• RS517's 7 Day Fast Journal •

DETAILS: 34 • F • 5’6 • 155.3lbs •
Daily practice - Usually 18-23 hours per day
Longest fast ever completed - 5 days
Daily activity: Weight lift 4-5 days a week, walking is prime for me since I live in NYC. I get in at least 7-10 miles a week here. During the warmer months I can put in 4-5 miles a day without noticing!
Current Medication - None

REASONS FOR FASTING:

  1. Reduce inflammation (muscular, joint, post surgery for an injury)
  2. Reduce body fat percentage: must admit I got a bit fluffier this season :see_no_evil:
  3. Love the discipline & challenge

DAY 1 (2/15-2/16)
STARTING WEIGHT 155.3LBS
FEELING: Good, as most would probably expect. Nothing to really report :woman_shrugging:t4:… It’s that 50-72 hour mark where you’ll probably get to read some of my woes lol

Also monitor your energy levels as you get deeper into your fast. You may need to reduce the number and/or intensity of your workouts speaking from experience.

DAY 2 (2/16-2/17)
STARTING WEIGHT 155.3lbs/70.4kg
TODAY: 152.6lbs/69.2kg (-2.7lb/1.2kg loss)
OVERALL LOSS: 2.7lbs/1.2kg
FEELING: On a scale from 1-10 (10 being the worst) I’m at around a 6. Ghrelin hasn’t been so active, which was kind of nice. It kept the hunger pangs at bay. I’ve been drinking only tea and water. I didn’t get great sleep last night, as can be expected. I woke up this morning feeling a bit lethargic and groggy. Worked out yesterday, felt great, but today I’m going to take it easy and just go for a walk.

DAY 3 (2/17-2/18)
STARTING WEIGHT 155.3lbs/70.4kg
TODAY: (No change) 152.6lbs/69.2kg (-2.7lb/1.2kg loss)
OVERALL LOSS: 2.7lbs/1.2kg
FEELING: On a scale from 1-10 (10 being the worst) I’m at around a 2-3. This is the point guys, I’m feeling all those symptoms of mineral deficiencies. Nausea, dizziness, lethargy, fatigue. I’m supplementing with the main minerals and am a lot better than I was when I woke up in the middle of the night. The funny thing is, however, I slept better last night than I did the last two nights :woman_shrugging:t4:. The pain I’ve been having in my elbow and knees for several weeks has subsided pretty much by 100% and my hip flexors are less painful as well. So there are improvements in inflammation! Pushing through… I’ll jump this hurdle soon.

TODAY: 150.4lbs/68.2kg (-2.2lb/.99kg loss)
OVERALL LOSS: 4.9lbs/2.2kg
FEELING: Good! About an 9 out of 10 on the scale. Energized, feel like I can about my day easier, half way there!

Should be diving into full ketosis about now. How’s your sleep time at night coming along?

You’re probably right about that. It was difficult getting to sleep the day before yesterday, but last night I got about 7-8 hours of sleep in, I woke up once but was able to get back to sleep.

You’ll get less sleep because of these three developments:

  1. Brain runs better on ketones than glucose
  2. Estimated up to 10% of metabolic rate used for digestion and energy storage and that’s freed up during a fast
  3. Creation of new brain cells during prolonged fasts.

It can be uncomfortable but your information is reassuring, thanks!

DAY 5 (2/19-2/20)
STARTING WEIGHT 155.3lbs/70.4kg
TODAY: (No Change) 150.4lbs/68.2kg (-2.2lb/.99kg loss)
OVERALL LOSS: 4.9lbs/2.2kg
FEELING: Good! Again, about a 9 out of 10 on the scale. My skin/complexion is definitely brighter and smoother. Body pain has subsided greatly, I slept really well last night, and am looking leaner (to me at least :woman_shrugging:t4::see_no_evil:).

And while weight my stays the same for a couple days it’s important not to focus on the scale too much, there’s definitely improvements happening from within the body.

DAY 6 & 7 (2/20-2/22)
STARTING WEIGHT 155.3lbs/70.4kg
TODAY: 149.3lbs/67.7kg (-1.1lb/.5kg loss)
OVERALL LOSS: 8.9lbs/4kg
FEELING: Overall good! Not as difficult as I suspected, was even able to workout. Not bad for a 9lb loss, but obviously will gain some back once I refeed. I’m pretty experienced in this practice but it was nice to challenge myself anyway.

Beginning tomorrow I’ll be on an ADF schedule while incorporating intermittent dry fasting.
