Troy's 5-Day Journal

Hello. As the title states, my name is Troy, and I’m starting a five day water fast. The longest fast I have done is 44 hours.

I’m doing this for a few reasons. Firstly, I want to give my diet a little reset and kick off a plant-based whole food diet once I’m eating again. Secondly, I have some sort of mystery growth/swelling in my left maxillary sinus that I’m looking to see if fasting helps. It’s something I’ve lived with for a few years, and I’m tired of the asymmetrical appearance and discomfort it causes. Finally, I’m looking to clear up a bit of the noise in my head and find a balance in my life. I’ve grown a lot in the past four months, but I’m hitting a wall. Old problems in my behavior have started to come back, and I’m not happy with where I’m at.

I’m cautiously optimistic. I’ve started and stopped this fast many times, and part of why I’m posting here is to have some accountability. I know that I’ll want to be able to come here and say that all is on track. I work the next couple days at a moderately active job, and I know that may be a challenge. But by the third day, I know I’ll have energy. And on the fourth and fifth, I’ll do nothing but rest.

Anyways, I’m happy to be here. Wish me luck, and I’ll check in tomorrow.

I’m the resident “graybeard” due to having completed the longest water fast of 40 days.

Doing a fasta to reset your eating habits is a great idea, I’ve done this in the past as well. Regarding problematic behaviour and a noisy head: fasting is definitely a great tool to combat it.

Just checking in for the day. I’m at 26 hours now, and settling in for bed.

Fasting was easy today, and I think a good portion of that is due to the fact that I worked. It kept my mind off the fact that I wasn’t eating. I work tomorrow as well, and I just hope that I don’t get too tired. As of right now, I feel like I have a decent amount of energy.

So, to summarize, no issues yet and the fast is going on strong. Thank you to all of you for the warm welcome.
