I have started and stopped more times then I can count now to prep for my wedding coming up. It is now crunch time and needing to get focused and hoping to find support and accountability here! ( Please ). My goal is to do a water fast for 2 weeks in hopes to drop 10 lbs ASAP for my wedding at the end of January. This is so important to me because I want to feel fit and lean and beautiful for my special day! Any tips and tricks to overcome the mental struggles would be greatly appreciated! Like I said it’s crunch time and no wiggle room for error this time! Thank you fellow water fasters!

Welcome to the community!
Your 1st 3 days of water fasting you will lose a significant amount of water weight. HOWEVER, if you have no previous experience expect to encounter headaches and possibly nausea especially if you have a carb/sugar addiction. Make sure you have the ability to rest or take a break during these episodes. Also they are “transition” symptoms as your body switches from glucose (sugar) to adipose (fat) burning.
If you can get to Day 4 it will get easier as you get deeper into Ketosis (fat burning process) the ketones produced will start supressing the “hunger” hormone Ghrelin. Production spikes during your normal meal times so expect that. If you can tough it out, the hunger pangs start going away.
Around Day 5 and onwards you will find yourself needing less sleep. That’s because energy will be freed up that was previously used for digesting food and also because your brain runs more efficiently on ketones than glucose. So don’t freak or develop anxiety about it.
Also you will need these 3 required supplements to maintain your electrolytes. If you don’t or aren’t taking enough, you could experience vomiting and/or faintness. The 3 are:
- Salt (I take Himalayan salt aka Pink Salt - in the US I get it at Costco for about $7)
- Potassium
- Magnesium
Some people add the salt to their water. I don’t I just take it straight as I like to joke “I’m NOT a fish.”
In terms of exercise, fasting by its nature is stressful. Therefore, the only exercise you should be doing is a daily walk. For myself, I did between 1 to 2 miles. I usually do it first thing in the morning as it serves double duty as my daily meditation.
Make sure you inform your doctor and run it by him/her. I don’t know your medical history and there are certain types that shouldn’t be doing this for health reasons. I.E. Pregnant women, people with eating disorders, etc.
Hope this helps!
Let me know if you have any further questions. You have anything to add @Anna?
Hi!! Congratulations on your big day! Make sure to do it in a safe way, you will look gorgeous NO MATTER WHAT! Give yourself some time to feel good and do a re-feed, I wouldn’t want you to be lightheaded on your big day <3!!!
I’ve failed my way to success! I was so tired of starting over and my motivation to get a new start to the upcoming year so strong, so I pulled through!
Like said above, the first days can be exhaustingly challenging, both mentally and physically, but when your “why” is stronger than continuing your current lifestyle, it’s gonna get easier.
And congratulations! What an amazing way to start a new decade!
