DAY 1: Hi everyone! Really excited to share my journey here with you. I would like to post my daily IF/OMAD Meals here as I have a problem with overeating during these times… doing the best I can!
I am currently 5’5 and 134lb. My goal is to lose 1lb/week through IF/OMAD while exercising as often as my schedule allows (not super often haha) and my ultimate goal weight is 120lb.
Monica's Accountability IF/OMAD Journal GW: 120
Welcome to our fasting community!
I’m the resident “greybeard” both figuratively and literally as I currently hold the record for the longest completed water fast at 40 days and I’m older than dirt.
If you have any questions or need to for help, feel free to do so.
Welcome! I’m excited to follow your journey of IF/OMAD! I hope you’ll find this forum helpful, it has been a great tool for me!
Day 1 Post:
Height: 5’5
CW: 134
GW: 120
I have lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks doing a mix of intermittent fasting and HIIT workouts. I tend to overeat during OMAD which is why I would like to share my story and be accountable to my meals.
This is my OMAD meal for the day in the photo below: I highly recommend the Instant pot for lower calorie delicious vegetarian/vegan meals. I made 0.5 cups bulgur, dried mushrooms, frozen spinach, and lots of spices and mixed it all together and added some olives and hot sauce. Spinach is great for filling you up. I used to make huge batch meals but then would just end up eating them all in front of the TV so now I make a meal knowing I would be okay eating the whole amount. Dried mushrooms are AMAZING!
My diet (lifestyle choice): I don’t consume meat/dairy/alcohol/nuts/sugar/bread
My favorite book right now: The Hunger Fix - This book made me realize I had an intense food addiction to sugar and bread. I just have to treat it as a real food addiction like alcoholics treat alcohol.
Some helpful fitness apps: StepBet/DietBet/RunBet for people that need external accountability like me!
Quote of the day: I like this quote because it highlights how important TODAY is
Time with either expose you or promote you
Bread has been an addiction issue for me as well, I really can’t be moderate what so ever with those types of processed foods so I’m staying off it completely now!
That meal looks delicious!
Thank you! I am really happy to have a forum where I can share and hope I can become a regular contributor.
Yes, I am really glad to hear that it is not just me that has this issue with bread!
After awhile, it gets much easier, the first few days are hardest. I just cannot have it in my environment and if it is around, I actively don’t even look at it.
I used to try to quit gluten completely after reading books like Grain Brain or Wheat Belly but…the sheer enormity of no gluten overwhelmed me. This led me to not be very successful, so no bread is already a large accomplishment for me. Progress over Perfection
I guess I count myself lucky. I used to have the same bread addiction and I no longer have it. Last Friday night, a friend took me out for a belated birthday dinner at this BBQ restaurant. They had free freshly baked biscuits which before I would stuff my face with. Now, I had one and it didn’t taste as good as I remembered so I didn’t have anymore.
FYI @anna That was one of the addictions I lost from the Potato diet.
It looks delicious
DAY 2:
IF: 19 hours
Lunch: 1 entire avocado and 2 apples. A friend asked me to get lunch and I preferred to be social so I ate.
Dinner: Photo is below. 0.25 cups uncooked bulgur, dried shiitake mushrooms, black fungus AKA “wood ear”, frozen spinach, some tomatoes, frozen vegetables, and lots of spices (Cumin, garlic powder, chili, vegetable bouillon) in the Instant Pot for 10 minutes with a some water and then I added some olives on the side with hot sauce.
It is ALOT of food and I am pretty full, but not stuffed. I think this meal is maximum 700 calories. Next time, I could use less shiitake mushrooms, and I need to leave them in boiling water for a bit longer. The black fungus is extremely low calorie and filling. I can recommend adding that and I feel completely satisfied right now.
Exercise: Les Mills Body Attack Class for 1 hour (www.lesmills.com)
Book recommendation: Atomic Habits by James Clear
Quote of the day from James Clear: Frequency > Time: There is nothing magical about time passing with regard to habit formation. It doesn’t matter if it’s been 21 days or 30 days or 300 days. What matters is the rate at which you perform the behavior. You could do something twice in 30 days, or 200 times. It’s the frequency that makes the difference.”
Tip of the day: What I found really helps me eat less or distract myself is smelling essential oils or perfume, just changing what I smell in the air right after I eat takes my brain off of food. I use an essential oil diffuser or spray perfume. Scents are very powerful and can trigger different memories etc. It is probably best to use a scent completely not food related to change your state of mind.
Love this!!! Following your journey!!!
Wow well I learnt something new today…the black fungus sounds fascinating and all your references sound brill. Someone could just replicate your day as a guide. Look forward to more photos and reading. 19 hours…that’s cool
DAY 3:
IF: 18 hours
Lunch: 1 entire avocado and 2 apples.
Dinner: Photo is below with frozen raspberries as a snack. It is the same bulgur with spinach, frozen vegetables, wood ear mushrooms, and some tuna. I love tuna, and I am trying to eat less of it (to be more sustainable)
To be completely real, I didn’t do well today for day 3 of journaling. Today I ate 2 bowls of frozen raspberries and 2 bowls of bulgur, so whatever you see below times 2! I felt pretty full already from my meal yesterday, and was not very hungry when I came home from an evening out. I considered going to bed early but then I still ate so much out of habit and because I just really enjoy eating.
Next time, I will tell myself to just go to bed!
I have to celebrate my small wins and that I am consistently journaling. Tomorrow marks my 21st day of Intermittent Fasting of at least 16 hours a day and I am SO proud of that! And I have also been free of sugar and bread for this time too and I love myself for that!
I can already visibly see in my body and face that I have lost weight and have become much more toned than 3 weeks ago.
Quote of the day: Feelings follow actions, not the other way around.
I really like this quote because sooo many times I just don’t want to do something because I don’t “feel” like it. I have to remind myself though, we only feel like doing things once we actually do them! For example, I never regret exercising, but it is hard for me to get myself to go exercise. Once I am exercising, I am happy and energized. Or I never regret eating a healthy meal and I feel stable and happy afterwards, but sometimes I don’t “feel” like it. Another great example is making yourself smile. Try it right now. If you make yourself smile, you actually feel better because your brain is getting a signal that you are happy. It works!
Day 4: Still fasting
Extremely motivated today! Went to the gym and lifted weights as well in body pump.
I just need to stay consistent!
Quote of the day by James Clear: “The quality of our lives often depends on the quality of our habits.”
That’s a great quote! Good job so far!
Day 5: So I am actually now at 46 hours of my 2 day fast and I will continue onwards. This is the longest fast I have ever done! REALLY proud of myself. I am actually not feeling hungry at all, just sleepy but alert at the same time. I want to get to at least 72 hours.
Quote of the day: Either you run the day, or the day runs you.
Congratulations on your record!
Thanks Anna! That means a lot to me!
Day 6: I am actually at 72 hours of fasting! WOW this is a record for me.
I’ve only lost 1.5 pounds though…clearly tough to lose weight…
Exercise: 1 hour Les Mills Body Pump. I have to tell you, it was insanely amazing. I actually lifted the same amount of weights I normally do. I just had so much energy. I used to think people made this up haha. I drank a coffee beforehand. I’m excited to share that I feel better than I have felt in a long time, and I visibly look better. I am SOOO happy!
Quote of the day: Human beings have unlimited potential and most of us are just scraping the surface of our powers.
So proud of you!!! Can’t wait to see today’s update!!
