I’ve done a number of fasts, but I learned early on that my body doesn’t respond well to strict water fasts. I need to supplement with electrolytes or I get sick. I’m an extended faster, once I’m in the groove, I find it easier than shorter fasts. I’ve done 4 x 21day fasts, one 24day, and numerous 10+. I’m on day 4 of a 24 (hopefully) day fast currently. I tend to listen to my body and if it tells me to stop, I do. My question is, does anyone supplement with potassium? I take one per day, but it’s 99mg and research tells me that’s not enough. I don’t want to take too much, as that can cause some major complications. Or is everyone here a strict water faster?
Electrolyte fast
We encourage that everyone take the required supplement to maintain healthy electrolyte levels: salt, potassium & magnesium. We also discourage talk or use of “dry” fasting as there’s no scientific proof that it provides any additional benefits that you can’t get from water fasting.
I’ve been here since Yas established the online forum. So from October 27th of last year to June 12th, I’ve done a 40-day and 3 21-days. 21-days seems to be the sweet spot for me.
I use a stevia leaf sweetened based electrolyte powder when I water fast. Works great, definitely helps me ride out the fast.
I usually add 1/2 tsp pink salt and a tbsp of a liquid mineral supplement derived from deep sea water (mostly magnesium) to approx 800ml of sodastream carbonated water. I also take a calcium, magnesium, potassium and biotin supplement. I know it’s not near enough potassium. Does anyone use a salt substitute to get your potassium in? What do you all use?
I should say I drink about 3-4 of these bottles per day.
I use Nutricost’s Potassium Citrate. 1 cap at 99mg. That’s enough for my needs.
