Swetha daily journal - water fasting challenge round 7

I’m here, after multiple failures every single day from past 3 months and inturn putting on 10 pounds.
So I have made my mind and joined yasemins challenge on June 18th 2020.
My last meal was 9pm 17th June 2020. Hope to make it and will make it! Just waiting to get into the group I’m in!

I just asked to join Yasemin’s fb accountability group. Is that where the challenge comes from? How long are you going to fast?
I am new here, and started my 21 day fast on the 15th, so my 3rd day is about done. I wish you success!
p.s. In the last 3 months my body weight went up and gained 5 kg. That freaked me out.

Yes, you can find the challenge on the FB group. Just message her. @Yasemin It’s so worth it. Today I finished the Challenge Team 7 (started early and today is Day 10. I found so much motivation there, Daily Zoom calls.) I am going to keep going till I can’t go anymore. I feel GREAT and so proud I made it. Just do it, it is worth it and you meet people from all over the world. So fun. And Swetha, don’t say you HOPE, say you WILL! Happy Fasting! You are water warriors! haha - Chris

The only concern I have are those daily zoom live sessions. I believe Yasemin is somewhere in Canada, right. And most of the participants are from North America. I live in Germany, and that is about 6 hours (+) difference. Either I will be working, or going to bed, when those zoom sessions happen. I will just have to continue without the challenge. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it. And yes, feel proud of yourself, fasting is not easy to do.

Same here. I have put on 5kgs too. I don’t wantmy weightloss journey to go reverse so I have taken a call to join the challenge. Zoom call is difficult for me too. But I donno how I can manage. Fasting I want to for 7 days initially. I have never done a fast more than 3 or 4 days and it was never a clean fast. Still I managed to lose good amount of weight untill I left the wagon and put on weight

I din’t have anything today since morning and finished an omad some time back. Which was my last meal for the day. My 7 day fast challenge started 20 mins back. And want to make 7 days. I have never experienced how it gets easier after day 4 or 5. And if it does I will prolong as long as I can.
My main goal is weightloss as well as heal my body from aches and pains.
I have severe pain in trapezius muscle which may come from work. This pain goes up to both my clavicles all day. I have severe metatarsalgia on left foot, coccyx pain and my left achillis tendon is aching a little since 2 days.
I also suffer from hydradenitis suppuritiva, it had significant improvement when I fasted. But had relapse since couple of months.
So why I’m doing this
1 weight loss
2 relief from pain
3 relief from hydradenitis

Hey, we met in the Zoom call. I just decided to join at the very last second!! It was great “meeting” you, and we will see each other again tomorrow. I can tell you, from my experience, those aches and pains do decrease the longer one fasts. Dr. Joel Fuhrman wrote a book about fasting. He was a champion world-class skater, who severely injured his ankle, and the docs wanted to operate on his joint, and said he would never skate again. Dr. Fuhrman fasted for over 40 days and his joint healed without an surgical intervention, and he went on to skate and compete again. I bet you will be positively surprised how, not only your aches and pains diminish, I would bet that your skin condition will improve for the positive, too. I think the trick is, is to make this fasting a regular part of our lives, what one could call a, “fasting-focused life-style”. When I drop these 60 lbs,/27kg., I want to keep fasting as a way of living, to continue the health benefits. I am 62 years old, and have no desire to go down a slippery slope of unhappy aging, with a degenerating state of health in body and mind. So! See you tomorrow. Sleep welll.

Yes. I started Aug 9, 2019. My criteria for lifestyle adoption will be 2 years in my ideal weight range.

You can see the “Fountain of Youth” effects in my progression pics.

Voice your concerns to Yasmine, maybe she can work around it or give you an alternate solution. She is pretty flexible because she actually cares. Happy Fasting …You can do this!

I was flabbergasted, as you suggested in your post that you would be or are starting your 60th year on earth. Your first pic looks like someone WELL into their 60’s, and from the lastest photo you posted, you barely look 50 yrs. old. AND no turkey neck, either! That is my little ego’s fear; that all my skin on my face and neck will sag, after I drop the extra weight. I AM over 60 yrs. so, I thought it might happen. YOU, my new friend, have given me hope. THANK you!

You’re welcome. My last 6-month campaign was the “6-pack at 60” whose goal was to achieve the same physical shape as my 18 yo self. I posted the comparison pics in the FB group to take an informal poll. I got 22 “Yays” and 0 “Nays” with 52 likes. I’d say the consensus was I got there.

My next 6-month project is the “Cannibalize Loose Skin Campaign”. That begins with the 30-day workout phase after I finish the refeed and then back on with another 21-day fast.

Thank you for sharing your photos here. I have read on other fasting sites, that fasting without anything…wet (I know we are not to discuss that subject here, so I won’t write any more) does help with tightening skin. But, I just can not bring myself to try that, it intuitively feels, somehow, not good for my body. Can you explain by “Cannibalize Loose Skin Campaign” what kind of workout you will be doing, that entails 30 days. I am sure, I will need help to get rid of a lot of loose skin. Thanks again.

As to the “whose name will NOT be uttered” fast, I’m in agreement with Yasemine because there is no scientific evidence of any additional benefit that you could not get through water fasting. So the additional risk does NOT justify the same reward.

Also I spent 3 years in the entertainment industry both in corporate and in creative sides of the house. That type of fasting has been used for years to get talent camera-ready and has been largely abandoned. However, for a quick-and-dirty trick it is still used. The actor Henry Cavill admitted he did a 3-day one before shooting a hot spring/bath scene for the Netflix series, the Witcher, that he did it to get really “cut” for the camera. But that’s the only valid reason it’s still used. Cavill said after the shoot was over he immediately ended the fast.

After the “6-pack at 60” I did have loose skin, so typical me I did research to find out the best approach. You can achieve that with prolonged fasting because loose skin is primarily protein based cells that will be consumed when you drop to a certain body fat percentage. Dr Jason Fung says all you need is look at old black and white pictures of Holocaust survivors and American soldiers who were WWII Japanese POWs. None of them have loose skin as evidence.

Don’t think I have to go to those extremes though. At least I hope not. From looking at professional bodybuilders interviews getting ready for competition it appears your body starts consuming loose skin at 9% for men and 15% for women.

This could be my final campaign to get to the point I can transition into “maintenance” mode. There are other health markers I need to hit; but, I believe if I can’t hit those with this campaign then fasting is not the appropriate vehicle to address those.

Hope this answers your questions!

I’ll be using the same standard cycle I used for the last campaign: 30-day workout/21-day fast/10-day refeed/recovery/rebuild. As for the details, I’ll play it by ear. I think outside of the US no one else is out there on the bleeding edge of this stuff as I am.

But, this is familiar territory for me. When I was a junior in high school growing up in Pasadena I played on the 1st computer network Star Trek game on Cal Tech’s 1st IBM computer in 1975. I was with a tech startup in Beverly Hills that tried to establish a predecessor of the now famous RedBox video rental machines you see in the grocery stores back in 1986. Finally, I led the team that developed a mobile bar code reader app for a predecessor of the iPad back in 1993.
