How often do you fast in a year? After your 40 day fast, how soon would you embark on another fast? Are there safety precautions to take into account with the frequency and length of the fasts? Is it better to do one 40 day fast once a year? Or 10 four day fasts once a month or so forth? I’m curious about this topic if you know about the long terms effects on our bodies.

Q. How often do you fast in a year?
A. I only began water fasting on 9/9 this year, one month into my customized treatment protocol. So I haven’t fasted long enough to answer your 1st question.
Q. After your 40 day fast, how soon would you embark on another fast?
A. My ReFeed & Rebuild Major Organs phase took 21 days. Followed by my current Restore Core Strength & Rebuild Muscles phase which I’m wrapping up Day 7 and I’m expected to last 30 days. After that I plan on doing a minimum 7-Day as at the end I’ll evaluate whether to continue for another 7-days with a maximum 28 days.
Q. Are there safety precautions to take into account with the frequency and length of the fasts?
A. Yes. From Sept 9 to Oct 17, I did a 2-day, a 7 day, a 5-day, a 2-day, a 5-day a 2-day, a 2-day, a 5-day then starting Oct 19th I had a series of Day 1 failures and realized it was my body crying for a break. I then did a 9-day ReFeed, consulted my Endocrinologist at USC for the Green Light and embarked on the 40-day.
Now with that background information given, to answer your question I kept a Lindt 90% Dark Chocolate bar handy, also I always had a family member on hand if I needed anything and I consulted with the Endocrinologist once a week.
Q. Is it better to do one 40 day fast once a year?
A. If its for “maintenance”, NO. Two of the research scientists I follow Dr. Peter Attia & Dr. Saatchin Panda of the Salk Institute in San Diego both do 5-day water fasts for maintenance. Dr. Attia once a quarter and Dr. Panda once a year.
Personally, I will do a 7-day water fast annually. Depending on how “good” I’ve been for the year. LOL
I only did the 40 day as the Final Boss Challenge to achieve my goal of being Medication FREE which it did.
Q. Or 10 four day fasts once a month?
A. It depends on your goals and your medical history. From personal experience, I found 4-day fasts not long enough to gain enough benefit to offset the 3 days of hell you have to go through to go from glucose to adipose burning. For me, that’s the reason when I do a Prolonged Fast again minimum time I will do so will be for 7 days.
Q. “…if you know about the long term effects on our bodies.”
A. We Americans are only recently coming around to looking at fasting as a viable alternative treatment protocol for metabolic diseases. The Russians, Germans, French and I’m sure other peoples have been aware of the benefits for years. Unfortunately, their research hasn’t been translated into English. Especially, the Russians because most of their documentation was compiled during the Iron Curtain days and there was no communication between research scientists of our respective countries during that time.
That’s the reason when I did my ReFeed and Regrow Major Organs phase I did so with an attitude of experimentation. The U.S. scientist recognized worldwide as one of the leading experts in Prolonged Fasting is Dr. Valter Longo, Director of the Aging Institute at the University of Southern California. His work focuses on how prolonged fasting could help cancer patients better withstand the rigors of chemotherapy. His work is now undergoing human clinical trials at this time.
Hope this helps!
At what day do you start to get energy boost? Im planning a 31 day fast.
It varies, depending on your physical fitness and how much fasting experience your body has. During the 40-day I never experienced an energy boost. However, I believe it’s because my body was pretty ravaged by years of diabetes. HOWEVER, I got the energy boost about a week into the 21-day ReFeed after the stem cells had converted into new cells repopulating my major organs after all the damaged cells had been rejuvenated and the dead cells cannibalized during the fast.
During the 21-day, I believe it was going into Day 4 after the transition into Ketosis. My body was in much better shape, especially after the preceding 30-day flexibility & endurance workout program. What’s really cool is this ReFeed saw a complete rejuvenation of my G.I. Tract where I was have bowel movements as easily and frequently as during my 20s. Having an efficient G.I. Tract again REALLY boosted my energy levels.
Interesting re: energy levels! That was on my mind this morning as I’ve seen no sign of this much talked about energy increase. I do deliveries and gotta say the 40lb plus boxes feel like more of an effort to throw around. Walking is no problem. Then again I’m 58 so I’m not expecting much. LOL
I really loved your journal , I’m on day 9 of a water fast and found lots of useful information in this.
I’m not sure why but your posts came up first when I clicked on the website.
You seem a really nice guy that I’m sure i’d get along with if we met.
I feel for a lot of people doing this fast is because of bad diet choices that lead to being overweight and a host of other related health issues.
This 40 day fast is the easy part, I think the hardest part will/is to change often lifetime bad habits of eating and exercise once the fast is over.
I have to say I was really shocked by your food choices almost immediately after the fast ended. Donuts , cream cheese, sweet pies, beef tacos and a whole host of foods that will get you straight back to where you were before you started.
Do you not see this?
I’ve delved into really educating myself about this whole 40 day fast process and in 2 weeks have read so much. Your daily journal is the first thing that chronicles a day to day journey that I’ve read and I don’t understand the undoing of all that hard work just a few days after you finish. I really wish that I read this in 2019 and that I could have sent this message then to say “wow, i think you need to step back and take a look here”. I’m sure if you showed your food diary after the fast to an expert that they would agree.
I really really hope that despite this that your in a good place with your health and managed to maintain the weight loss that you achieved during this process.
I just felt that I had to voice this.
