Fast Into FALL

I’ve made some super yummy keto gnocchi with mozzarella and eggs. I then cook in brown butter and sage and OMG soooo yummy. I know transitioning away from carbs can be really hard. You won’t find anything like pasta, that’s true, but after awhile zucchini noodles etc can be quite yummy in moderation

I was making a lot of low carb things back in 2007. I even did a video about oopsie rolls.

So many more recipes and ingredients are available now it’s overwhelming at times.

Today I’ll be attempting some eggplant rollatini (breading with coconut and almond flour) and yesterday found black soy bean noodles which have half the carbs of regular pasta.

I have no plans for permanent low carb but I do think it’s instrumental while weight loss fasting.

I LOVE the edamame noodles! Yeah there is an insane amount of new products available. I am a chef/pastry chef and learning how to make GF and other specialty diet foods was really fun- even if extremely complicated.

Take a photo of the eggplant rollatini- it sounds amazing!

Yes, they had the edamame pasta too. Aldi’s.

They are a little more pricy those noodles but I’m curious to try.

The ricotta (for the rollatini) isn’t the best low carb cheese and perhaps could be thinned out with something like riced cauliflower? But I’m not going to concern myself with that much caution at the moment. But worth experimenting with in the future.

I have enough kitchen equipment for a cooking show but I’m in a 450ish square foot apartment. I have 5 crockpots that I actually used all of at the same time to prepare one full meal.

I worked in restaurants (service and bartender) for over 25 years - some with certified Master Chefs.

I am a foodie at heart and love trying and tasting new things. And recreation of things I find particularly good.

ATM though I wanted this to be an eat day and I have no appetite .

Need to motivate myself soon if I’m going to eat today as I don’t want to be eating late.

Happy New Week!

I’m down to 25 fasting days left to accomplish.

Not hungry. Wasn’t hungry yesterday but almost thought of snacking out of boredom. That and some neighbor was cooking chicken curry and the smell was outrageous. I may go scold him and tell him he’s not allowed to cook like that on my fasting days. :joy:

Carcass from the rotisserie chicken I think is going in the crock this afternoon so I have some nice fresh broth tomorrow.

Not sure how long it’ll last, but so far with breaking up the refeed days it seems to not let the scale go up too high. I’m liking that. I don’t mind it going up after eating but it goes back down quicker when it’s just one day I’m up against.

The new “fat” scale has finally shot me into the 180’s as well!

So funny. People will tell you not to look at the scale every day so I got two:joy::joy::joy:

The numbers stick in my head better as a reminder so it just works for me.

5 weeks to go. 12 more lbs to strive for. It’s so hot already today I may wind up sweating it all out by tonight at this rate.

I ate on Saturday and Sunday. Today’s a fasting day.

I made a chicken in the Instant Pot on Saturday, then made a whole lot of broth after I took the meat off the bones.

I gained 4 lbs yesterday…except I know I didn’t because I ate very little. It was just so hot here I’m retaining a lot of water. It’s a little cooler today so maybe tomorrow will be better. I did go to the bathroom about 15 times this morning so I’m thinking some of the water must be gone now. I live at the beach in L.A. My body thinks that the temperature is supposed to vary between 68 and 74 degrees year round. When it goes outside those parameters, I get all bloated.

Skinny scale vs. the new heavy weight

Now whose side would you be on?

That 184 is looking very correct to me😉.

Also at 9am I’m ending this fast. I’ll be 2.5 days. So new rule - we’re going to cut the stickie in half.

Good morning!

So pleased! 184 is back! Over 190 is not coming back! Today is Tuesday and it’s an Eat day!

I won’t have any actual appetite until later. Nothing spectacular planned.

I always believe the skinny scale.

However, my scale said I was 151.6 this morning. As much as I’d like to believe that, I’m pretty sure it just needs new batteries. Or maybe I lost 15 lbs overnight. It could happen, right?

I’m eating today, fasting tomorrow. I’m still trying to decide how many carbs to eat today. Should I stay low carb? Or should I take advantage of $2 Tuesday at the ice cream store. And if I do, is ice cream really a nutritious, well-balanced dinner? Decisions…

Hmmmm. You have some choices.

Maybe change the batteries in your scale before deciding. :joy: It’s taco Tuesday and $2 margaritas here but I don’t dare right now. Need to be kind to my tummy. It’ll be there in another month when this challenge ends.

Neighbor picked up Chinese and I’m going to do Chinese style on my broth soup. Getting some kimchi and cashews and playing it safe.

I had weird cramping a ways back and that is all gone now. I think it was something healing or detoxing. So grateful it resolved itself.

So fatty and low carb for me today!

So far my evil plan is working! Today I’m banging out day 23. Wearing a t-shirt from my mom’s closet I confiscated after she passed away. It’s an XL with wiggle room. It was snug a couple months ago.

Really feeling my rib cage these past couple of days. I think the muffin top handles are receeding as well. :slightly_smiling_face:

Miramar, that’s great. Loose clothes are the best.

I put my uniform on for work today and it is very loose. I almost changed it for a smaller size, but this one was already ironed. Sadly, I have uniforms from size 6 to 16 to choose from. I forgot to buy batteries for my scale yesterday so I didn’t weigh this morning.

