Let's not give up this time

Hello world,

So, I water fasted last year around this time, and it didn’t turn out the way I’d expected. I was planning to do an extended fast for 30 days, but I just couldn’t.
I managed to do 5 days, but after that my acid reflux was about to burn a hole in my throat. I tried everything to dampen the symptoms, but nothing really worked, so I stopped.
I quit my fast with a soup and thought “I’ll start another fast after this weekend”. The weekend came and it went and I was back to my old eating habits.

This time I’m thinking of doing it differently. I now know that I can fast up to 5 days with manageable acid reflux, so I though “Why not fast for five days, break it and continue right away”. So I’ve decided to do that; I’ll fast during the workdays and eat during the weekend. That way I can enjoy the family Sunday roast, without feeling guilty or left out.

I’ll be doing this until the 20th of December. My brother comes that date and I don’t want to worry him or be confronted with questions such as “why aren’t you eating anything”. Instead, I’ll do a 20+ hour fast and have a smaller eating window. It’s not like fasting, but it’ll definitely help keeping the weight off me.
Once he leaves on the 11th, I’ll be going back to fasting 5 days a week.

I’m really hopeful this time, and quite excited too. I have a long way to go, being only 5’7 and weighing 225 lbs. Loose skin is something I really worry about as well. But I’d rather have some loose skin, than dying prematurely because of my weight.

So, this is it. Day 1 of 5… Wish me good luck!

You’re doing really well, Veles. Regarding the 5/2 fasting & feasting, that tends to work really well. I used it myself for a couple of months and averaged a 4 lb loss a week. Don’t ask me why I stopped; it certainly wasn’t for any good reason…

I’m looking forward to hearing your results!

Thank you Mary for your kind words! It’s really nice to have read some kind words through this headache of mine.

Hello world,

Today is the second day and I’m feeling alright. Yesterday was rough, as I had a splitting headache towards the end of the day. But a good night sleep helped a lot and I’m feeling fine today.

I have this weird craving for something to eat. Not that I’m hungry in any way, I just want to eat something for the sake of eating.
I guess I’ll have to find more things to do, to keep myself occupied. I just hope that helps.

See you soon and wish me good luck

Morning Veles,

Good job on the 2 kgs! That’s really encouraging, isn’t it?
Regarding acid reflux - some of us find that a (small) spoonful of baking soda in a glass of water works really well. I used this remedy last night and it cleared the reflux up immediately. Though it is a bit rough getting the stuff down…

I broke my fast last night, 3 hours before a full 7 days. I will feast today and starting fasting again this evening - hopefully going for another 7 days. Just as something for you to think about - if you’re doing rolling fasts/feasts you may find you need to increase your feast days as time goes by. It’s easy to get “fasting fatigue” doing this and it makes it really hard to continue.

Good luck going forward!

Cheers,
Mary

Hi Veles!

Are you drinking just water? Are you consuming anything else? Coffee, diet drinks, vitamins, etc.? Do you normally consume caffeine?
