Newbie. Breaking a 5 day water fast?

Just wondering if anyone could help me ? I’m wanting to break my 5 day water fast and not gain the weight back that I lost

Years ago I did a couple of prolonged fast, and when I finished I always gained back the weight and more. Everything I ate stayed on. I think I messed my metabolism up? This was 30 years ago.

I want to try it again, but I want to do it right, and keep the weight off

Thank you in advance

@rryn122 Welcome!

Read one of Dr. Jason Fung’s books on fasting. Some folks recommend breaking the fast slowly, taking half again as long to return to normal eating (1 day for every 2 fasted). Others don’t feel it’s necessary to go that slowly.

However, your stomach has been resting for a few days, so breaking the fast with a small meal such as eggs or some broth might be helpful to you.

I generally break my fasts with eggs and fat.

The main thing is to have a plan for what you are going to do. You want to adequately nourish yourself with fat and protein, not plunge headfirst into a pile of carbs. :grinning:

Go easy and work it back up.

You are going to gain some back.

You have to consider, a lb takes burning off 3500 calories. Depending on your size, you may burn anywhere from 1200 to 2000 a day.

So it may take a couple of days for each actual lb to go.

There should be a refeed, and a follow up after if you wish to maintain or trickle some more off.

With out more about you and your ultimate goals it’s hard to share ideas for you to consider.

Welcome to the forum🙂
