New user, now what?

Day 21. 192 lbs. a four pound drop for the week and 30 overall. The weight loss is slowing dramatically. 5 inches off the belly, but my contour is the same: I lead with my belly. It’s like a hood ornament on an old car.
I have read that women’s breasts are the first to want to donate fat to the weight loss cause and that men hang on to their bellies until the bitter end. Just think what a different world it would be if we could work out these differences amongst ourselves. Men and women would have a new and real appreciation of each other. Men would pursue small breasted women and a man with a belly would be an object of desire.

ROFLMAO! All the busty women would then HATE your guts!

Day 24. Since last week only yielded a 4 pound loss, I decided to take walks of about a mile each day. Surprisingly, I had more energy throughout the day and was decidedly warmer. I had one day where I was so tired I could hardly stay awake, but after walking, the next three days I was normally alert and the little ball in the pit of my stomach disappeard. The last three days have truly been without hunger. It is a blessing.

Day 25. The wild dogs of hunger have left the carcass of my belly. Mild exercise definitely helps me mentally.
My birthday was yesterday and my family and I celebrated it without the birthday cake. My sister-in-law made a nice dinner and I sat in the place of honor with a cup of tea. I complimented her on how good it smelled. I am getting much less resistance from them about my fast, thank goodness. It is only my mother that is holding out.

Day 28. Down 5lbs over the previous week for a total of 35 lbs. (222-187). Belly, at the button, is down 6 lnches.
I still have the same body conformation as when I started. I thought that fasting this long would have cured that. I still have lots of fat on my lower back above my waist.
My son-in-law is doing a low carb diet and has lost 20lbs while eating in the same time frame as my fast.
I am going to continue fasting and see what happens. I feel really good and hunger isn’t much of a problem anymore. I am very calm, almost dreamy at times. I have feelings of happiness and security, like being hugged.

Each body is different in how it accumulates fat. As I used to tell clients when I was a CPT for 5 years (Certified Personal Trainer), when you lose fat you lose it in reverse order in how you gained it. Personally, I’ve lost 70lbs since 8/9/19 and the last few pounds are all in my belly. Wearing athletic shorts I haven’t worn in over 25 years since my windsurfing days.

Day 30. Compdude, that is good to know. I am losing fat in places I don’t think about much, like my feet. Sunday, I tried on a pair of shoes that had cobwebs in them and they fit. Last time I wore them was three years ago!
I have never tried to lose weight before, so I may be unappreciative of my progress.

FYI: During refeed don’t freak out when you gain some weight back. The little lean muscle mass you lose during a prolonged fast comes back. It weighs more and takes up less space than fat.

Day 30. Yesterday I saw my doctor and was advised to stop fasting. He told me that at my age (75), to continue on past 30 days would lead to muscle loss that could take a very long time to replace. He was very supportive of the weight l have lost (36 lbs) and encouraged the no suger, low carb, high protein diet.
I broke my fast with a cup of bone broth and a teaspoon of plain Greek yogurt. Since I didn’t know that I was going to stop the fast, I bought some ready- made broth. It was “Imagine chicken, beef and turkey”. It tasted like a cross between a vinyl seat cover of a 1967 Mercury and barn dust. Today, I heated up the rest of it and added salt, pepper and a teaspoon of curry leaves. That helped a little. I am waiting to see how that and a 1/4 cup of the yogurt settle. My stomach sounds like an orchestra of frogs!

What scientific studies is he basing his contention on? While there is some lean muscle mass lost during a prolonged fast it comes back quickly during ReFeed that includes protein (Dr Valter Longo - Director of the Aging Institute at the University of Southern California). Also recent human based studies by Dr Benjamin Bikman of BYU shows that the process of ketosis preserves lean muscle mass.

These and other studies have proven that fasting is the preferred method for weight loss over caloric reduction diets that are based on small frequent meals,

I didn’t ask him what studies he based his opinion on. I was there to schedule a colonoscopy and mentioned that I was on an extended fast in case that would interfere with the anesthetics. His reaction was overwhelming. He explained the villi and how they react to fasting and how to reenervate them during refeed, how to keep a no sugar, low carb diet, how to exercise and on and on. It was like I had stumbled onto this guys passion. I have been going to this doctor for years and never had such a personal interest exposed, so no, I didn’t follow all of that outpouring with, “And what do you base that on?”.
I am off sugar and will Keto diet and see what happens. Theoretically, I should still lose weight. Correct? If all goes well, I will be a healthier person that I was two months ago.

On another note, should I keep a history of my experiences after the fast on another topic?

Yes. What are you doing for exercise?

It’s up to you. I like to keep separate journals for different phases of my project so its easier for other members to find specifically what they are interested in.

I am doing nothing for exercise. I played two games of ping-pong last night and had to take a chair to recover. I feel very weak.

Ok. That’s your fitness level at this point. Just start with that.

When I began my process back in August last year my starting fitness level was 1/2 mile walk with 3 sitting breaks.
