SJ's 7 day fast

Hey all,

Today is day 2/7: 36:04:25. I’m craving pesto penne, nachos, and cookie dough so bad right now. I decided to try to distract myself by journaling here. That negative little voice in my head is trying to convince me to binge. I know it will feel good in the moment, but I’ll feel terrible after. I’m trying to be strong. I’m going to do some leg lifts with ankle weights and lift some dumbbells then I’ll take my pup out for a walk.

Hey all,

Guess what?! I did it! I made it through the night.

3/7: 57:06:41. I established care with a pcp today, she was pretty cool. I’ll be taking medication for high bp (until I can get it under control). My goal will be to get to a healthy BMI and see if that helps decrease my risk. Yesterday I went to a rheumatologist and had x-rays done on my wrists to see if I have psoriatic arthritis. The pcp read the results which were negative

I’m looking forward to transforming my health. Also my new pcp approved fasting.

Congrats! My pcp was skeptical. But it turned into a blessing in disguise as I’m now consulting weekly with an endocrinologist at the USC School of Medicine. His clientele are adult onset T2 diabetics and cancer patients. He’s applying my experiences to help his patients in exchange he answers my medical questions and has agreed to review all the science in my book.

Look forward to reading about how fasting will help with your arthritis. I have osteoarthritis myself so I want to see how my upcoming 21-day fast impacts that. Btw, I was able to drop both my hypertension medications after 4 months and 5 days into my own custom treatment protocol. A key was a daily walk of 1 to 2 miles. Besides helping with the lymphatic system, I figured it would help my vascular system adapt to the rapid change in my body weight. The endocrinologist agreed with my reasoning as I lowered my bp from 191/103 to 121/81. Another factor was losing 81 pounds.

@Compdude

Your results are just beautiful.
I’m disappointed/scared about where my health is currently. I find that this forum and the people apart of it are very helpful.

I’m also excited about your book.

Hey all,

Day 4: 85:55:07 complete. I didnt get much sleep last night because I was up worrying about my mom who had surgery today. I attributed the insomnia to that but now I’m thinking it’s a side effect of fasting because I tried to get in a nap all day. I’m so tired but I just can’t shut off. I’ll have to try the magnesium supplement a lot of you have suggested. Cravings are staring to die down. I prepared food for my mom postop and I was able to control myself. I’m proud of that because I have a terrible relationship with food that’s mostly guided by my mood. I’m also proud because I made it past day 4 after maxing out at day 3.

I’m going to do some kind of exercise everyday as suggested by @Compdude but that’s a goal for another day, I’m exhausted today.

Identify the pattern when you go on automatic pilot. Then figure out what is the one thing that happens before you go unconscious. Once you have that create a “pattern interrupt”.

I learned this trick from Anthony Robbins. When you find yourself at that point before you go unconscious do something that shocks you into going “Oh, I’m about to go unconscious again. I chose to do something different.”

For Tony Robbins, he’d pinch his thigh before he’d start arguing with his wife. For myself, it was automatically going for that 2nd cup of coffee in the morning. The thing I identified before I went unconscious was trying to take.a sip from an empty cup while working at my computer. Now instead of walking to the coffee machine, I go to the sink, wash the cup and instead grab a cold bottle of water out of the refrigerator.

I learned from the famed magician Penn Gilette, of the Penn and Teller duo, that when he lost 100lbs he learned that all eating is habit. The key is replacing “bad” habits with “good” ones.

Hope this helps!

I am new to this supportive group. I weigh a whooping 248lbs although I dropped from 252lbs with intermittent fasting. I have high blood pressure and cholesterol. I will like to water fast for at least 7days. I have tried several times and could not go beyond three days (72hrs). I craved bread and meat each time.
Presently, I am 16 hrs into the fasting and I hope I will have enough willpower to accomplish my goal. I will take it a day at a time but my goal weight is 160lbs as per my height.
I joined the group for accountability and support
Thank you

Btw, I started my journey back in August 9th and I became “medication free” in 4 months and 5 days. I reversed my T2 diabetes, went from 191/103 to 121/81 bp, cured my gout and cholesterol, and dropped 81 pounds. Still working on my CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease), osteoarthritis and hoping to reverse my retinopathy so I don’t have cataract surgery on my left eye.

Hey all,

Today is day 2. It went well, fought off some cravings. Headache was starting in but it’s fine now. Did some strength training. Feeling good.
