Lou's daily journal

Hi everyone, I’m Lou and I have fasted quite a bit. I have used it to maintain weight, but have fallen off the wagon recently and found it hard to get back on. When fasting, I also exercise and am healthy and comfortable in my ever changing skin. When not, the opposite. I want to feel healthy again, to enjoy my own skin and get out there and exercise.

Today is day one. We are in lockdown, but I allowed to go for a walk, so will take the dogs out for a 1.5 hour walk today. I am self employed, so until the government tell the country how we are going to be supported, I have very little money. No food and drink during my fast will help my financial health alongside my physical and mental health.

My main struggle is a glass (bottle) of wine, or a few Gins. When I drink, I eat.

When I start a fast, I always have very little sleep for the first few days, as no sleep and less activity. I always feel better when I get to day four.

I’m not weighing myself atm, as it depresses me at the beginning of a fast.

Here goes, keep your fingers crossed that the wine devil doesn’t win the conversation today.

Welcome to our fasting community!

Btw, “When I drink, I eat” sounds that you recognize your “trigger” to go into an unconscious pattern.

Yep, Day 4 is when your body has fully transitioned from glucose burning to ketosis as your body has usually depleted all of its glycogen (stored carbohydrates) from its liver and muscles.

Good luck!

@lrmcm1 Welcome! I encourage you to read This Naked Mind by Annie Grace which you may be able to get from the library. She also has https://learn.thisnakedmind.com/the-alcohol-experiment-registration which is a free 30-day experiment to give it up for a month. These are really good resources to help you cutting out the booze. The first couple of weeks with no alcohol will affect your sleep and energy levels, but it’s just temporary while your body detoxes and rebalances.

It’s a great time to do this for yourself, to return to a place of feeling strong, healthy, and confident! :muscle:

Let us know how we can help! :grinning:

Thank you Compdude for offering inspiration & knowledge. Need an initiation into fasting. I need my mind to allow me pass 24-48 hrs. Any special tools that help?

I suggest the following:

  1. Make sure you have a strong “why” to get you through the tough times
  2. Understand almost all the weight you will lose the 1st 3 days is water weight
  3. If you have a sugar/carb addiction, it will make the transition to ketosis harder.
  4. Chat with other members in the forum or with members in the private FB group that can motivate you.

Hope this helps!
