Liza's fasting adventure

Hi everyone!
So a little background about myself I guess… I have been fasting for a few years doing OMAD. my fast norm range between 18-22hrs. So Just recently I decided to try waterfasting to chang it up a bit. Did 3 days pretty easy and then 2 weeks. I am in the military and currently deployed down range so I thought it might be the perfect time to detox myself from everything.

On Oct 23rd I started my waterfast.
I am 65inch tall
Starting weight 156lbs
As of today Oct 28th I weighed in at 147lbs.
My ideal weight is 130-125lbs.

My fasting goal is Nov 28th, Thanksgiving! Fingers crossed I can make it through. My job is pretty physical and my energy is starting to drop but pushing through. No major symptoms or cravings for food. Only change rt now is my sleep, its getting harder to get in my normal 5-6 hrs…
Hope everyone is going strong, we can do this!

Hey Liza,

Thanks for sharing your journal. I hope your fast is still going well. I’m just now going into my day 3. One day behind everyone else. I am former military and spent 15 months down range, so I definitely understand the struggles and difficulty with trying to do a water fast while you are there. That said, just pay attention to your body, and make sure you get your electrolytes such as sea salt.

I’m 63 inches tall, my starting weight was also 156, and I’m only down to 154 right now. That said, not going through near as much as you are with physical endurance on a daily basis. I’m only doing 21 days, so I am going through the 18th. I have a trip over November 24th weekend and I want to make sure to refeed before then so I don’t mess up my stomach and progress… You might want to consider ending your fast 3-4 days earlier so you can do a slow / proper refeed if you plan to eat regular “Thanksgiving” type foods… just a thought. Not trying to get you off your game. I know that I’ve done fasts where I immediately went to regular foods right after, and I didn’t feel good and I ended up gaining back a few extra pounds (no big deal, could have been water weight).

I’ve also been struggling with sleep. Got about 1 hour at most the night before last and about 3 hours last night… even been taking melatonin and extra strength sleepy time tea… not helping.

My schedule has been a little crazy the last few days so I haven’t gotten to work out (I enjoy working out while still on my fast), but I’m hoping to make it work this evening. I noticed that the evenings I am the most vulnerable to foods… that’s where my mind starts to play tricks on me… maybe while I’m on the extended water fast, I’ll start trying to work out in the evening around dinner time to help me stay strong mentally. What are your thoughts?

How did you do on your first 2 week fast? This is my first extended fast beyond 4 days. I’m excited and nervous.

Hi Priscilla!
First off thank you for your service! It is hard out here especially because I have a very physically job. I work 12s but those are more like 13-14hr shifts because of cross over and then i hit the gym afterwards. The first week I was able to have pretty stong workouts. But this last week I could feel how weak I was so I took it very easy.
I have always done some form of fasting. I used to compete in figure competitions so I had to constantly transform my body in a short period of time. But this being your first fast everything you are feeling is normal. Really once you get past day 3-4 the food cravings stop. Sleep is kinda tough though. Im used to getting mabe 5 regularly but when I have done prolonged fasting I too have found sleeping hard. I tend to take power naps basically lol. My first 2 week fast I was 155, I tend to stay in the weight range of 150-155 in off season. It wasnt a true water fast because I had allowed myself a 500cal cushion every day if I needed it. I ended my fast at 140 but I completely wasted all my efforts because after the first 2 days of eating clean I went crazy and overate everything. I have been vegan for 3 years so I was just eating lots if processed carbs and vegan treats. Got back up to 152. Its been a year since my 2 week fast. And since then i have just been OMAD. Which works really well. I got down to 136 and maintained for about 9 months and then got deployed. Decided to do a lean bulk and then that turned into a dirty bulk because being deployed out here sucks. And food really is one of the only comforts you have that brings you a little joy around all this death and dirt. Soo I got up to 156. Decided its time to try to prolong fast again and end it rt this time. I started on Oct 23 at 156lbs. Its Nov 2 and I just weighed in at 138!
Its hard girl and Pretty scary to do this but its just a mental battle. Your body is a very smart machine and will take care of itself… that being said if you really feel like something is wrong or extremely sick. Throw in the towel. You can always try again . And dont think if it as a failure because you still fasted longer than everyone around you! Stay stong! Weigh ins really help motivate you to keep going! Make sure your are intaking seasalt too if you are having headaches, nausea, lightheaded, or just a overall weakness. It really helps.
