Kayla's Daily Fasting Journal

Hello! My name is Kayla, and I have been struggling with my weight for years. I have gone through periods of gaining weight and losing weight, but I always end up gaining everything back, sometimes ending up weighing even more than I originally did. I’m tired of feeling fat and unhealthy, and now that I’ve graduated university, I’m ready to put all of my focus on getting back to the health I was in years ago.

Why are you doing this?
I’m doing this because I want to actually feel healthy again for the first time in a long time and because I have a lot of pain issues that could be improved by a combination of the autophagy benefits as well as the weight loss that comes with extended fasting. I was a competitive gymnast, but injuries caused me to have to quit, and unfortunately, I maintained the same eating habits, which included way too much food for how active I was after getting injured. Then my eating habits got worse, and now I’m nearly 210 pounds at only 5’5", which is very unhealthy. After the fast, I will be focusing on much healthier eating habits, which I had already begun implementing.

What are your long term and short term goals?
Short term, I intend to undertake a 40 day fast to begin with, which I began last night. This was following a period of months of OMAD and 16/8, as well as multiple 2-3 day fasts. Long term, I hope to get more consistent with implementing fasting into my life as a healing option for when I have pain flare-ups. I’m also hoping to be closer to or at my goal weight (and much healthier!) by my 23rd birthday, which is in January. Finally, I’ve been training for a half marathon, so I’m hoping to reach that goal by my birthday, as well.

What are some struggles you face or you have faced in the past?
I have been struggling with inflammation and pain for over 12 years now. Along with this, I have very little self-confidence, and I’ve gotten to the point where I just hate how I look and feel most of the time. I’m hoping that fasting will help me find the time to face these issues while providing the healing benefits of autophagy at the same time.

What is your game plan?
I have made a plan that includes four periods of fasting, re-feeding, and OMAD Keto over the next 4 months. This will include the longest fast at 40 days, which is what I am working towards right now.

How do you feel right now, and why?
I feel motivated, but I also feel a little bit of apprehension, because I’ve always had a hard time making it past day 2 or 3. I know I can do it though, I just need to find something that will keep me busy for a while, because boredom is always what eventually leads me to quit, which is a bad habit anyways. I also feel excited though, because I know that if I can accomplish something like this, I can accomplish anything.

How will you feel once you achieve your goal?
I will feel healthy and strong, like I am capable of accomplishing anything.
