a main meal at least 2 hours later.
Even into this new phase it appears the one that works best, the daily 2 meal with IF ranging between 16:8 to 20:4.
Just happy you didn’t have to experience entering the 5-day Death Valley of energy I did after I completed my fast.
I’m glad you’ve found a way that works for you! I’m thinking about having my eating window a bit earlier too, like you have been doing!
I’ve mostly had my meals in the evening when doing just one meal a day, but I know that I find it a lot harder to stay disciplined and controlled in the evening!
I read a swedish article today about dopamine and that the release of dopamine is higher in the morning hours than in the evening (which was news to me), and I got curious if that had any correlation with my eating behaviours!
So I guess my goal for tomorrow will be to have a breakfast/early lunch and try to fast until the day after and repeat!
When you eat early you take advantage of your Circadian Rhythm which is that you are the most insulin sensitive as the body gears up for the increasing energy demands of the day. In other words, if you have a sweet tooth its better for you to have that donut in the morning when your body will use it up for energy than have the cheesecake at night when your body is shutting down its insulin production for sleep and those excess carbs get stored as fat.
