May 14th Start 7-Day Fasting Challenge

@Jewell The only thing I can think of is maybe you need more electrolytes??? I mix mine in water and drink half in the morning and the other half around 6 pm. The only difference is I add baking soda (aluminum free…Bob Mills brand). I add a teaspoon of that to my water.

I read that the weakness is due to your body changing energy resources, so hopefully, once it starts using the fat as storage your energy will increase. I hope it does. Please get some rest if you can and keep us updated. :heartbeat:

I wanted to share this especially since I can’t sleep.

So with all the money I’ve been saving by fasting, I put it into an envelope.

Usually I would spend at least $15 a day on something not healthy. For each day I complete, I put $15 in an envelope to go towards new clothes for my new body. I’ve been looking on my favorite clothing sites and adding things to my shopping cart. There are some great deals going on now.

I have $30 saved so far! Cha ching! :money_with_wings: :moneybag: :womans_clothes: :dress:

Amazing!!!

Hi Jewel, have you tried doing an enema. They really really help with the dizziness and nausea. It cleanses your body and fast tracks toxin elimination. Usually Day 3 I feel super dizzy and weak but after an enema I feel great.

I felt good ending it honestly as I was tired of almost continual stomach aches. It wasn’t even that I was hungry for food. It was wanting my strength back & an end to stomach aches. I am targetting the next fast in 5 day stretches to give myself a chance to celebrate fasting victories more often. The longest I calculate I can go is about 25 days before refeeding with my son’s birthday on June 17th & Father’s Day which we combine since last year on son’s bday.

To be sure, I will continue to post about my journey every day. It keeps me honest!

Day 1 wasn’t too bad, since I’ve already been doing OMAD for a month. Just some stomach grumbles in the morning. I went for a nice long walk in the evening to get out of the apartment and think about my goals.

Day 2 is here! So far, so good. Since it’s Saturday, I’m coming up with a list of tasks and activities to keep my mind busy. I have a backlog of unfinished cross stitch projects that could use some work.

On Day 6: 11.8 lbs down so far! Yaaaay!

Hang in there, they will eventually go away. Just hold on. You can do it.

@NOLALady, thanks for your response! And for letting me know about your journal-- would you mind if I swing over and read some of your posts? The journal is a great idea, and I’ve been thinking about taking little video journal clips as I go along.

Thanks for the electrolytes comments! Sounds like you might have done some research in the realms of Cole Robinson? I have actually included baking soda as well, though I don’t add it religiously to the water I’m drinking.

A part of me thinks that the major transformations we are looking for in fasting sort of require a major physical (and mental) transformation, which might mean that I don’t feel strong for this whole fasting experience-- and that’s ok! And oddly enough, as I was writing that sentence this video started playing on one of my other tabs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78I9dTB9vqM). Perhaps the message is-- suffering can instigate growth, and I don’t need to run away from it. That being said, today will be my 5th day fasting, and I really feel ok! I feel mentally totally alert and amazing, and the weakness I feel physically I’m willing to explore a bit more-- maybe I’ll go for a bike ride today and see what happens.

Hope you have a great weekend!

I love this idea, @NOLALady! A way to reward yourself for your discipline that does not involve ice cream (sometimes my idea of a reward ), and actually celebrates what you are doing for your body. Thanks for sharing!

Strong work, @Van! Keep it up and let us know how you’re doing!

@Tenax, thanks for sharing. Really these are impressively long fasts you are pulling-- you must have strong will power and a very clear ‘why’ for fasting. Do you care to share? Your son’s birthday combined with Father’s Day seem like a great way to celebrate and close an extended fast.

Celebrating in 5 day stretches seems like a great approach, I like it! It makes the fasts quite a bit more manageable mentally, I could imagine. How are you celebrating as you are making progress?

Hope you have a great weeekend!

@K8_man, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the enema! I did a salt water flush near the beginning of the fast, and thought that I could do an enema towards the end. But now you have me considering it now…

While I am sipping water with electrolytes, I’ve also considered a once-a-day water with ACV and lemon-- anybody have thoughts or opinions on how worthwhile this is (and whether 1-2 Tbsp of lemon juice would affect insulin)?

I’ve only done 2 long ones so I feel like a novice. I am stubborn I admit & this last time, it seemed like my food addiction was getting the best of me where in the best I felt I could always come back from it. Seeing pics of myself, my daughter’s impending wedding & wanting to look decent, finding out that I have osteoarthritis in my right knee & a belief I was pre-diabetic were all signifigant motivators for me to smarten the hell up:)

@Jewell I definitely recommend considering doing it every 3-5 days (depending how long you will be fasting for)- helps a lot!

Regarding the ACV & lemon- it shouldn’t spike insulin- not sure what the others day?
I personally do the ACV before bed- I add some Himalayan salts too…

Do you exercise whilst fasting? I am eager to try this time round.

@Clara, thanks for posting! Just checking in to see how you’re doing? I am in the same boat and had never made it past 4 days-- today marks day 5 for me! Would love to hear how you’re feeling, sending my best!

@Tenax I know there are more experienced extended fasters out there, but the multiple extended fasts you have already done are super inspiring-- I hope you feel proud of your stubbornness (though I would define it as impressive willpower  ).

Food addiction is a tough one, and an indication to me that the hardest (and perhaps most important?) changes to make in these processes are mental. How best to make those mental changes, and for the long haul, is something I am curious about-- do you have any thoughts?

Love hearing your motivations for fasting-- thank you for sharing. Sending my best thoughts for your optimal health and that you get to enjoy your daughter’s wedding looking and feeling great.

@K8_man, thanks again for the recommendations-- I’ll likely try an enema this evening, and get back to you with how I feel.

I also think I’ll add some ACV and see how that feels.

I have been exercising while fasting, but only depending on how my body feels-- the last two days I have been busy with work, and feeling shaky/drained, so I haven’t done it. Today I plan to get out for a bike ride, and look forward to that. I have been doing daily breathwork, and have seen a significant response to that-- will definitely keep that up, beyond the fast as well. Getting outside and doing yoga also seem like valuable facets to the fasting process. What exercise will you do while fasting? Any other things you like to do during your fasting process?

BTW, before this pandemic, I was traveling to South Asia 1-2 times each year, and would frequently fly through Dubai. I haven’t yet stopped to explore there, but would really like to! How do you like it there?
