Hello,
My name is Kellie, and I am starting a 21 day fasting journey to better myself. Why? Because I am addicted to food AND because I want to focus on my faith. I keep feeling the number 21 is important, and I think 21 is a good fasting number. I’ve done a few 5-7 day fasts, so hopefully I will be able to complete this fast. I want better clarity and possibly a better spiritual connection with God and Jesus, so I thought I would give this extended fast a try.
My long-term goals are to help break my food addiction, lose weight, lose the bloat I have from the bad foods I’ve recently eaten (lots of fake sugars, etc), and have better understanding of myself.
I feel like my biggest struggle is going to be boredom. I am going to be alone for most of this fast, so maybe I will sleep or workout whenever I feel hungry or bored. I don’t have someone where to take the food away from me if I try to eat something, lol. Just my own will power.
My game plan is simply Water. I am going to allow coffee as well because I am in school, and the last time I tried to cut out coffee I was falling asleep while reading my homework.
Right now I feel anxious. I am nervous! I am excited!!
Once I achieve my goal I will be proud of myself. Sticking to something I didn’t think I could do always makes me amazed in myself.
I am passionate about this water fast. I have faith in myself to see this through and I will realize that food is for survival, not emotions.
I am excited about this and I hope and pray that I am able to follow through! This is so exciting!

Good luck , am also on a 21 day water fast. We got this, we can do anything we put our minds to.
fasting is an integral part of all faiths. Do you think it would be a good time to reach out to your spiritual/religious community for support too? Prayer/meditation might be a wonderful thing to fight the boredom and strengthen your bond to your faith
All the best with your 21 days fast. I recently completed 17days. There is a lot of support here so just reach out when you need encouragement. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
Day 2
I had a terrible nights sleep, so I was exhausted all morning. Went to church, but I did skip communion, just felt like the right thing to do. Today I have a paper due in one of my classes, so that will be the focus of my day, then I am going to veg on Seinfeld for the rest of the night.
Oh, so, Church today…the word BREAD must have been mentioned about 500 times. Not only was it part of the sermon, we sang the song “This is the FEAST of victory for our God”, had communion, talked about the importance of Bread, the Epistle reading was about a lady talking to Jesus about bread (way more in-depth than that, obviously, but they mentioned bread 3 times in 1 paragraph). My stomach was growing the entire service. I have a sense of humor, so I did find the entire event kind of funny. Anyway, here is to day two! Only 19 left to go! hahaha.
Hello!
I am still chugging along! Now I’m on day five. Yesterday was actually ok, no issues, wasn’t hungry at all. I had a slight headache on day 3, but it wasn’t for very long. Now I’m here, day 5. I had grandiose plans for today: Workout in the morning, mow the lawn, go shopping with friends, but I spent the morning doing homework instead. I’m also very tired. Still going shopping though!
Great job fellow faster, I’m on day 5 too ! We can do this !!
Here we are at day six. The longest I’ve ever fasted before. I was so sleepy last night, went to bed at around 11pm and ended up sleeping until 10am, only waking up at 0730 to feed the dogs their breakfast. I also make the dogs their food, so that was a pain…they get rice, chicken, peas, green beans and sweet potatoes. The veggies change depending on what’s available. To say they’re spoiled is an understatement.
Anyway, today I am still SO TIRED. I could go to sleep right now…but I have to finish my homework.
I had a dream last night that felt so real. I went to the fridge and ate mac n’ cheese with a huge sammich. I was so mad at myself in my dream. Then I had another dream that it was my birthday, someone gifted me a present that consisted of Corn, a blow torch, and a spatula. I have no idea what that means, lol.
Anyone else feeling exhausted on Day 6? Anyone else still working out? If so, what kind of workouts do you do during your fast?
You had a guilty food dream.
Sounds like the workouts are running you ragged.
I don’t do anything strenuous on extended fasts. It’s a time to let the autophagy heal your body.
Good idea.
I’m on day 6 also and Feeling pretty good … I just do casual walks and stretches when I fast, nothing too major …
1/3 of the way complete, congratulations!! You mentioned you’ve already achieved a few 7-day fasts, so you can most definitely persevere through 3 of them combined. Nice to find someone else on here who loves Seinfeld, lol! What’s your favourite episode? Looking forward to seeing your progress.
Great job all !! I love Seinfeld too ! My favorite two favorite lines are “They are real and they are spectacular!” And when the mom says to George “you treat your body like an amusement park!” Haha … gotta see those episodes to appreciate the funniness !!
Day 7
My fave Seinfeld episode would be the whole… Is he sponge worthy? hahaha. When they discontinue the sponges as birth control, lol. I remember watching that one as a kid and being so confused, lol.
Day 6 was terrible. TERRIBLE. I felt weak, my legs somehow turned to jelly, and I ended up going to bed early.
Today was not so bad. Still not hungry, not even close to as tired and weak as I felt yesterday. I actually feel really good today. Just thirsty. Hope everyone else is doing well!
Question for the group: What woe do you normally turn to when you’re not fasting? I do Carnivore normally, but will switch to a meat based keto when I have company over.
Great job on day 7! I’m glad today was better for you.
I have been either vegetarian, vegan or pescatarian for 30 years. Basically I haven’t had chicken, turkey, pig, cow, etc for 30 years. Sometimes I eat seafood/fish. I almost never eat milk, cheese, ice cream because it makes me not feel well. I don’t do this for weight loss - I do it for health, environment and animal welfare reasons. But I’ve never had a weight problem and never paid attention to carbs so my belief is everything in moderation. Except avocados- eat as many of those as I want
I loooooove avocados! I have oral allergy syndrome, so I cannot eat cherries (and I LOVED them), plums, peaches, nectarines, pears, APPLES, pineapple, pretty much any fruit from that group. I’m starting to wonder if corporations aren’t doing something to veggies now. I never used to have an issue with lettuce, now I can’t eat most brands without getting sick. The same thing with broccoli and peppers. I never used to have an issue, then in the past year BAM! I don’t have a problem with dandelion lettuce though.
I agree with you 100% !! GMO’s I believe are evil culprit. I don’t think anytime in nature would a person naturally be allergic to all those fruits/veggies. Have you tried buying organic/non-gmo and seeing if you have the same response?
I agree. For fruit it doesn’t matter, my body misinterprets pollen for the molecular structure of fruit. But! For lettuce, yes, I’ve noticed that I cannot eat any of the bagged lettuce. I am ok with the hydroponically grown lettuce in those little clam shell containers. Haven’t had an issue with those yet.
Wow ! Over the last few years I have had so many issues with what seems like every food… I was thinking the same thing, is this even food anymore ?? I’ve been gearing towards vegetarian/ vegan this past few months … I was always told that carbs will make you fat but more and more utube videos are convincing me that it’s not true … I used to feel good when I ate meat and I just don’t much now… and the animal welfare and the crap antibiotics in all the meat I’m starting to think makes us fat … but I’m still eating meat just starting to concider less of it after this fast … and maybe full vegan one day ! Great job all … day 7 for me … fast on!
I’ve been vegetarian 1/2 my life now and I’m in my mid 30s. I’m not dogmatic about these world views. However, my dad is VP of one of the largest meat companies in the world and once I learned about his work I never ate meat again.Being in a CAFO, a meat packing facility, and knowing the constant pathogen contamination (my dad is a meat pathologist) makes meat a very sad meal
I am vegetarian for religious, ethical, and especially environmental reasons. You do you!
