PriyaVijay's first 30 day Water Fast

INTRO:-
Hi I am Priya Vijay from Virginia. I have always struggled to maintain my weight. I used to workout for 5 days in the gym but couldn’t keep the weight off once i stopped going to the gym. I have done short term fasts so far and wanted to try a 30 day fast for the first time. And my true inspiration is Yasemin. I used to watch her fasting videos on youtube and that is how i got to know about this amazing platform. An amazing platform like this is much needed these days to lead a fit and healthy life.

WHY:
I am doing this to prove to myself that nothing is impossible when you have a positive attitude and discipline. I just want to see the better version of my ownself after 30 days.

PLAN:
Planning to do a 30 day water fast.
Start Day: May 27, 2020
Start Time: 06:00 PM IST

Long Term and Short Term Goals:
My long term goal is stay fit and healthier always.
My short term goal is to lose fat and reach my normal BMI.

How I feel right now:
I am excited and confident about my water fast journey.

How will i feel after 30 days:
I would definitely feel proud about myself for achieving my goal. This would shape me into a better person both physically and mentally.

Good Luck to all the members of this platform!!

What is the longest fast that you completed and when was your most recent one? Just asking to see if I can make some suggestions that could help you succeed.

Thank you for the invite… :slightly_smiling_face:
I have done a 2 day and 3 day water fast in the last two weeks. A few months back i have done a 7 day water fast. Previously when i used to do my short term fast , i didnt know how to cope up with weekness and dizziness during the fasting period, so i was even scared to opt for a prolonged water fast. This time i really want to try and do a 30 day fast.

It would be really great and helpful if you could share your thoughts on this.

Break up the 30 day into four 7-day and one 2-day segments. This will give you a sense of accomplishment as you hit each milestone and a chance to evaluate. Here’s what my 40-day fast breakdown looks like:

Btw, I use the Zero app.

You already know the 1st 3 days are tough as you transition into transition. Do you have your required electrolyte supplements on hand?

Appreciate your response. That would be a great idea to break the fast into segments.
Nope i dint take any supplements or electrolytes during the short term fast. If at all i feel very dizzy i just add a pinch of pink salt to 2 or 3 glasses of water during the day and this gives a relief for a short time. Is it really necessary to take supplements and electrolytes in a prolonged fast? What would you suggest?

Good you’re taking the salt that’s 1 of 3 mandatory to keep your electrolyte levels up. You also need magnesium & potassium. Here’s the reasons why: 28 day water fast beginning midnight 18th May

Thank you!
Just read your response, so this time will just try to take the required electrolyte supplements while fasting.

Hi Priyavijay,

This is my first 30 day fast as well i started yesterday. You didnt say how much weight you want to lose ? Or what you weigh.

I need to lose 8 kilos so im hoping this fast will drop it, and then go to the gym to build some muscle.

Hi Chris,

My current weight is 62 kg. My goal is to reach 47 - 54 kg, which would be my normal BMI. I’m petite so need to loose a lot…
My weight was 52 kg by Jan and after that i put on a lot of weight coz i couldn’t keep track of my diet and didn’t workout consistently.

Im sure you would be able to lose more than 8 kgs in a 30 day fast. Good luck😊

Let’s focus on our goals when we crave for food. Yesterday i just convinced myself this way, if i eat now m gonna regret now and then start over again and this is not going to help in anyway. So yeah just keep convincing yourself!

We are the same weight  with similar goal, how do u intend to lose the weightv?

Totally agree with you @ashi_bt.

One quick question, can anyone please suggest the best workout during a prolonged fast. I do the Piyo workout by Chalene Johnson on normal days, but difficult to do it on a fast. Or will i still lose weight if i dont workout at all?

During a prolonged fast its best to take a “regressive” approach. What I mean is you can’t add lean muscle mass during a prolonged fast as adding muscle is an energy intensive activity and the body has higher priorities. As long as you freeze or reduce the reps on your last workout you’ll be fine in the beginning. However, the deeper you go in the fast your energy levels will drop due to several factors such as fatigue from the accumulated stress from fasting and as your body requires more energy for detox. Then you need to cut back, add more rest days or reduce to a 1 to 2 mile walk.

The reason for a daily walk is twofold:

  1. Fat burning requires oxygen so you want that Cardiorespiratory system running optimally
  2. It helps your cardiovascular system adapt to your leaner and trimmer body.

When I did my 40-day last year all I did was the daily 1 to 2 mile walk and I dropped 46 pounds.
