Warning, menstruation talk ahead.

I’m very happy about today’s 0.4 kg loss, as I got my period yesterday and usually get puffy and gain some water weight, so I was mentally preparing myself to see a gain. Maybe water fasting is helping my period issues! Usually I get cramps and have to take a painkiller, but they were so mild last night as to barely be noticeable.

My energy and mood are noticeably better today also. I’ve had pretty low energy on average throughout the fast so far. Today is the first day I have something close to normal. Still a weak feeling in my quads especially, fine to walk at a moderate pace, but not run.

I hope tomorrow’s weigh in will show me the 50’s range!

Emely, me too. I got my period today. I have lower pain not really cramps, feels a bit like a UTI, but am not giving up. If it gets bad, Ill take some pain killers with ACV and water.

Take it easy Katty, I hope you get through it! Get some rest if you can!

Yes, sometimes the cramps happen! Have you also tried potassium supplements to help with cramps? <3 Have you taken salt for the low energy? <3 You got this!

Thanks Yasemin! I have been adding salt and Elete electrolyte drops to my water. Those have some K in them, I’ll take a few extra. Weirdly enough today has been my best energy so far, no idea why!

Day 9: 59.8 kg

Yay for going under 60, and also yay for officially my longest fast ever! Since I’m not telling anyone in my life that I’m fasting I have to self-congratulate hehe. I’m making a promise to never see 60 on the scale again.

My daily weight loss has definitely slowed now, I guess in a few more days it will be easier to figure out an average daily trend without the massive glycogen loss of the first few days. I know I was storing heaps of glycogen because I was under the false impression that as a runner I needed to eat loads of carbs!

It’s day 10! Double digits  and today’s weight is 59.3 kg, 0.5 down from yesterday. I guess most people here are American so in lbs that is 130.7. I’m really happy to lose this amount today as yesterday was only 0.2 kg loss.

Yesterday I had terrible energy, just exhausted the whole day despite all I could do to drink salts etc. I figure it was just a particularly tired sort of day. Today though my energy has been much better. I had orchestra rehearsal today and I noticed that I have a lot less available breath than usual when playing my flute, meaning I can’t hold notes as long as I usually can and I have to take some extra breaths during phrases. Luckily nobody commented, if they noticed!

I have to brush my teeth about five times a day as well, it’s kind of hilarious. I can’t use Colgate any more, the mint taste is so strong it feels like it’s searing my mouth! I got some natural kids toothpaste instead and it is so much better.

Congrats. Just completed Day 11 myself. I’ve had energy fluctuations myself. I also find myself brushing teeth multiple times a day to get rid of the bacteria buildup and acetone from being in ketosis. Nice to have someone else around the same part of the journey as me.

Yeah, it’s reassuring to hear that energy fluctuations etc happen to others as well, especially since we’re further into the fast than some. Awesome job on completing day 11!! It is fun to be at a similar place to someone :slightly_smiling_face:

Day 11, my weight stayed the same, no loss and no gain. I’m a little surprised not to lose, but I know it must be a temporary water fluctuation, as it’s not possible to not lose weight when I have taken zero calories. There’s nothing else for my body to run off apart from itself! A bit disappointed all the same, since I look forward to plotting my weight on the graph! Hopefully tomorrow will show a loss again.

Today my orchestra had a 2.5 hour concert, which is tiring at the best of times but totally exhausting while fasting!! As a flautist I need a lot of air, especially to play the high notes, and by the end of some of the phrases my heart was pounding like I’d run a 100m sprint haha, it was all I could do not to pant like a dog! The good news is that my concert dress fitted much looser than last time I wore it. I hate wearing dresses or skirts (I’ve always been a tomboy) and concerts is literally the only time I ever wear one (sexist dress code :frowning:), so it was really nice to feel a bit less self conscious in my dress. I even got two compliments, not on my weight, but one person said my eyes look so big and bright, and the other said they can’t believe I’m 27 as I look 15!! (which is probably an exaggeration haha but still was nice to hear) and I’m sure both of these compliments are due to the effect of fasting.

Nice to see a fellow traveler doing so well. Keep it up. I’m on Day 13 myself. Regarding the lack of weight loss don’t stress about it. I had a day where I had 0 weight loss. Then the following day I lost 4lbs. Regarding the fatigue factor, I’m running into that myself for the last 3 days running. I noticed it on my walks. I think its the fact that we’re not used to running on fat for more strenuous activities like the African bush tribe that go without food up to 10 days while on the hunt that scientists usually cite when talking about fasting. Just have to adjust as you noted. Keep it up!

Thanks for this man!!! That totally makes sense about not being used to running on fat. I know that’s true about me for sure as I’ve been a carb-loading runner for the last few years!! Looking forward to truly fat-adapt and make some endurance gains like those hunters! And I just weighed in for day 12, and I’m down 0.6 kg, so temporary plateau broken, yay!!

Day 12 stats:

58.6 kg/129.2 lbs BMI 20.0
Weight lost so far: 8.5 kg/18.7 lbs

Do you happen to have a link to that study you mentioned about the African bush tribe? I’d like to read it!

It wasn’t a study. The tribe is referred to as an example of how an actual people in today’s world still are metabolically active (ie can actively switch from glucose to fat burning) like are ancestors.

Day 13, again no loss or gain so still at 58.6 kg/129.2. Hopefully tomorrow gets a big loss like yesterday.

Nothing much new to report. Energy seems to be consistently fairly low, and the only exercise I can manage is slow walks in the park, but I might try swimming and see how that goes. It’s OK because I know I’m still adapting to living off my stored fat instead of eating! I also read that the toxins that get released when you lose fat can make you feel pretty crap so that might be an aspect.

Day 14, happy to report an 0.6 kg/1.3 lbs loss after yesterday’s plateau. That’s the second time I’ve maintained for a day then dropped 0.6 kg. Wonder if this will become a pattern? I guess that averages out to 0.3 kg/0.6 lbs a day, which is about what I’d expect. I guess my body just loses weight this way?

This is a double milestone day to self-celebrate, because 1: I have lost exactly 20 lbs in 14 days (though this is including the water weight of course) and 2: I am now out of the 20’s for BMI, at 19.8. Yay!!!

Yesterday I was so shattered in the afternoon but got some energy back in the evening, drank some salt water and went for a nice evening walk. My pattern seems to be higher energy in the morning and evening with a big slump in the afternoon. This used to happen to me when eating too, but I always thought it was due to lunch. Apparently it’s not, since I’m obviously not having lunch! Wonder why that is…I hope it will improve as I keto-adapt.

I’ve had 2 plateaus during my current fast. 1st happened on Day 8 where I lost 0 then the next day dropped 4lbs. 2nd began on Day 13 where my weight loss slowed to 1lb, next day 0 and today went back to 2lbs lost.
