Question about my Ketosis level

Hi, 1st time on the forum. Just a question about my ketosis level.
I am currently 6 days i to a water fast that started as 2 days but I feel that good that I keep extending it. I was going to stop at 7 but now thinking of doing 10.
My ketosis level is at 3.2 and have read that optimal is 1.5 to 3. So I googled it & some sites say that 3.2 is dangerous.
I’m guessing that was written by someone that knows nothing about fasting.
I’m an over weight 58 year old male but currently feel great & have had no side effects. I also have a teaspoon of hymilayan pink salt mixed in water about once a day.
So is there anything to worry about wit my ketosis level at 3.2 ???
Thanks in advance for any help provided
Regards Mark

Hi Mark,

Welcome to our fasting community.

I’m the resident “greybeard” both figuratively and literally as I hold the current record for longest water fast at 40 days and I’m 60.

In regards to your question, I tagging @Anna and @Yasemin as they are in a better position to answer.

For myself, I did NOT measure my ketones as I was focused on measuring my BGL (Blood Glucose Level) as I was a T2 diabetic at the time. Also I saw a YouTube video with I can’t remember who said that you didn’t need a machine to tell you if you were in ketosis or not. You were in ketosis if you were losing weight. That was good enough for me. Also I consult with an endocrinologist at the University of Southern California weekly and the subject of measuring ketones never came up during the fast.

Cool thanks for the reply

It’s only an issue if you are diabetic.

@Carnivor_nurse. In what way would it have been issue? Just curious since I’ve reversed my T2 diabetes.

She’s talking about ketoacidosis

Sorry Im not getting notifications for this so I havent checked in a bit. But yes if your diabetic and have large amounts of ketones without trying it is diabetic ketoacidosis. It’s only a concern if you are eating a lot of carbs and still showing ketones. Metabolic breakdown of muscle for nutrients.
