Looking for a buddy

Hi there,
I’m new here.
I want to s do a water fast and I’m looking for a buddy.
I did some times keto before and know there from, that I feel so much better and stronger when I’m not loaded with crap.
But I’ll be honest, that staying keto for longer was just to much effort, like I have family with different food priorities to cook for. Therefore I want to start water fasting now, losing some extra weight, loosing my addiction to sweets and feeling great.
Is there somebody within?

I can start flexible from tomorrow on, Thursday 7th of September till Monday 11th.
And I want to do a 14 day water fast.

Actually I’m already on my 3rd day keto to have an easier start.

Happy to here from u :grinning:

I do adf and omad on my eating days, I’m planning to do this for 2 maybe 3 months I’ll scatter some longer fasts in as well if I’m not at my monthly goals. 20 pounds per month non negotiable.

We can keep a thread here or move to Whatsapp if you want  I’ve done a 30 day fast and keto for like ever and a 14 day fast as well in my past. I actually have some video logs of that too.

Hey there Jazie, I’m up and running :running_man: and on day 6. Just going to go as far as I feel I need too. I’m up for giving you any support you need and would make a point of checking in daily. good luck :crossed_fingers:

Hey,
Cool. I just started yesterday evening, so few more minutes and my first day of water fast is done.
And it was surprisingly easy.
But maybe also because I didn’t have to cook for the family today. But also I felt mentally quiet strong today.

Good luck for u too

I first had to Google translate your words “non negotiable”… Sorry, couldn’t use my English quiet some years now :grimacing:

I read that u already lost 50 pounds, that’s quiet a high number I think.
Be proud about it!!!
And not disappointed if u don’t reach 20 pounds every month. That sounds quiet a big number.

But I’m happy to read your comment, your cheering.

One question just coming to my mind, I everywhere heard fasting is the hardest the first 3-5 days… So why did u now for yourself decide for a rolling fast? Is it easier for u with family dinners or work stuff etc?
Or is it more efficient, mentally easier…?

Happy to hear from u :grinning:

Excellent JaZie :slightly_smiling_face: that is promising, your keto preparation definitely aids that. From my experience, around 24hrs to 30 hours, I experience a little hunger, sometimes a little irrebility, which is your body switching from glucose metabolism to ketones and fat metabolism. Knowing its going to pass helps. I’ve done several 5 day fasts and one 13day fast. My preference for the longer ones is I’m looking for maximum healing and stem cell activation which starts after 48hrs. So if doing several 5 days only 3 of those count which takes longer. Hopefully, you will be cruising along. I’m prepared mentally for some ups and downs though which is my mind and body adjusting which I’ll try and push through because that’s where you reap the benefits.

 My bad!!!

I personally had lost 130 but after pregnancy I gained quite a bit. Ultimately now I’m only down 37 pounds from where I started years ago.

I choose to do adf because of the mental part. Honestly starting out on day 1 doesn’t bother me. It’s around day 3-5 that I start missing food. And getting weak from missing electrolytes. Overall I just prefer the ability to say “oh well I can have it tomorrow” concept.

I do have a tendency to overeat though. And cause stomach upset. So that’s fun. I have to be really really mindful of my choices.

As for the 20 pounds goal with fasting it’s totally easy if I stick firmly to my plan. However I’ve been falling short so I need to adjust my fasting schedule. And meal planning.

I wish you luck! And hope today went well for you!!!

Like my last fast was just before the kids… it’s quiet some time now. Like around 2013 I guess, I did a 7 day fast and a 10 day fast.

But I guess being just for yourself, and just doing linke u feel might be different to having still to pack lunches and to cook, to sit always next to eating people and to do the grocery shopping

So I guess the “worst” mental point now will be to figure out how to chill if necessary when I actually can’t, because unfortunately the kids don’t have a pause button :grimacing:

Hiya, im wondering why you don’t take electrolytes whilst fasting? Anything that makes this easier without losing the benefits I embrace.
Fasting is totally mental, in the main as long as I stay super hydrated I’m fine. Reminding myself to drink enough water is what I concentrate on. So as soon as I get cravings or even a thought of food I drink water, even better is being full of water and not getting cravings or thoughts in the first place is even better. Being at the toilet more keeps me moving and active. The other challenge is breaking the habit of eating, occupying my mind on something else helps that. Just some thoughts, that hopefully is helpful. If you have done it once you can definitely do it again, you’re stronger than you think. Good luck.

Day 7, felt good, amazing weather which is so unlike Scotland. Stupidly walked miles with new trainers and now have a bad blister that will curtail my walking and steps but no major worry, the walking and steps are a bonus. Noticing both mental and physical changes in my body. Skin has improved, mental clarity improved, mood is good and starting to slowly notice some fat loss although nothing major as yet. Not weighing myself just going by the mirror and I notice less inflammation in body. Really amazing because I feel I eat healthily yet still some inflammation occurs. Hope everything is going good JaZie. :slightly_smiling_face:

Wow day 7 for u. I read a lot that is getting easier after day 7. Good job!

I had a terrible night with my little one, so I didn’t wonder to feel bad in the mornings… but because of that I realized to late that I should also take electrolytes. But well prepared I drank them slowly (felt like I need to vomit) and one hour later everything was great again.

I’ll now just take them every day, I just can’t “make slow” or feeling sick with my kiddos.

