Lisa’s Journal

Starting at Day 5 cause I wasn’t sure I’d make it past the first 4 days. Brief recap of past 4.

Day 1 - uneventful easy; walked; Pilates
Day 2 - headache phase ended mid-morning
walked; Pilates
Day 3 - unexpected headache. Realized I did not drink enough water day 2. Electrolye water killed it; walked; Pilates
Day 4: Worked and drank water; Had a session with personal trainer for stats. Walked; Pilates

I’ve been fasting and experimenting with different fasts since 2008. While I’ve reached a nice weight several times, never quite hit goal weight and the refeeding beast often takes over. Dry fasts are easier for me. My longest soft-dry was 6 days. Longest pure Dry was 3 days. Longest water fast 12 days. Longest juice fast, 42 days. I’m appreciating Yasmin and the advice of others in their journals because I’m hitting this water fast different.

For starters, I’m utilizing electrolytes (no sugar pure potassium, salt, magnesium mixture) which really helps with the nausea and I do use some supplements. Here are mine:

Chlorophyll (pure drops in water)
Activated charcoal (at night)
Magnesium
Vitamin C
Black Seed Oil capsules
Lysine
Biotin (prevent hair loss)

This is making this fast better. I’m going to stick to primarily walking (25-45min) daily, Pilates, and on occasion weights. The body wants to move.

I also discovered through all of these fasts what I am allergic to food wise. Gluten and Sugar are my Kryptonite with a special shout out to Meat, Dairy, Alcohol, and Caffeine. I’d lie if I said I’d never eat any of that again but I definitely have to regulate and reduce and primarily eat fish, fruit and veggies.

So here’s to getting through Day 5

Hi! How long are you doing your water fast? I am on day 1 and need a buddy. I am fasting through the remainder of June. I need a reboot and have an empty house (no one to cook for!) for the next 2.5 days so I need to make today and the next especially count!

DAY 6 -

Hey there MamaSheBear!

Welcome and absolutely let’s be buddies.

Happy to join you. I’m going through July 19 if I can. Late posting today but it’s 40 days total. Not really sure so I’ll take it day by day. So today is day 2 for you! Congratulations!

I cook for one 13 year old and she’s simple. It used to bother me but I’m so determined this time.

Keep going
You’re probably in the headache phase
Today I’m in the bile in the stomach phase. I’m doing the charcoal to help some with it. But I don’t think I’m drinking enough water. This morning I drank my electrolyte water during my workout. Started the day doing my Pilates and walking. I want to go lie down for a bit. On East Coast time so it’s about 4pm here.

I don’t plan to weigh every day but we shall see.

But stay strong my friend. We got this.

Day 7 - The Test

Just woke up and hating the gurgling stomach noises. Heads fine but I definitely get these periods of fatigue. Zero hunger but I think often about what food tastes like. But the body needs to move, so I’m about to get to my walking and Pilates with the early energy. My goal is to drink 3 liters with at least one being electrolyte water. But I’m a fan of water in any form. Hot water, cold water Pelegríno water since I’m moving heavily to the mucus nausea bile phase which will go into overdrive by Friday, my 12th day if I stay strong. But let’s stay on today and this mortal combat framed test called Graduation time and the Dinner Party. I can’t avoid either of these events.

First up, a 1pm graduation party with pulled pork and barbecue and lord knows what other food. Then at 5pm head to a dinner party with 14 people. Chicken Marsala, homemade mashed potatoes, fresh cooked shucked corn :corn: that’s just been harvested, and greens. A huge charcuterie board, homemade chocolate cake, guests are bringing wine and cakes.

Preparing my mind this way. Yes. these are special occasions. But there will always be more events like these!

While it’s a perfect storm, I can do this.
Simply put, I don’t have to eat. It’s now a choice.

If I send a day 8, I got through.
If I don’t, then I broke like a bucking bronco at a third rate rodeo.

But who wants refeeding issues?

Happy Fasting Trails

Day 8

I’m posting so I made it through! That was a great victory over myself for sure. Not hungry, but food memory when fasting is a beast. My posts will now be shorter cause I’m just focused on day by day. What helped me the most yesterday was just focusing on being with friends and enjoying them and helping the hosts serve and clean up. Also at the second part someone bought some Italian carbonate water no added nothing but potassium etc. it was delicious. Put some in a wine glass and it held me down awesome. Anyway…

Day 9 - The gut

Yuck. GERD stinks and it’s in overdrive. This nasty residue at the back of my throat just sits there. Acid reflux is gross  I’ve added Good Belly tablets and it’s helping. No hunger but my gut feels icky. I hold most weight in my stomach. But here’s a quote that helps me level set. It was just what I needed to read.

“Serotonin, the neurotransmitter that helps regulate mood, appetite, and sleep, is mostly produced in the gut, so the food you put into your body not only affects your energy levels, but it can actually affect your emotions, too,” Megan Gilmore

So there is a sound reason why when we fast and fat breaks down and toxins start to exit, that our brains go in a mini revolt. But there is an end I’m telling myself.

Days 10-11
Yesterday was a busy work day so I failed to hop on. But I literally set at a computer working nonstop, drinking water and listening to podcasts. All ended well except for making stir fry for my daughter. It looked yummy but I had zero desire for it. Today my stomach just feels bloated. Why is it that all fat doesn’t seem to break down there first. I can tell in my face, back and other areas but my tummy is holding this fat like it’s the last meal on earth and it wants to be the last to go down with the fat ship. Either way the fight continues.

