Jenny's Daily Fasting Journal

I’m so excited to be a part of this community! I have been fasting in some capacity since September 2019. I’ve been keto/low carb since February 2018. While I lost the bulk of my weight on keto, fasting seems to be the missing part of the equation for me. My body has been responding well, and I can’t wait for Fastmas! Good luck everyone!

Took my measurements today. 144 lbs and 38"-33"-39" … If I can lose over the holidays, great. If I can maintain and begin losing in January, that’s good too. I don’t know what to expect because this is my first holiday season doing IF. I’m going to trust my body and this process and allow myself to enjoy the holidays without guilt. Woohoo!

Beginning my 48 hour fast today. Technically I’m already 16 hours in. I’m hungry this morning, which is unlike me, but I know hunger comes in waves so no big deal. May have to run to the store for more sparkling water.

I’ve been so hungry all day long! Ah! But I’ve stuck with the fast. Excited that it’s time for bed so I don’t have to feel hungry for eight hours lol.

Ended up completing a 43 hour fast, refeed for two hours, then straight into a 23 hour fast, two hour refeed. I feel great! May have to shift my refeed windows to later in the evening because I’m experiencing some postprandial somnolence.

Yesterday I didn’t eat until 4:30, and it worked so well. I had fasted 25 hours and had a refeed window of three hours. I started getting sleepy around 9pm, and that works much better for me than getting sleepy at 4 o’clock! Yay! Now I’m 16.5 hours into my next fast and not hungry at all. Yes!

Goal today is to fast all day. I’ll break my fast tomorrow at noon, which will complete a 42-44 hour fast. I don’t weigh because the scale has too much power over me mentally. Instead I try on my honesty pants on Tuesday mornings (the mornings after my longest fast of the week). My honesty pants are the tightest jeans I have in my closet. I could wear them out, but I’d really like them to be looser. When I try them on, I can tell whether or not I’m losing inches.

I agree on the scale part, I’m not good at handling scales either, even if I understand and think rationally about it to understand the different factors that affects the scale (that doesn’t involve fat gain or fat loss), it’s like I’m letting the scale define me and my self image.
Fasting has been way easier for me when not looking at the scale at all!

Same. If I see the same weight or an increase in weight on the scale, my logic goes out the window! I heard a study showing that women react more acutely to human growth hormone which increases while fasting. This study posited that the HGH can increase the density of our bones! The scale is definitely not going to show us if we’re gaining muscle AND bone density (not to mention the fluctuation in water weight). Since I stopped weighing, I feel much less anxiety.

Oh my goodness! My Zero App is telling me I’m 42 hours:39 minutes into my fast. I’m breaking it in 1 hour:21 minutes, and I am staying busy! Have the day off today. Been up since 4:20 AM with ketone energy. Just starting to get really hungry, but I’m going to push through until noon. Whenever my tummy grumbles I think to myself that it’s my internal pac-man eating through fat and old junky proteins in my body!

Definitely not muscle, you have to ingest protein in order to do that. My favorite analogy is you can’t make bricks without cement. Can you give me the URL for the study? The reason is I can see bone density increasing during a ReFeed but I don’t know where the source for the calcium could be coming from during a fast.

According to Dr Jason Fung you do not have to ingest protein to gain muscle. Your body has the ability to use old protein in your body and recycle it to alter your body composition. I don’t have a URL for the study about bone density because I heard about it on a podcast by Carl Franklin in which he interviewed Megan Ramos of Fung’s IDM clinic.

Thanks for the info, I’ll go and search for it.

You’re welcome!
