It is weird how that happens!! I guess our bodies are organic so they don’t lose in a linear fashion, no matter how much I’d prefer to lose a tidy 0.6 lb every day!

Yep. When I was a Certified Personal Trainer, that’s what I used to tell clients. Not to focus on the daily weight but to look at the overall trend. For my clients we did weekly weigh-ins instead of the dailies.

Day 15, another 0.4 kg/0.8 lbs down! Honestly I wasn’t expecting to lose much today given yesterday’s bigger loss but I’ll take it

I can hardly believe I’ve done 15 days!! I remember on days 2 or 3 it felt like forever. I guess every journey does start with a single step. I’m excited to see where I end up!

I went swimming yesterday for about half an hour and found it so much easier on my body than walking has been for some reason, plus it uses my arms too which is great. I’ll have to fit swimming regularly into my routine, I’ve been missing my running so it’s good to have something else to replace it!

Good job! Congrats. I prefer walking over swimming but I attribute that to being scarred for life from high school when I was on both water polo and swim team. God I hated having to bicycle from home to the pool for 7am swim practice and then 2pm water polo practice! LOL

7am practice as a teenager? Yeah, that’s hell :joy:

Day 16! Down another 0.4kg/0.8lbs. I’m actually quite surprised about losing today because I didn’t do any exercise yesterday and I also had pretty broken sleep, probably 3-4 hours total. So yay for losing again!

I’ve been feeling kind of nauseous today and yesterday, especially when I drink water. I’ve tried both salted and plain water. It’s fine when I’m lying down but not so much fun standing or walking. I’m not sure why this is, but I hope it goes away soon. I’m considering having some bone broth later, to see if that helps. I don’t count this as breaking the fast, as per Jason Fung. I’ve not been having anything but water for the last week or so, but I also heard that drinking bone broth every 3 days or so can help avoid refeeding issues. Not sure anymore where I heard that, but I think one cup of bone broth can’t hurt for weight loss, even if it turns off autophagy for a couple of hours.

Do you think exercise helps loose the weight faster?

I think it must, because you’re using more calories when you exercise, and forcing the body to burn fat for fuel as it has run out of carbs by now. But if extended fasting and carb-depleted, you have to be really careful not to overdo it, as if you go too hard (e.g. running), you can trigger the body to break down muscle instead of fat which can cause rhabdomyolysis… I’ve done this in a previous fast, it was extremely painful and I actually had to break the fast because of it. I just do gentle walking and swimming, and am careful not to raise my heart rate out of the “fat burning zone”.

So you think using the elliptical machine would be too much?

Honestly I’ve never used one and I don’t know, it’s probably different for everyone. But whatever you decide to do, go easy and track your heart rate if possible.

First, Congratulations!!
What kind of exercise you practice or do?

Thank you! I do walking and swimming.

Day 17, lost another 0.4kg/0.8lbs. Yay!! I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop but I’ll be so happy if this keeps up consistently.

I went home at lunch time yesterday and slept, and thankfully my nausea has been gone since then. I had a lovely walk in the park in the evening, it’s been so gorgeous and warm here in NZ. Summer is nearly here! Then today I went swimming. I may have slightly overdone it as my heart’s been pounding since, but I’m resting now and sipping salted water and feel a lot better. I have to be careful with exercise, as I’m used to pushing it, but I have to be super gentle and patient. I know my body is already working hard to access and detox my fat stores.

Current stats are now
56.8 kg/125.2 lbs BMI 19.4
Weight lost so far: 10.3 kg/22.7 lbs

Day 18. I got a plateau today! The other shoe dropped :joy: but I don’t mind, I had a good streak and with any luck I’ll lose again tomorrow.

Hang there. Broke my 3-day plateau today.

Awesome!! Glad to hear your plateau finally broke. Yep I’m hanging!! How are you doing? I wasn’t hungry for last week but yesterday and today I keep getting hunger pangs which is a bit annoying. But I know they’re not “true hunger” as according to Dr Herbert Shelton’s book that is felt in the throat and mouth, not the stomach.

Yesterday was my toughest day. I think its because my body’s finally getting to decades-old belly fat and my body’s getting rid of all the nasty toxins that’s been accumulating there. Thank goodness it was Saturday because all I could do was lie in bed.
Today was much better. Just back from my daily walk and I was able to complete it without a break. Another piece of evidence of how bad yesterday was when I had to take multiple breaks during yesterday’s jaunt. What’s the name of Dr Shelton’s book out of curiousity’s sake?

That makes sense, I’m glad you’re better today. I also had a rough time yesterday afternoon and evening and started dreaming about eating lol. But hoping for better today! I’m going to go swimming again as there’s a rainstorm and don’t feel like walking in it! Dr Shelton’s book is Fasting and Sunbathing and you can read it free online here http://www.loveandtruth.net/shelton-fasting.html it’s an older book (1930s revised in the 50s) so some of the science is out of date or not yet proven, but mostly it’s extremely good and useful. He fasted thousands of patients. There’s a lot of stuff about fasting in animals too but you can skip those parts, however I find it all quite fascinating. If you read it, I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts. It’s my go to for fasting advice.

Today I weigh 56.5 kg/124.6 lbs which is a drop of 0.3 kg/0.6 lbs. Glad the plateau was temporary! As I mentioned yesterday was a challenge. I was volunteering at a running race in the morning and it was quite tiring. The volunteers get to eat the post race breakfast of apple crumble and custard and damn it looked good :joy: then it was a friends birthday in the evening and everyone was having amazing looking croissant sandwiches with brie and basil, and ice cream…I was suffering lol. But I didn’t break! Hoping today will be better. Not sure why I was desiring food yesterday as I haven’t really cared for a while! Maybe it was just being tired and low energy and it’s a fairly natural instinct to go for food when you feel like that I suppose.

Day 20, weight 124 lbs/56.3 kg. Down 0.3 kg again.

Today I feel like crap haha. My breath which had gotten a lot better has now gotten worse again, and I have to brush every couple of hours, it tastes so bad. I’m exhausted and get dizzy every time I stand up, and I get cold very easily. I think these are all signs of a deeper detox phase and a possible healing crisis. It’s difficult to go through these things when I work full time, as all I want to do is lie down and rest. I’ve taken quite a few hours of sick leave over the last few days… It’s not really a great thing when it affects work.

I don’t want to stop the fast for food reasons, but for energy reasons! I’m tired of being so tired! I miss being able to exercise and I usually enjoy my job but it’s become such an effort now. But I won’t stop yet. As I’m detoxing more today, I must still have work on my health to do. I’ll try and rest today and hope tomorrow is better.
