What IS fasting?!?

So many definitions of fasting. What do we all have in mind?

It seems we all are:

  1. Delaying our next meal to trigger ever greater fasting benefits.
  2. Completely eliminating snacking, incidental eating.
  3. Rejecting–at least temporarily–the ambition that good health is achieved while following modern norms of eating, thus experiencing some tension among those who love us.
  4. Becoming very regimented, very purposeful in forecasting what our future meals should be like.
  5. Remaining seperated from food’s influence on our lives to see what happens, and maybe become honest and introspective about our relationships and other areas of this life.
  6. On our own eating schedule.