I’m stepping on the Scala daily, I’m too nervous to not check the numbers.
But sid, your point of just being, and feeling the changes is for sure the mentally healthier way.

I would love to join this

Hi there Alli_T!

My day 3 is almost over, and the day was just great. Even baking muffins was all right

Hope u all are fine as well.

Some of the Drs I read and follow say that electrolytes limit the healing properties of a fast. But I’m planning to do a three day fast starting Sunday, and may increase it to 5-7 days. We shall see. I know I didn’t lose any weight this week, but haven’t been doing well on my eating days. So that’s my problem.

JaZie, yeah any stress will make this harder, any release of cortisol will make the body produce some blood sugar which in turn start cravings and hunger. Any time I feel any stress I do breath work which helps a bit.

Day 8

Felt good and energetic and completed 16 thousand steps and drinking more water to see if it speeds up fat loss. No hunger pains today and clean energy. Weekends when I normally have a treat takeaway is a little hard mentally but just keeping reminding myself it’s only a thought and will go away. Been sleeping surprisingly well, maybe even deeper than when eating so that is a major plus. I feel myself burning fat when I’ve slept well. All about hormones, losing weight, more important than calories in and out, that’s my experience. As someone who has had hormone issues, fasting seems to really stabilise them and I benefit from that even when returning to eating, I build muscle and burn fat better as their is also a health improvement.

Day 9, Today is the best I’ve felt during the fast and even when I’m eating. Almost eutrophication, might be the BDNF. I did however do something different yesterday which I’m assessing. Recommendations for water intake are around 2.5 to 3litres of water per day. As my fat loss was a tad slow, I thought what if I doubled my water intake. When looking in mirror this morning I believe I noticed extra fat loss. Maybe, coincidence, maybe all in my mind but water can speed up metabolism. Could also be the body releasing water because its getting plenty. I’ll keep assessing and update, seeing fat dissappear is hugely motivating. Friday would represent a personal best, can I make it?

Hi Sid,
Sorry, but I have no clue what BDNF means  sorry but with these specialist vocabulary my English skills are on an end point

Drinking more is good, just keep an eye on salt, not that u are flushing all salt out and get into trouble.

I always drink at least 3 liters. But yesterday quiet a bit more like we were on a bike tour with the kids all day long.

My weight is stagnating right now, but that’s just hormones 🤷

I don’t know if u wanna talk about numbers, but I just ask myself what “slow” means to u and how much weight u see as “normal”.

I heard around -0.5 kg per day is normal.
And I personally was way over it the first days, and now I’m by zero, but like I said that’s just female hormones :grimacing: I have to be patient.

So Friday is your day 14? And then? Refeeding?

Hiya JaZie, your English skills are fine,no worries :slightly_smiling_face:
BDNF is brain-derived neurotrophic factor a cool chemical your brain releases when fasting, to help you find food by making you smarter, more focused and creating new synapses in your brain :brain:.
I hear you regarding hormones, I’ve had those issues since I was 11 after someone thought it was a good idea to lift me by testicles, OUCH :grinning:
I firmly believe fasting can transform your hormones and reset them over time so every fast completed should help those hormones. It makes sense really because if the body can’t access body fat because of hormonal issues then it has to improve them in order to get fuel from your fat. I’ve transformed my body and hormones through fasting so I hope you have some comfort by understanding its not permanent.

I’m on day 10 now and I’m just going to go as long as I can and when I start to see visible benefits I’m happy with. No longer than 28 days though but I’d be delighted to get to 21. Anything over 13 is a personal best and I’m aware the more you do this the stronger mentally you’ll get. If you can master your mind you are much stronger than 90% of the population. So when the tough moments come, I have a little process I go through. I firstly recognise it, tell myself it’s just a thought and feeling and that it will always pass. I had a real tough spot on the 4th day yet when I woke on the 5th I felt amazing. Every time you push through that’s when you receive the most benefits because your mind and body are recalibrating what you’re capable off.
You’re already doing awesome, keep telling yourself that🙂

Thank u for the outwitting and the expansion

Indeed I meant more just the hormones on the female cycle  there are just done days the body tries to hold all water because of the hormones. Today I just came across an YouTube video where it was even mentioned that woman should only fast on day 1-12 then pause for egg release and then fast for day 15-20 again…
But… No thanks to that roller coaster that would mean I would have to go through day 3/4 of starting a fast again and again.

As long I’m fading now, I start to behave that all that trouble around me with the kids, cleaning, cooking etc is actually helping me.
I thought it would be really hard to always be around food, bit it’s totally not.
If I compare it to my last fast, which was back at University, that was really really hard because I had so much time to realize that I’m cold or feeling hungry.

Now it’s such an relieve that is okay that the little one wants to sit on my knees while eating and I can’t reach the table myself anymore😄

Day 5 is over and I’m feeling great.

I heard quiet some times that is saver to do 21 days than longer fasts, especially when it’s not underseen by a doctor. Because when I go further the possible little mistakes by ending the fast could be harder on your buddy and digestion system.

That’s why I personally feel saber to stop at least after day 21, switch then to keto and then start again. So I hope to be mindful enough to my body without having trouble to have to start getting into ketosis again.

Hope to here from u tomorrow again!

Jennren96 are u still here? Gotten so calm.