Day 13

Today is an official milestone. I broke my record from 16 years ago of 12 days. Yippee!! I worked yesterday at the desk and watched Father of the Bride for the hundredth time. So Day 12 was a nothing to see here kind of day.

Proud of this milestone.

Day 14
So far so good. I know drinking Pellegrino water is not recommended but it helped. I’m ok TMI for a sec I have this phlegm just sitting in my throat. Hate it. I’m gonna gargle with salt water. Stomach still fighting mad the fast is continuing and it must release its chubby preserves. I get these weird pains there. But they go away. I’m not weighing myself until the end, because I find when I start doing that… I become obsessed with a 1lb change here or there. I’d rather it be a surprise at the very end of all this and I’ll post pics. But I’ll repeat my starting and goal weights.

Day 15

Today I got up and did my walking. Will do Pilates tonight. Decided to drink hot water this AM to simulate like tea etc. Mucus is still stuck in my throat. It’s so disgusting  I almost want to gag and make it come up. It’s Uber gross and it’s just sitting there not.wanting.to.move. It just makes me irritated more than anything. A little belly nausea but not that bad. Gonna make some electrolyte water. Working from home so staying semi-busy at desk computer. One thing though. I made this delicious lasagna esq dish for my daughter. Not gonna lie… I almost broke it was so yummy. She and my roommate ate it and loved it. It was so hard but I stayed strong. My reasoning is that… whenever I fast, the food will be there or I can just make it again. Maybe a healthier version cause it was off the chain.

Day 16
Today has gone pretty quick. Still have nasty  mucus throat. I take Himalayan pink salt which helps. But ugh… I’m managing. When I get up in the AM I feel a sense of well being which steadily goes down notches till we celebrate the end of another day. I made it.

Day 18 - Waking up is hard

I woke up at the witching hour of midnight after having gone to bed around 8pm then went back to bed at 3am. So this am is a bit rough. If I can make it to Sunday (21 days) I will evaluate if I could possibly do 7 more. See, I always stop right when I’m about to benefit the most. 28 days may not get me to 164.9 it will get me closer than I’ve been but you got to account some regain during refeeding, which now I am more invested in than fasts past. So far it’s been water, electrolyte water, chlorophyll water, pelligrino water, and plain mint tea for the first time yesterday. I love nights cause I sleep, mornings cause I feel the weight difference… days… that’s the hardest part. I made enchiladas last night and boy… watching my daughter eat was like one of those crass MuckBongs all these kids like on YouTube. Torture but fun all the same.

Here’s to today and onward.

Day 19 - Friday!

Yesterday and this morning were the toughest I’ve experienced and came the closest to breaking. One I had to be in a mall and I could see a Ramen spot and all I could envision was the broth and noodles. :ramen: I’m not even the biggest Ramen fan. I was busy so I escaped before I could be tempted to order. I have been imagining sausages and cabbage. It didn’t help I YouTubed those travel channel videos where people eat from the best of the best. So I deserve the torture I feel subjecting myself to that. This morning I was blah. So I’ve started on the peppermint tea which is totally helping 200%. It helps the nausea and mucus in my throat. Sunday is Day 21. I have an unexpected flight this week which I fear may derail my fast because it’s with my boss and inevitably we will have lunch somewhere so I need a game plan. We all know once we break it’s so so hard to restart and keep going. And I have to break earlier than planned maybe Monday with bone broth. Thinking about this now.

Well… onward

Day 20 - Skin glow

So today people actually begin to notice my weight loss. This is how well I hide weight, most people noticed it in my face, and my roommate says, “what is it about 10lbs”? lol. :joy: No it’s a lot more I’m sure because while I haven’t weighed myself I’ve been steadily trying on outfits that I couldn’t even pull past my thighs 3 weeks ago. I’m certainly no where near where I want to be. But it’s definitely probably been commiserate with the fasting days so maybe 21 lbs. Since I have this business trip tomorrow, tomorrow will officially be the final day for this round. So 21 days provided I get through 9pm. I’m so proud of myself because I HATE water fasts and honestly prefer dry ones. They are so so much easier. So after much thought… here’s the refeeding game plan. I’ve decided to go OMAD and Keto. This will be the best way to prevent losing all of my gains. I’ll weigh in on Monday for the final numbers.

Monday - Bone broth
Tuesday - Bone broth
Wednesday - Business trip OMAD low to no carb this will be tough cause I’m on a business trip so we will see
Thursday - OMAD
Friday - OMAD

Next week, I will pick back up on Game Plan #2

Day 21-22

Ok so I officially broke yesterday at 8:30pm which is exactly 21 days for me. YAY!

So I was stuck in NYC looking for some soup and it was an impossible task. There were lines everywhere due to the giant parade and I just wanted soup.

I ended up at an organic Thai restaurant and broke on coconut soup and Brussels sprouts. I know not the best idea but it’s done. So today I’m exercising, chugging water and hot mint tea to try and get this stuff out and we know it’s going to take a great effort. Otherwise I feel fine but not like eating. I will have to eat Wed when we fly in Michigan and do lunch and then it’s back to fasting
