Tim C.Journal (48 Isn't Too Late)

I just got off work. It was a good night. There was only one time early in that night that I had a whiff of a plate of Spicy Garlic Wings that made my stomach growl. For a split second I wanted to dash to the nearest corner and gorge myself. I stayed strong though. I’m definitely going to put those wings on layaway.

I’m going into work at noon on the 1st so I probably won’t be able to check-in till later in the day/night.

I got home from work about three hours ago. I walked into the house and the whole place smelled like Hot Pockets. Tired and I guess hungry? Part of me feels like I should be hungry so I’m really not sure. I know they smelled so damn good. I took a deep breath and chose a cold shower followed by a hot relaxing bath instead of giving in to my my urges…

I’m not sure if I’m tired from getting very little sleep or fasting. I’'m nearing the home stretch of my goal of completing my first 7 Day Fast. I’m not sure if I’ll stop or continue on. I bought some Kettle & Fire Bone Broth to help my transition back to food. I don’t know what I’ll choose.

My Blood Glucose level continues to mystify and frustrate me.

I’m inspired by my Ketone levels.

I’m working an early morning shift tomorrow (11/2/21019) so I’ll probably decide what I’ll do after I get home. I’m thinking I may continue so that I can further lower my Glucose levels since that was one of my main reasons for fasting. It’s a lot to think about and sleep on.

Are you on any diabetes medications or taking insulin?

When I had Insurance that was covering the cost of prescriptions I was taking Janumet and Jardiance. That was about three years ago though. I have an HSA Insurance plan now and can’t afford the cost.
I’ve been trying to control my blood sugar through Intermittent fasting and the Keto diet. It’s been a roller coaster ride though. I always seem to sabotage myself. This time has been different. Maybe it’s the journaling or this forum?1? Whatever the reason is, I’m seeing better results than I ever have.

Before I started my program back in August 9th, I was taking daily insulin injections and a diabetes medication. Even though I was told I had my diabetes “under control” my health was deteriorating. In one year I gained 20lbs. My blood pressure rose to 191/103 and my Chronic Kidney Disease progressed from Stage 2 to Stage 3a. So I said screw it and started asking questions.

First of all I recommend you read “The Diabetic Code” by Dr. Jason Fung. He’s a kidney doctor with the University of Toronto. He got tired of not being able to help his patients get better and started asking questions. He found that the common belief that type 2 is a chronic progressive disease, fancy medical terminology meaning we hae no cure is instead “curable”. That’s because in studies of diabetic patients that had bariatric surgery the majority of them reversed their diabetes. So he asked himself is there a way of getting the same benefit without the surgery.

I’ve used his research to find other researchers to create my own custom treatment protocol. It was from own studies I immediately dropped my insulin without telling my doctor. He’s the type who still believes in the old medical establishment thinking of diabetes. When I saw him 3 weeks into my program, he still was skeptical but he had to accept the results and “officially” blessed me dropping the insulin. Shortly thereafter I also dropped the diabetes medication.

From looking over your documentation you are doing great. From my own experience don’t focus so much on the daily blood glucose reading but instead of the overall trend. For me, my own blood glucose is ranging from the 60s to the low 70s after the initial water weight loss period. I just submitted my weekly status report to the Endocrinologist at USC and he told me I’m doing great.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I’m so proud of you Tim! The mental part of the journey is SO important that’s why I created the forum and that’s why I’ve been pushing people so much to come and journal!

That way you are aware of your emotions and you are aware of your eating and you have something concrete to hold you accountable!

How are you feeling so far?:pray::pray:

Thanks, I’ll definitely check out “The Diabetic Code” once I finish his book on Fasting. I’ve been watching several of his interviews on YouTube. I was shocked to learn Insulin causes weight gain. There is so much misinformation out there. You really have to do your own due diligence instead of following the herd blindly.

Feeling good. Trying to decide if I should continue since I reached my original goal.

Well I’ve surpassed my original goal of a 7 Day Fast. After my bath I weighed myself for the first time since I started my water fast. My current weight is 381.6 lbs. I’m not sure how much of that is water weight, but DAMN!

I was considering to end my fast today, but after seeing those results I really feel motivated to keep going.

I guess I’'ll sleep on it.

If you feel good no reason not to keep going. On the other hand, taking the time to celebrate the win is also good motivation for the next longer one. Before my current fast I did a 4, 5 and 7 day.

I have today off and I’ve been reading more of Dr Fung’s book on Fasting. Looking at the data I;ve tracked and comparing it to what I have read it seems like I should have done more reading and research going into my Water Fast. If I did I wouldn’t of eaten all the crazy food that I did that were loaded with tons of carbs. It seems like I spent almost half of my Fast depleting my glycogen reserves before my body could enter into Ketosis. I’m going to put more thought into my next Fast which I’ll start on November 12 and I’ll do a 14 day fast. I’m transitioning to Intermediate Fasting this week and I want to celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday and Veterans Day.

I am also going to monitor my blood glucose and ketones to track the data and compare it to my fast. I’m also curious to see what weight loss I’m able to maintain.

Well, one thing I haven’t read or head anyone talk about is don’t eat extremely spicy food right after an extended water fast. To say I’m is some serious pain is putting it lightly. I’m in agony. Oh, lord! I’ll never do that again

Instead of OMAD I’m going to do a 3 Day Fast because we have plans on Thursday.

:joy: It’s a learning process.

…it’s a “burning” process!

When I came home from work last night and took my Blood Glucose reading I was at 94 which was a dramatic drop.

Getting ready for work and I took my readings. I’m having a hard time understanding why my Blood Glucose fluctuates so much. I received the book that Compdude recommended: The Diabetes Code. Hopefully, It’ll help me understand what is going on in my body.

I really like the idea of “Delayed Gratification”. It has helped me put things into perspective. After doing my 7 Day Fast I realized that I really could achieve whatever I set my mind to. I’m so excited at what the future brings. Accomplishing this one small goal in my life has started me re-examining past beliefs and dreams that I thought were unattainable.

FYI: Once I got past the required glycogen depletion period my blood glucose levels have fluctuated in a stable range in the 60s to low 70s during my fast. Finishing Day 15 now.

Popeye’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich claims another victim… I was weak!

Can’’t lie. I pass a Popeye’s on one of my daily walk routes. Luckily I walk so early they haven’t opened for business yet BUT it does tempt me though. LOL

@Compdude @Tim_C This Popeyes new menu item hasn’t come to Canada or something, didn’t here a single person talking about it except in our group this month :joy::joy: is it THAT good? :joy: I’m scared to search it up

Says it all and I don’t even like “chicken sandwiches”! :joy:
