Unexpected Fasting Win!

So I’ve had anxiety since I was a teenager and I bite my nails because of it. But after the first 2 days of fasting (during which my anxiety spiked on the evening of day 2) the anxiety has basically completely gone away. And because of that, I haven’t felt the urge to bite my nails. So now, after 16 days, for the first time since I was a kid I can actually see the white growth of my fingernails!! This is a win I did not expect! It’s so nice to see my fingers not looking semi-mutilated. I think I’ll have to actually cut my nails soon!

Super cool! I’m having a hard time with fasting, getting past 24 hours but I really want to experience the benefits you all talk about after fasting day 4 or 5. Hoping before the end of the year to do so. Am fat adapted, have been LCHF a couple years, have lost 60 lbs. in that time.

The first 48 hours are the hardest! For me, my mental health issues peaked on the evening of day 2 - I almost thought I was losing my mind … But after that, the peace has been incredible. I think fasting is actually miraculous for healing… Mental as well as physical health. It absolutely gets easier, not harder, the longer you go. You can do it! Congrats on losing 60lbs already, that is so awesome!!

Thank you for the encouraging words. I know I need to “dig deep” and the struggle is mostly
mental. I am determined to accomplish this. I am about 4 lbs from being in “wonderland”, my birthday is in a little over a month away and I really, really want to break the 200 lb mark by then. I don’t even remember when I was under 200 lbs last, more than 15 years ago. What a wonderful birthday present to myself that WILL be!

I’ve not done extended fasts, but I’ve been doing 36 hour fasts one a week since November. My first fast was 24 hours, no problem. The next week I shot for 36 hours but bailed after 20, ha ha. My 36 hour fasts have been getting easier and easier - got to over 40 hours this week. I really can’t do more than 48 because eating is part of my job. I do think that one needs to get used to fasting though, so maybe just doing a short fast once a week will help.

Yes, I did the same strengthening the fasting muscle. For 2 weeks I did IF (16:8, 18:6, 20:4) then OMAD. Then Prolonged Fasts of 4, 5, 7 and went for it at 40.
