David's fasting journal

Figured since I’ve been lurking here and posting on the Facebook group that I should join the discussion here. This first post will serve as somewhat of an introduction. I’m 30 and from Scotland. I’ve been doing IF and some longer fasts with limited success over the past 6 months. It was difficult with my girlfriend at the time being opposed to it and me constantly caving and eating when and what she wanted. Recently broke up so decided to focus on it again for all the health benefits and to drop some weight.

At the moment I’m going under medical observation so cannot work. This makes fasting easier but boredom also more prevalent. Hoping to use this group for accountability. I completed a fast from last Sunday morning until Wednesday evening. Then again from Thursday until Saturday. Currently I’m on a fast that begun Saturday evening and is planned until Wednesday lunchtime. I may extend further depending on how I feel.

Thanks for increasing your participation. It helps the entire community when more people participate and support each other.

A couple questions I hope you don’t mind answering:

  1. What was your longest fast?
  2. Now that the social reason for breaking your fast is gone, do you still have cravings and broken any fasts since?

A suggestion:

  1. For the boredom, is there a new hobby a new skill or a something you’d like to learn that you could do to fill up the time. Personally, I’m working on a book and I’m preparing to participate in this year’s World Championship of Public Speaking.

Let me know if you have any questions. FYI: I just started a new Daily Journal chronicling a just started 21 day fast that you might be interested in following.

Hey. Of course I don’t mind answering at all.

  1. Just checked my tracking app and my longest one is 89 hours - which was the one I did last week.

  2. Not so much in the way of cravings. I drink “snake juice” or water with sodium, magnesium and potassium to the rest of us. I find that tends to help me a lot. Haven’t broken a fast unplanned yet, that being said I’ve been playing it by ear for how long my fasts were going to be.

Definitely being trying to focus on hobbies. I’ve started doing DDP yoga again. Although I’m aware I may need to decrease intensity while fasting. I’m going to use the rest of the time to try and do some other hobby things I’ve wanted to do.

I’ll definitely be following your journey. I’ve read through your 40 day and rebuild journals. Great source of information and inspiration.

Thank you. The current one, as you may have guessed, I’ll be experimenting the format with.

Coming to the end of day 3. At the moment I’m scheduled to break the fast tomorrow but I’ll see how I feel. I’d like to beat my longest fast which would mean going until evening. The thought of saying I’ve managed a week long fast is also appealing so if I still feel as good tomorrow I think I’ll continue.

Currently feeling pretty good. The snake juice takes care of electrolytes and apart from my sleep pattern being all over the place I’m feeling pretty good. I’ve worked out two of the three days as well. Got a little light headed during today’s workout but just took a break and breathed through it.

Made a big batch of beef bone broth as well. Going to freeze it so I’ve got some when I need it for breaking fasts. Made about 6 litres for less than £4 so definitely good value. Will update tomorrow with my final decision on extending the fast.

I’m glad you’re feeling well so far! Great job in planning a good refeed! :ok_hand:

Broke my fast today as planned although a few hours earlier than intended because I couldn’t sleep. Going to eat today and tomorrow and then start another fast although maybe just a short one. I’ve probably pushed a bit too hard with diving into fasting and working out the past fortnight and I need to be cautious of burnout. Feeling good though and can definitely see fasting being a lifelong practice now.

Yes, its a learning process in how to customize it to fit your specific situation.

After breaking my fast yesterday I then began another one immediately. I need to get better with my refeeds being more healthy and aligned with the weight loss goal. Coming to the end of a day fasted. The plan at the minute is to fast until Saturday then do a keto refeed and then do another few days. I’ve got a night out next weekend that’ll involve alcohol so I’ll reintroduce carbs in time for that.

Sounds good. The key is making sure its planned breaks as Yas’ likes to point out which I totally agree with.

Just past the end of day two. Feeling pretty good just now. Was at my friend’s house playing games and the other four people ordered pizza. Zero temptation or hunger pangs for me which is nice. The plan at the moment is to break the fast tomorrow or Sunday but I’ll see how I’m feeling. I would like to break the four day barrier sometime soon just to experience it. Especially as I consider longer fasts in future

That’s great! Building your way up to your goals! You’ll get to that four day mark soon, I have no doubt that you can do it!

It’s a great game plan to take it slowly and reach small targets to feel confidence from each success!
I’ve learnt that from my journey, where I always put up these huge goals and felt too overwhelmed and got devastated each time I “failed” to get there, instead of building my confidence from the small successes I did and not get caught up in the overwhelming trap!

Just passed the three day mark and into day four. Feeling pretty good still. I bought stuff to make cream of mushroom soup to break my fast but have yet to use it. Considering making it and freezing it for later and continuing the fast. My longest fast so far is 89 hours and this is a great opportunity to pass that. That’ll be the goal for now and I’ll revaluate how I feel then.

Good job taking it day by day. Earlier this month we had a first timer take it day by day. She passed her initial 7 day goal and finished at 10 days.

So day four is done and dusted. I’ve surpassed my longest fast. Feeling alright at the minute so I’ll again see how I feel tomorrow. I’d like to hit a week fast at some point and this may be just the opportunity to do it.

You can do this! :muscle::fire:

Broke my fast after 106 hours. My stomach has definitely shrunk because a meal I normally would’ve finished I got halfway through. Should be great in the long term. Refeed today and probably tomorrow and then maybe a few days of 48’s or omad depending how I feel

Forgot to update yesterday. I decided against another day of eating and restarted my fast yesterday morning. Will continue that fast through today and then see how I feel tomorrow. Feeling great right now though

Nearly at the end of day 3. Will be eating tomorrow. I have a lovely fillet steak with my name on it. The weekend I might be sparse on updates. My plan is to go omad until Tuesday next week then get back to 48’s and 72’s

Broke my fast yesterday early morning and went straight back into a 48. Will break with a keto meal tomorrow then introduce carbs on Monday before I’ve got an evening out planned. Feeling a little hungry today but nothing too bad.
