Van’s Fasting Journey

OH, I totally relate to feeling so guilty around what I eat…I have some weird relationship with food…I eat, and think, even if it is healthy (like cucumbers and homemade hummus), “this will make me gain weight.” How effed-up is that? That is one of my goals to achieve via making fasting a part of my life-style. So, we are in this together. You are not alone at all.

Up 0.4 lbs from yesterday

Total weight loss since June 7th: 5.8 lbs

Fasted for about 21 hours and ate about 1,197 calories yesterday.

I have a strong feeling that my set point is around 159-161 lbs mark. This is where I start to get VERY frustrated and then give up.

This time around… even if it takes 2 weeks or more… I am going to stick to this way of fasting and eating to get past this plateau.

Going up north this evening. Plan is to break my fast, eat dinner and then head up north for the weekend. Packing all my food for tomorrow as I still want to maintain under 1200 calories. Plan for Sunday morning is to drink black coffee until I get home.

Total weight loss since June 7th: 4 lbs

It was a beautiful weekend up north with the boating. Diet went off course for Saturday and Sunday - a beer and a handful of pistachios here and there and BOOM - the calories start to stack up.

Going up north again this weekend. And back to the drawing board to plan what I will eat for this upcoming weekend so I can stay on course with diet when up north.

Will most likely get some diet/zero calorie sodas so that I am not tempted to drink beer or other drinks while up there. Will pack more veggies and hummus so when I feel like munching on things late night, there will be healthy snacks readily available for me.

Xanthan gum came into mail last week. Gonna try low calorie salted caramel popcorn. And if that works out, will pack some popcorn for myself so I don’t reach for those delicious salted pistachios!!!

I’d recommend looking at non-HFCS alternatives for the snacks and diet soda. But, whatever works for you is what matters.

Thanks for your advice @Compdude! Decided to scratch the popcorn idea. Just measured out my portion for the pistachios to fit into my caloric intake while up north. And feeling much much better about the snacking when up there. Gonna try to focus on more water intake but if I am tempted for beer, will reach for the Diet Coke instead.

Up 1.8 lbs from yesterday.

Total weight loss since June 7th: 2.2 lbs

Ate A LOT of sodium and carbs yesterday. And very surprised that I didn’t balloon up to 166 lbs.

Month of June is coming to an end and I am disappointed that I haven’t reached my weight loss goal this month. But what can I do? I just need to keep trying.

I am currently feeling sane and happy with this way of fasting and eating. The one thing that I wanted to accomplish was the food obsession and binging. The food obsession has turned into a healthy habit of proactively planning for meals, counting my calories, and knowing what a healthy portion looks like. Even though I didn’t accomplish the weight loss goal this month, I gained knowledge in learning to eat healthy. My fridge is stocked with healthy veggies and low calorie nutrient dense food. No longer craving processed food and sugar like before. Carbs intake is there but monitored at a healthy portion.

I started my fasting window last evening at 8pm.

I have this crazy idea… I am thinking of bringing my scale onto the boat. I know it sounds crazy but weighing myself every morning gives me accountability and reminds me on a daily basis on why I am doing what I am doing.

I have looked back on the years and those moments and times when I stopped weighing myself, that’s when I started to gain the massive amount of weight.

I will see how I feel about taking my scale with me. It wouldn’t hurt me. Might make me look crazy. But whatever…

I prefer you have the beer. The DC is loaded with HFCS.

You can have a look at the low carb beers too!

There is no HFCS in Diet Coke or diet sodas in general. However, there is aspartame and artificial sweeteners are absolutely horrible for you (as is HFCS). I suggest unsweetened ice tea, seltzer water (NOT the ones with artificial sweetener or flavoring). Spindrift is a great brand.

Your right. It’s in regular Coca Cola. I got mixed up there. Thanks for clarifying. Either way, both are bad for you.

Get a soda stream and call it a day! lol, I’ve been using mine for about 10 years now.

Typically with their knock off red bull diet syrup with my vodka - but gave that up for now. Just easy to make fizzy water on demand.

Thanks everyone for your insight. Whether it’s beer or DC, I will see how I feel this coming long weekend. I rarely drink soda or beer so I will be ok. Artificial sweeteners are only dangerous if it’s consumed in extremely large dosages, which is like 8-10 cans every single day. I will most likely have one beer or one soda for the whole weekend. I really like my water, especially during the summer months. I like to keep hydrated!!!

Just realized tomorrow is July 1st. Will start fresh tomorrow with a July journal.

Thanks everyone for all your support and insight. I enjoy reading everyone’s journal every morning… it really inspires me and gives me the daily dose of motivation that I need every single day.
