Merri's First Journal- Prepping for an extended water fast!

Hello! I’m Merri. I am 21 years old and I am currently the heaviest I’ve ever been at 196lbs. I am 5’5 and my long term goal weight is 130lbs. I want to shed some weight to feel better and be more healthy.

I have been progressively eating less and Jan 1st I am planning to embark on a water fast for at least 7 days! Because it is my first time I will see how I feel after the 7 days and hopefully I will be able to continue. Keeping a positive attitude and focusing on my faith. One more day to mentally prepare. Very excited, wish me luck!

Hi Water Fasting Fam!!!

Whats uppppppp who is ready to fast in this new year?!?!
Started off strong today. Despite being very hungover I was able to not eat today. And I mean VERY hungover but I knew I was not making any excuses! I have been staying hydrated and even took my dog for a long walk after sleeping in. Later in the day I realized that my period starts today as well. SO the odds are stacked against me right now but I know that just means that if I can meet my first goal I can do anything. I feel good so far. I know I am capable and can do this!

7 days (water fasting) is my first goal and when I hit that target I may extend. I am hoping to lose at least 10 lbs this month and avoid gaining any weight back of course!

Stayed strong today! My friends and I went bowling and they got McDonald’s while I got water. Tempting to eat but I am staying focused on my goals.

Day 3 water fast
January 3, 2020

Day 3 went well. I was sleepy and took a long nap. I have developed a rash in my neck which I presume is keto rash though I am not sure. It is annoying but I’m going to preserve.
I have really surprised myself with my progress so far. I’m really proud of myself for getting this done despite the challenges. I am excited to see where this takes me mentally and physically.

Day 4 water fasting

Today was day 4! I felt good today. I had some tea when I felt hungry and kept focused. I am excited to get through day 5 tomorrow- then only 2 days until my first goal which is 7 days! It is getting easier everyday. I am thinking about also making YouTube videos haha. I really want to do 31 days- the whole month- and it could be helpful to document it.

The community here is what I owe my progress to and I am so thankful.

Reviewing your journal I see this is your 1st fast and you set up your next milestone at 10.

First congrats are in order, not many 1st timers make it this far. Keep setting milestones. For me, I did progressively longer fasts: 4, 5, 7 and then 40.

As you go longer you’re going to encounter “tougher” challenges, such as detoxification episodes. That’s because one of the protective mechanisms of the body is storing toxins in our fat. I had, at least 3, during my completed 40 day.

Again congrats :champagne:

Yaay for passing this milestone! As a first timer myself I really didn’t think I could even past the first 3 days. Keep on being motivated and whenever you feel down, we are in this together so keep on thriving!

Hi, I’m just starting today. Did a 36 hour fast before the end of the year. I have the same stats and goals as you. Im 5’5. 200lbs. I was literally just 129lbs last summer but stopped a medication i was on and got very sick. So here I am, heaviest ive ever been and losing my mind. Trying to get back to my “good” weight. I’ve set a goal of 7 days as well but honestly I want to push further if I can. So I just wanted to say, I’m just like you!

Yay I am rooting for you! I can’t imagine going from 129 to 200 I would lose my mind too. I’m on day 5 right now the mental struggle is real but it is totally worth it and I know you can do it! Right now I am 185 So I lost 11 lbs in 5 days. It may be similar for you. I think I am going to keep going until I am at 160lbs then continue with keto. 7 days is a good first goal because there are so many health benefits to fasting 7 days too!
you got this!

Day 5 Water Fasting

Today started out great cause I had church in the morning which I love. So I was in a good mood but I was totally craving the burritos my best friends family made. Then I took a nap and dreamt of eating a burrito forgetting I was fasting. Good thing it was just a dream and I have the rest of my life to eat burritos. I hope nobody gets cravings from me mentioning food- not worth!! Make some tea.

I actually have been watching Mukbangs on youtube of people eating if I get a craving and it really helps me. For some people that may trigger cravings though so be careful.

I am super proud of myself for finally making a radical change in my life. I am somebody who finds it difficult committing to things but I am totally committed to this and can’t wait to see where it takes me.

Haha I had dreams like that as well during my last fast, and I was watching those kinds of videos too! Somehow I was fine with just imagining how good something could taste without feeling like I had to have it!
I’m glad you’re doing so well!
