Freedumb’s adventure

I ended a 30 fast two days ago. I broke the fast with a cup of bone broth and a teaspoon of plain Greek yogurt. The next day. Three cups of broth and a quarter cup of yogurt.

Part of my goal in fasting was to lose weight, but the larger goal was to use the fast as a point in my history to change my eating life style. Sugar. I want to eliminate sugar completely and see how much it has affected me. Along with that agenda, sugar’s first cousin, carbohydrates, also has to go and second cousin, starch, is on notice.

I am waiting for my broth to finish and looking forward to solid food.

That’s great! You can kick the sugar and carb thing! I’ve been off all that for 30 days now. I still have cravings. I’m not gonna lie. However, I have control over those cravings now, and I tell myself I can have all the keto foods I want the next day… I usually can’t eat that much though because I’m not used to it.

On valentine’s, my husband and I went out to eat. I had half what was served to me; boxed up the rest; and we shared a dessert. I didn’t deprive myself of that one treat on a special occasion. I don’t feel bad about it because I know sweets don’t control me, and I was enjoying the moment. Life is better when you treat yourself once in awhile, as long as you know it’s not the main source of nourishment.

You can do this.

Three days of broth and yogurt, then a little plate of shredded chicken and cheese.
Next day, more broth, then shredded chicken, cheese and yogurt. Later, Broccoli and cheese soup.
Today, three sausages and shredded chicken.

On the bone broth: there was a half inch layer of fat? floating on the top. As soon as I drank this, my intestines told me they were not that thrilled about having to deal with this stuff. I put the rest in the refrigerator and the layer hardened. I removed this before drinking the next cup and had no further problems.

I just finished canning 10 quarts of chicken broth. My GI tract is sputtering along trying to start up. Nothing “normal” yet.

Yeah, I make my own bone broth too. I take the hardened fat off the top for a refeed. Even though I keep it keto, that much fat is a bit too concentrated after even a week-long fast - at least for me. I gradually add more fat into my one meal.

I just purchased Keto sticks and found I am only “light” for keytones. I found chicken broth recipes on line and they onions, carrots and celery. Now, I realize, I shouldn’t have added them, but I have 10 quarts of carb loaded broth! And, I further discovered the yogurt has carbs.:worried:

Day 7 on refeed. No BM yet. I am going to drink the bone broth I made because it is Nutritious and I don’t want to waste it. Solid food is meat, cheese and eggs. There is sugar in cheese (Lactose), but that is the only sugar that I am aware that I’m having. I am reading labels and have found sugar even in sausage!

Day 8 on refeed. I have gained 3 lbs. Since, I have not had a BM, I can guess where most of this weight comes from. For three days, I have been taking a stool softener morning and night to no avail.

Hmmm, do you have constipation? I suffered through that in the early part of my refeed after my 40-day.

I would guess constipation. Nothing at all is happening; no gas, no bloating, no pain.

Yeah I was backed up for a couple of days. Got to be painful until I decided to just sit on the pot and push. It was like a plug got stuck back there and then the flood came after. Had to flush 3 times from the amount and felt better immediately.

As long as its not painful you should be ok. I didnt have my 1st b.m. Until day 5 and then I got contipated. My theory for the delayed bm is due to body hoovering up all the protein to convert all the newly produced stem cells to new cells to repopulate all your major organs where all the dead cells were cannibalized during the prolonged fast. Dr Valter Longo of USC found that in his studies of prolonged fasting that.major organs can shrink up to 30% from this process, However they rapidly regrow to their original size soon after refeed.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. I won’t panic…yet.:flushed:

Day 12 refeed. I’ve dropped 2 pounds and I’m now only 1 pound over my fast weight. I have been sticking to my broth, meat, cheese and eggs. I do not hold back when eating these things.
I drank two bottles of magnesium citrate, to ensure I wasn’t binding up. Still no regular BM.
In the evening, I have a strong desire to snack on something crunchy. I am satisfying this urge with dill pickles. It seems to work , so far.

You have no BM because there’s little to no fiber in the things you’re eating. If you add green vegetables, esp watery ones like lettuce, and continue drinking lots of water , look out! You better get to a bathroom

Congratulations on your extended fast! You’re inspiring me

How muche weight did you loose in the 30 dsys fast? Also, did you experienced light head and dizziness? Im on my 2nd day and want to fast the whole month…

I will try lettuce and greens. Something has to give😮.
36lbs on the fast. I generally became weaker, but no light-headedness.

Well, for all those waiting with anticipation of my forthcoming bowel movement, wait no more. For the first time in 43 days (and 13 days after starting my refeed), I was blessed with a normal BM. One less thing I will take for granted. Thank you all for your support!

Day 15 refeed (March 5). 186lbs. The same weight as when I stopped the fast.
Yesterday, I did a strenuous walk (the first excercise in 2 weeks).
My meals are substantial. Breakfast: a third of a package of bacon and 6 eggs. Dinner: a bowl of beans and 1/2 lb of hamburger with cheese melted on top. Snacks: Dill pickles and green olives. I get a lot of vinegar with the pickles. Another snack is frying strips of chicken in bacon grease until it starts to get crunchy.
I am surprised that I am not gaining weight. I’ve never eaten so much meat in my life!:open_mouth:

Day 50 (April 9th) since fast. Eating only meat, eggs, cheese, plain yogurt, pickles. Weight is steady at 184-186 lbs.: not losing, not gaining. I have avoided suger altogether, except the lactose that is in the yogurt. I am cooking up my third batch of bone broth (10-12 quarts). This time it is turkey broth.
