I have just joined this group and am not sure how to proceed. Do I start a new topic to introduce myself? I don’t consider myself a topic, but I may be wrong.
New user, now what?

Hello to everyone🖐🏻. I have just completed my first week of an open-ended water fast. I lost 9 pounds and an inch and a half on my belly, but looking at myself, there really isn’t much change.
I have more mental clarity when I wake up. Before, it would take a pot of coffee and at least an hour to come to. My sense of smell is improving. I can differentiate a French fry from a potatoe chip from 500 feet. On a very personal note, a yeast infection in my anal area has disappeared. That area is currently vacationing.
My plan is to not eat until my belly is gone. In the mean time I am investigating how to proceed with my life after the fast. One thing is for sure, suger, in its various forms, has been removed from the edible list and placed on The Way To Commit Suicide list.
Congratulations on your achievements. Look forward to reading more about your journey.
Congrats and welcome, Terry!
Welcome to our community! Glad you are quitting sugar too!!!
Wow, impressive!
Amazing accomplishments for one week! The first week is generally a lot of water loss, so don’t become discouraged if the weight loss slows down for the second week. All the good stuff starts happening now…you are in autophagy and ketosis. So even though the weight slows down…the healing is just gearing up! Great job!
I am in my tenth day and this is the first morning I haven’t awoken to hunger pains. I hope this is a trend. I will have to investigate ketosis. I don’t know what it is.
I don’t know how to edit a post, yet.
My report on my first weeks weight loss was wrong. The loss was 19 lbs not 9 lbs. I went from 222 to 203. My wife and I were guessing how much I’d lost. She said 8 lbs, I said 10 lbs and we laughed that it was right in the middle. It was hours later that I realized the error. Then, I could not believe it. Of course, my belly didn’t believe it either. It pretty much looks the same.
I drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day as an accelerant. I also drink, maybe, a quarter cup of dill pickle juice and a sip of green olive juice for electrolytes. I haven’t investigated vitamins yet. I didn’t explore water fasting before I started, I just stopped eating.
Congrats on reaching Day 10.

- I believe coffee is NOT an accelerant in terms of water fasting. @anna and @Yasemin can check me on that.
- They can also confirm on dill pickle juice and green olive juice it any of those knocks you out of ketosis.
- Ketosis is the scientific name for fat burning (aka adipose burning).
Hope this helps!
The reason I was using pickle juice is that if I have leg cramps ( before this fast) it helps ease them, so I thought there must be electrolytes in the juice. I only have 2 tablespoons a day. If this amount would keep me from burning fat, then that would explain why I haven’t experienced the bad breath issues I have read about.
I have never taken vitamins or minerals, so I am not sure what is what when it comes to that. Will you recommend a site that you think would answer those questions? Also, what do you do to cleanse the colon during your fasts?
This is day 11 and the hunger is staying dormant.
I don’t know of a specific site as its common scientific knowledge of the importance of keeping up your electrolytes. I picked up on the salt, potassium and magnesium as required that way because of it always comes up from YouTubers, doctors, nutritionists and research scientists I respect.
For cleansing the colon, prolonged water fasting does that from my understanding. @anna can provide more scientific explanations on these questions as she’s our resident medical expert, especially in terms of nutrition.
I have stopped using pickle juice and olive juice as you recommended. I have replaced it with pink salt, which, amazingly, I have had on the table for three years and never used. It was a gift and the grinder was nice, but I have only used the pepper. I was suspicious of the pink color.
The salt has allowed me to retain more water and improve the color of my urine. This is the thirteenth day. I still have underlying hunger, but not intense.
My family celebrated a very late Christmas yesterday with a feast. I was very surprised by their reaction to my fast. It varied from alarm to (almost) hostility. Part of it was from concern, but part was from not participating in the social construct of “breaking bread” together. Somehow, on some level, I was viewed as antisocial and rejecting family values. It surprised me.
Yes, to avoid all the negative energy (as Yas likes to put it) I kept it confidential until the weight loss became too obvious. However, I did need one person to be accountable to, so I recruited my pastor that I had to report to weekly. We made it public when it became obvious I was doing something.
Two weeks today. 196 lbs. A 26 lb loss with only a 7 lb difference in the second week. Belly still fat and sassy, but I think it is exhibiting false bravado because it knows it’s days are numbered.
Yesterday, I had a bowel movement, which surprised me. It appeared to be a manifestation of coffee grounds. I hadn’t thought of that and am going to wean myself off coffee.
Congrats on 2 weeks. Great achievement.
Been there with the unexpected bowel movement. Had one on Day13 of my 40-day.
I had one-two every week until the last week then I had one every few days during my 31 day fast.
I was also having Bowen Therapy and i believe she kept that part of my system awake during the fast.
It’s all the dead cells, used up fat and crap your body is healing and sorting through.
The body naturally makes poop without us adding food in. Definitely normal
Day17. Yesterday was mentally challenging. I felt very discouraged for no reason. I told my wife that it just seemed like such a long time since I had food. I was nostalgic about it!
Two days ago, I drank a bottle of Magnesium Citrate just to see what would happen. I am not going to recommend it. I was thinking it would it would clean me out. Well, it did it’s best, but after a day of trying, my stool was still nasty.
Day 19. I have perked up and feel more positive. A couple of days there, I had low energy and was very cold all the time; almost like I was sick.
I have started to drink tea. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it before, maybe, because I was drinking coffee. The flavor of different herbal teas is wonderful. I have been missing “taste”. I haven’t been much of a tea drinker because I didn’t feel tea had much taste. It has a lot of taste now, the only tastes I have available. Hibiscus tea has gone from namby-pamby to exotic.
Feeling cold is normal this deep in the fast. The reason is your blood
is flowing into your adipose cells to get to to your fat for energy.
