Kiely's Extended Water Fast Journal

Hi everyone! I’m Kiely, 24, and an elementary teacher. I’m currently on Spring Break for the next two weeks and I thought this would be the perfect time to try an extended fast.

Here’s a little background info on me: I’ve had an unhealthy relationship with food for years. I’ve struggled with binging and a sugar addiction and as a result… being overweight. I came across Dr. Jason Fung’s The Complete Guide to Fasting last year and was inspired to give intermittent fasting and extended fasting a try to heal my body and my relationship with food.

The longest fast I’ve done was 3 days about a year ago, but I’m feeling super motivated to go even longer this time around after finding this forum!

I started my fast Monday 3/9 at 8:00 pm and I’m still going strong! (Almost to 48 hours fasted) My goal is to make it 7 days.

Beginning Stats:
height: 5’7" (170 cm)
weight: 185 lbs (83.9 kg)

I’ll keep y’all updated

Welcome Kiely! We’re so happy to have you here! I admire you bravery to get on here and share with us your past struggles with food and sugar. So many of here can so relate, so you are not alone. Looming forward to seeing where you go in your journey and what you choose to accomplish!

Thanks Rebecca! I will definitely keep y’all updated. I really needed to hear “what you choose to accomplish.” In the past I’ve made thousands of excuses… not this time.

Oh that’s great to hear! We’re after progress and not perfection on this group, just keep going no matter how many times you may fall.

Day 3
Going to sleep last night I was having some stomach pains but this morning they were gone. I started off the day by weighing in and some progress pics and I’m shocked how much the bloating in my stomach has gone down. So far I’ve lost 5 lbs (2.2kg) from Day 1.

My plans for the day are to clean my apartment, take a walk in the sunshine, do some journaling, and reading. I’m loving this mental clarity.

Fantastic results in such a small period of time! Thanks for sharing!

Day 4! This is the longest I’ve ever fasted before and I’m feeling super motivated to keep going. So far everything has been good. My sleep was definitely off last night though. I couldn’t fall asleep until about 1:00am then I woke up at 5:00am still very tired. I stayed up for about 2 hours, then slept for about 4 more hours. My body is feeling a little sluggish today. I’m about to replenish some electrolytes so hopefully that will help.

I fasted 96 hours and then had a meal last night. I’m proud of myself for having the mental strength to fast that long after a 1.5 year hiatus from extended fasting and do something that many people will never do in their lifetime. I’m going to have to work my way up to a longer fast. Next time I will get past 4 days!

I’m going to wait a week or two before I try another extended fast, but in between I’ll be mixing it up with 24s and 48s. Thanks for your support!

Smart way of doing it. I did 4, 5, 7 before tackling my 40.

That is a smart way to do it! Smalls steps go a long way when you build consistency, before you know it, you will reach your goals!
