First, regaining some weight is normal as your depleted glycogen stores in your liver and muscles get replenished. This is natural and healthy. Its your glycogen stores that keep you from starving at night and is the primary source of energy for movement and exercise. For myself, its anywhere from 10 to 11 pounds of “water weight”.
Second, when you lose weight your body will strive to get back to what you weighed before, especially if you were at that weight for a long period of time. This is called the Body Set Point theory. The body is always striving to maintain balance (aka homeostasis). Anytime you are at a certain weight range for a period of time the body will consider this as the healthy weight range for you. The challenge is re-setting the body’s set point to a lower range. Dieting has proven to fall short as your body will adjust your metabolism to stay in its healthy range. Eat too much and your metabolism speeds up to burn off the extra calories. Eat too little and your metabolism slows down to burn less calories.
For myself, I’m resetting my body’s set point through my own structured protocol. Fast-Refeed-Workout and repeat.
Here you can see the progress I’ve made with a 40-day and two succeeding 21-da fasts.
I’m currently on Day 18 of a 30-day workout phase and will start my 3rd 21-day fast on the 23rd of this month.
Hope this helps.
