S1E3 40-Day Water Fast & Post-Fast ReFeed Journal

Day 34 of 40-day Water fast

Highlights:

  1. Day 34 complete. 816 hours done. 6 more days to go!
  2. Weight loss: 0lbs
  3. Blood sugar: 92
  4. Exercise: 1.2 mile walk

Notes:

  1. Really getting tough without getting deep sleep at night. Aerobic endurance improving though. Pace improved 2/3rds of the walk but then slowed due to running out of energy.

  2. Puked this morning. Or at least tried to. Guess the acetone buildup was too much for the body to take. Felt better afterward.

  3. Thanksgiving celebrated at church potluck today. Actually comforting to smell thanksgiving dinner all around me. Most of the congregation who I ran into couldn’t believe I’ve lasted so long and celebrated my achievement so far.

Do you take these in a form of pills or salts?

Day 35 of 40-Day Water Fast

Highlights:

  1. Day 35 complete. 840 hours done. 5 more days to go!
  2. Weight loss: 1lb Total this fast: 41lbs (9lbs water weight - 32lbs fat)
  3. Blood sugar: 91
  4. Exercise: 1.4 mile walk
  5. Blood pressure: 127/78

Notes:

  1. Finally got 6+ hours of sleep. Still work up twice to brush teeth and rinse out mouth. As a result, during the walk had to take multiple breaks. Had to go to several places during the walk today. Really exhausted on the walk home. No energy reserves so have to watch myself the last 5 days.

  2. Puking out the built-up acetone in the stomach yesterday really made me feel better today.

  3. I’ve tried twice before in giving up the hypertension medication. Failed twice as the bp went back up. Will try again. When I end the fast I’ll be taking the bp at WalMart to see if it will stick this time around.

Day 36 of 40-Day Water Fast

Highlights:

  1. Day 36 complete. 864 hours done. 4 more days to go!
  2. Weight loss: 2lbs. Total this fast: 43lbs (9lbs water weight - 34lbs fat)
  3. Blood sugar: 91
  4. Exercise: 1 mile walk

Notes:

  1. Noticed my emotional control is fraying. Had to bite my tongue dealing with a client today. Had nothing to do with the client. She was being her usual frustrating self. It all had to do with me. Just have to be careful is all.

  2. Only took 1 break on the walk today so my energy was better. Only woke up once last night to brush teeth/rinse mouth out from acetone buildup.

  3. Gotta hang in there. Only 4 more days!

Day 38 of 40-Day Water Fast

Highlights:

  1. Day 38 complete. 912 hours done. 2 days (48 hours) to go!
  2. Weight loss: 1lb. Total this fast: 44lbs (9lbs water weight - 35lbs fat)
  3. Blood sugar: 82
  4. Exercise: 1 mile

Notes:

  1. Hit another toxic patch in the fat. Kidneys were aching all day and most of the night yesterday processing that crap out of my body. Got 5 to 6 hours of sleep but the detox exhausted me on the walk this morning. Had to take multiple breaks but I DID complete the 1 mile walk.

  2. Big winter rain storm hitting the Los Angeles area where I live. The outer suburb where I’m at is right below a mountain range so the winds were really cold during my walk. Luckily I have the Australian cattle rancher seal skin oiled sealed rain coat on top of my North Face fleece shell over thermals and had my duck boots on so I was warm and dry during my walk.

Notes:

  1. Today was tough. Last night fell asleep around 2am. Woke at 5am wanting to throw up. Brushed teeth rinsed mouth went back to bed. Woke at 6:30am. Threw up - speculating from left over toxins and built up acetone. Felt better but weak. As a result walk was tough. Took a lot of break. Finished by repeating the mantra “Pain is temporary, Victory is FOREVER!”

