Van’s July Fasting Journal

Yeah, I took a look at Longo’s plan and decided it was not for me. Some of that just didn’t make sense to me. Why go through the torture of a very low calorie diet? Why not just fast? After all, I have been there done that over and over. Anybody else do HCG or the cabbage soup diet or the three-day boiled egg and red wine diet?

Two things I consider important for myself: (1) deal with carbohydrate addiction and (2) eat a nutrient-dense diet so I don’t yearn for the junk. I also find amino acid supplementation helpful.

What I am doing right now is fasting every other day, and on weights workouts days, eat carnivore. Sunday is keto/carnivore. I may adapt it later, but right now my workouts are so demanding, I don’t know that fasting is a good idea or even possible for me.

@Van You are right that you need a plan. @Yasemin is very good about that.

You can figure it out. :+1:

@Van 48 hours is typically not a huge concern on the refeed. Having said that, if you begin now making refeed plans for longer fasts those will go so much easier.

I’m now huge on having bone broth on hand at all times.

Research is key too! And if you’re going to spend money, I’d suggest spending it here on those weekly motivation challenges. Or on books.

For me, I found if I dig hard enough I can get more information sorted out and whittle down what I can handle.

Here’s a gift for you today. It’s time sensitive on the share so be sure to watch it soon. :slightly_smiling_face:

Fasted for 60 hours and ended my fast at 12pm yesterday. Didn’t overdo it with the food. Very happy with myself

Started my daily fast at 8pm yesterday.

After much research and planning… going to go on this experiment to see if it will push me into Ketosis. Will check my urine regularly. Going to still do OMAD but modifying my macros and protein intake.

Today is Day 1.

Just took my before pictures and videos today. Looking forward to taking my after pictures and videos when I reach my goal weight!!!

About those urine strips-- they only show what spills over in the urine, so if you are using ketones for energy, the strip won’t necessarily get into the purple range. I prefer a blood test myself, but I have mislaid my meter!

Oh! Thank you for the info @donna!!! Is it still a good indicator of Ketosis???

How do I get a simple blood test for this?

Gain/loss from yesterday: No gain/loss - win!!!
Gain/loss since July 1st: Down 1.4 lbs

Was so busy yesterday. Trying to clean up caseload before I am off on mini vacation up north. Last day of work today - can’t wait!!! Will be up north from Thursday to Sunday. Already have my game plan in place when I am up north!!!

Had to upgrade my phone to Samsung S10 yesterday - despised my iPhone. Never again. Took me several hours to organize my new phone. And by the time I finished everything, it was 9:45pm - totally forgot to eat. So I had a very late dinner yesterday evening. Ate too much and went over my macros and got kicked out of Ketosis. But the good thing is that I didn’t gain any weight today so that’s considered a victory for me.

Starting my experiment again today. Day 1.

You are welcome. I pretty much consider urine strips useless for our purposes. I have a Keto Mojo meter that tests with a finger prick.

As long as you cut the carbs, and therefore the glucose, your body will move into producing ketones for energy and your blood sugar will stabilize. A blood ketone meter will also tell you if what you ate kicked you of ketosis.

Outside of a meter, there are generally typical signs of ketosis including keto breath and peeing a lot. Unless you are diabetic, you don’t have to worry about it. And diabetics monitor blood glucose anyway.

Ok. This experiment of mine is quite eye opening!!! How is it possible to be losing weight while eating more than 100g of carbs??? Last evening’s dinner was half of a medium vegan pizza. About 149g of carbs yesterday. Interesting stuff!!!

Watch out for the next couple of days. Sometimes that can take a day or two to show up. Hoping that’s not the case for you - just based on my personal experience when I did hard core low carb for over 5 months.

I’d love for you to see 158 by the end of next week! Let’s go!

At my thyroid doctor’s office yesterday, I noticed they’re selling Longo’s fasting mimicking diet. And I’ve had great success with hcg in the past and highly recommend it. But I did start thinking, why not just fast? And so far it’s working and it’s easier to eat nothing than to eat 500 calories. And I like that I can go on and off a fast at will vs. having to stay on hcg for 30-40 days at a time. I am using a variation of my hcg P3 method to break my fasts and that seems to be working extremely well as far as weight re-gain. I believe I did try the cabbage soup diet back in high school:)

I’m with you - easier to not eat at all than eat just 500 calories. That would just make me more hungry all the time.

Mom did the cabbage soup diet back in the 70’s.

I’ve done egg fasts for a week, but not an egg and wine diet.

You are right. I am going to see if it will go up with my experiment.

I am going up north tomorrow morning. Won’t be able to weigh in until Monday morning. I am going to stick to my experiment while I’m up there. This diet and way of eating is giving me some flexibility while I am up north. I will still check my urine to see if I am in Ketosis.

Yes… I can’t wait to reach 158 lbs!!! It was there around this afternoon while I was fasting. I can’t wait to reach the 150s zone and STAY there!!!

LOL!!! Skip the eggs, let’s just do the wine fast!!!