Score! When I’m sans muffin top.

Size 17 (ya, juniors).

Found this web quote and running with it:

Juniors pant sizes are usually about three numbers higher than the corresponding adult size, though there is no exact equation to convert the sizes.

Forgot I had these. Got them for a dollar or two last fall at a thrift store while in NY. Too small then to wear but too cheap to say no.

Couldn’t get them past the butt then but these are now fitting like those women’s 14’s on the wall!

Too hot to wear for the next couple months at least. I live in shorts so thinking about cutting. I do like the flair cut though. Will hold off and should probably pin to the wall or something.

Totally delaying doing my laundry .

Want to order some shorts online but I really have to try things on and see in person. Also seeing all wrong sizes available. Sigh.

Might have a couple other “too small for me now when I bought it” things hovering in storage.

Want to make it a point to get rid of anything too big. I’m done going back to big. Done done done.

Stomach stomach go away. Don’t come back another day. Grrr.

Ok, really going to pull the washer out now. Got one pair of khaki shorts that might get one more wear out of them then going in the trash. They really almost fell off in the store last time I wore them. :joy:

Goal of loose 16’s is done!
I have just 22 more fasting days to pour into the pot.
BMI is now 29.8 - below 30 now!
Todays weight is 184.5

I’ve been dirty fasting the past week. Just with some HWC and xylitol in the coffee in the morning. I realize I need to kick back out of that by next week as I do want some autophagy.

Coffee is making me sweat up a storm already this morning.

It looks like you’re ahead of schedule on your goals. The clothes are loose and I don’t see any reason you wouldn’t make your weight goal by the deadline if you stick to your plan. Great job!

I just scrolled up to remind myself what my original goal was (I know there was a more ambitious goal, too, but I’m choosing reality) It was 165 lbs and fitting into my summer clothes. I do fit into my summer clothes now; some are a bit loose. And my weight is bouncing around 165, just above or below. New goal: fast MWF; I believe that gives me 14 fasting days. Get to 160 lbs by Sept. 22.

Going to buy a new scale today as I know the one I have isn’t working well even with new batteries. I just hope the new one isn’t higher.

Woohoo! Goals coming in for everybody! What will you do with your summer wardrobe once it starts falling off? :joy:

I really need to toss and delete the fat stuff. In the past I’d hang on with the scarcity mentality. I’m determined to have a different mind set this time. If I get too heavy again I need to stop myself and fast again.

I finally put a load of laundry in. Even better, it’s in the dryer and another one is going!

My current shorts fit for about the first hour or two after being washed and then get stretched out. I dislike belts. My closet will be getting cleared out this month.

I have a lot of big t-shirts too. I’d sleep in them but it’s too hot right now and I have PJ’s if I’m cold. Hate tossing clothes but they are not in great shape for donations.

I have spandex like shorts too. Those will be getting the brunt of it probably starting two weeks from now. But I try avoiding wearing those to the store. And some days they are too hot to wear too.

I need you all to remind me not to buy anything new unless it’s wicked on sale. Send me to the thrift store as size 14 will likely be too big by December. That one pair of new 14 shorts is going to have to do.

Hey all,

Thanks for sharing your journey on here! It’s great to see the dedication you each have to your goals, as well as the camaraderie for fasting-- not so easy to find for extended fasts!

I’m curious how long you guys might be at this? I’m considering doing a weekly 48-72 hr fast for some weeks into the fall, and would love to join you here if you think you might be doing this for a bit longer.

Hi @Jewell !

Yes! Join on in!

This particular challenge thread is to carry us to September 22nd which is the first day of Fall. And then we can start a new one.

We still have over a month to go so plenty of time to get some solid goals in.

I’m presently flipping between 48’s and 72’s.

I won’t be finished after this challenge time slot as I’m working to get from out of obese to just overweight by the end of it😂.

And actually today started thinking about how the next 3 months after might go. I don’t expect to see my end goal weight until next year.

So hop on in with a plan.

Thanks, @Miramar! I look forward to it.

For me, the idea with fasting for the next few months will be utilizing it as a reset and a check-in, to help establish healthy routines around food and exercise and also maintain a healthy weight. I’ve recognized that I need to approach nutrition and well-being with an eye for sustainability and longevity, so rather than have 1-2 extended fasts, I’ll opt for a weekly 24-72 hr fast, depending on what I’ve got going on that week. I hope to do this from now until about Thanksgiving, but for now I’ll start with the same time frame that you are working on-- until September 22! It will be nice to reassess a month from now and gauge what worked and what didn’t.

I did a ~60 hr fast this week, as well as a 24 hr, so I plan to eat as normal over the weekend and hop back in next week-- looking forward to it!

@Miramar, how are you feeling with your consistent period of fasting? You are making great progress and it sounds like you have a great attitude-- has it felt doable, or overwhelming at times? Congrats on tossing out the clothes that no longer fit-- that must feel amazing!

@Sky-- congrats on the new goal! And hopefully the new scale is a worthy purchase.

Have a great day!