Day 40 of 40-Day Water Fast & Day 1 of ReFeed

Highlights

  1. Day 40 complete. 960 hours done. Yay! :grin::love_you_gesture::tada::tada::tada::trophy: . Weight loss: 1lb. Total this fast: 47lbs (9lbs water weight - 38lbs fat)
  2. Blood sugar: 91
  3. Exercise: 1.4 mile walk

Notes

  1. Fell into the “Willpower Trap”. Shouldn’t have taken that final walk. So excited about finishing I barely had any sleep. Was so light headed when I headed out I had a hard time focusing my eyes. On top of that I set out with an ambitious program of heading out to WalMart to take a final blood pressure reading and then heading to the Sprint mobile phone store to address the issue of my iPhone7 phone draining. On top of that it was so cold (for Southern California) I wore my NorthFace polar fleece with my Tigger 2-layer hoodie jacket (I bought years ago at the Disney Store) with my Duck boots. Barely made it to the 1st bus stop and had to stand waiting for the bus. Damn near got hypothermia as I felt my face going numb. When I got dropped of at the WalMart stop, had to stop and puke. When I got to the Blood Pressure machine in WalMart I found it was broken! Grrr. Well at least I got my weight measured to compare to my home machine. Got back on the bus and had my head down the trip back from exhaustion. Obviously, I abandoned going to the Sprint store! LOL. On the walk home, I broke it up into mini-treks with stops on the way. Pulled all sorts of Jedi mind tricks to get me through it. Including the final scene from Lord of the Rings with Samwise urging me on “Come on Mr. Frodo, you’re almost there!” LOL
  2. Came home and shed the clothes and laid down. Woke up to the alarm signaling my ordeal was finally over. Had the first food (a bowl of vegetable and beef soup - 2 cans of Heathy Choice) since Oct 21st. Wolfed it down. Now making sure I sit in my office chair for at least an hour to help with the digestion into the G.I. Tract. Will also take another blood sugar reading to see what insulin levels are after the meal.
  3. Will take the After pictures tomorrow. Feel too weak right now. Will also reveal more details on the ReFeed plan with tomorrow’s post.

Day 2 of Rebuilding the Body

Highlights:

  1. Weight loss/gain: 0lbs
  2. No exercise - preplanned
  3. OMAD yesterday of Vegetable Beef soup

Notes:

  1. IMPORTANT: If you plan on doing an extended prolonged fast make sure you are supported by family/friends during this part. Reason is your major organs will shrink up to 30% as your body cannibilizes dead and senescent cells. Once you start your ReFeed is like flipping a switch. Your body will go in to TOTAL BODY REBUILD mode. Meaning you won’t have energy for anything else. All you want to do is eat and rest. I got lucky, I scheduled the end of my fast/start of ReFeed for Saturday so my 2nd day was a Sunday. I barely have energy to walk around. Morning of Day 2 I tried coffee with stevia didn’t work at all. Luckily my family has been supportive so someone has cooked my soup meals and another drove me to church.

  2. Hunger. You can’t rely on your hunger mechanism to tell you when to eat because it’s been inactive for so long. You HAVE to schedule your meals. Yesterday I had my 1st meal IMMEDIATELY after my fast finished. I had my 1st meal scheduled this morning after 18 hours. Then my 2nd meal 6 hours later. Both times I ate all of the soup which consisted of 2 cans. My 1st meal was another vegetable and vegetable beef soup. My 2nd meal was 2 cans of Elite Campbell Chicken Soup meaning lots of veggies with chunks of chicken.

  3. Best part has been NO MORE Keto Breath. No more having to brush teeth/rinse mouth out to get foul aftertaste of acetone out of my mouth. No more interrupted sleep. Slept for 5 hours in a row for the 1st time in I don’t know how long.

Congrats on your long fast! Truly inspirational! If you wouldn’t mind- Can you share what you are eating and how you feel with the refeeds? I am trying to get a sense of how to refeed if I do a long fast in December.
Thank you! :slightly_smiling_face:

Alipio,

A big congratulations on finishing! Such a great feat and it’s clear from your post that there were many roadblocks you mentally pushed through in the pursuit of better health. Well done. Reading your blog has been inspiring for me and helped me to solidify my commitment - currently on day 7 o fa 21 day fast, my longest ever. Thank you for being an inspiring human in this journey.

I follow different ReFeed strategies depending on the length of the fast. For 5-7 day water fasts, I start the ReFeed with 2 cans of Healthy Choice soup: Vegetable & Vegetable Beef. 2 hours later I follow with a more substantial meal. For the 40-day, I did the 1st 2 days of the ReFeed with Soup. For the 3rd day, I switched to solid food (you can read the details on my Continuation of Day 3 ReFeed after the 40-Day).
