Day 3 was challenging because I have easy access to delicious food at the hotel I work in. I have found, though that smelling delicious food without eating them, can actually be quite enjoyable. Crazy huh?

Great job so far!
I’m staying at a hotel at the moment as well, and it can be really tempting to think about the breakfasts haha!
Luckily, food is always going to be there, and we don’t need it every day!
Wait till you get to the point where you are sitting across from someone who is wolfing down their food with gusto and you find it oddly satisfying. LOL
Day 4 end - I felt dizzy mid day (probably being out for 45 minutes in the heat and sun). Almost had a blackout and chose to lie down and sleep mid day. Woke up thinking only of food. Since its been my longest fast ever, decided to break fast with 2 eggs and cabbage and a few peanuts. Was so full of energy , I worked out for 40 mins. Took a cold shower and I feel completely rejuvenated
I could go back to eating. But I’m choosing to restart my fast again. My goal is to do 7 days at a stretch. So I’ll just continue for 3 days more and see how I feel. Right now I feel a bit silly for having caved in. But I’m getting up, and plodding on. Onward ho!
@EstherC. Remember what Yas’ is always saying you’ve got to “build up your fasting muscle.”
For myself, I increased my water fasts over time: 4, 5, 7 and then the BIG 40 day.
FYI: The 1st 3 to 4 days are the hardest as your body transitions from glucose to adipose burning for energy. It gets easier as the hunger hormone, Ghrelin’s production begins to get suppressed by ketones when you get into ketosis.
Good luck and look forward to reading more about your journey!
Thank you! Yes I knew it was hard, but the blackout was unexpected. Now that I’ve worked out and eaten a bit, I feel I could have stuck it out, but hey, the meal I ate was protein and low carb. Hoping it will get easier this time around
I’d reduce the workouts. A former member, who is a soldier serving in Afghanistan, wouldn’t cut back on her workouts and fainted at work.
From an analysis I conducted of the Oct/Nov fast challenge and Fastmas, strenuous workouts were the #4 reason people failed to reach their fasting goals.
Fasting is stressful on the body and you don’t need to add to it. When I did my 40-day the most strenuous exercise I did was a 1 to 2 mile daily walk.
Congrats!
I know that feeling. I was able to don shorts I haven’t worn since my windsurfing days in the late 80s!.
Ended the fast after 4 days. I hope to come back here on Feb 1st and shoot for 7.
Was the reason being able to wear your daughter’s pants? Just would like to know the reason for the pause.
Thanks in advance!
Now that’s a very interesting observation. It could very well be the tipping point. There were other factors as well, Blacking out on the last day and with a huge craving for food. Volter Llongo’s interview in which he said 4 - 5 day fasts every month was sufficient to improve biomarkers. Or maybe, just fitting into UK size 6
I think when Dr Longo was talking about the 4 to 5 fasts per month wasn’t there the assumption it was based on using his Fast Mimicing Protocol? I think I may have seen that interview, was it with Dr. Rhonda Patrick or was it from his TedTalk?
Blacking out on the last day is a BIG deal! Do you have a hypotheses on what caused it?
Volter said water fast or FMD, both work. 5 days every month or quarter depending on the severity of symptoms (chronic inflammation, cholesterol, autoimmune diseases) … I don’t need to lose weight anymore, but I love the longevity aspect, since I’m shooting for a life and healthspan of 120 years.
Blackout… Nothing serious at all. Just low blood pressure and driving 90 minutes in a hot car without using the airconditioner… I’m an idiot… I thought I could get the benefits of a sauna.
I was fine after I rested for a couple of hours. But woke only thinking of food. So decided to “listen to my body” and eat “sumpfin” (
Yes. The primary reason for doing the 40 day was having all the dead and senescent cells in my major organs replaced by new ones from the stem cells produced in the liver during the fast.
Which resulted in:
- More energy
- Require less sleep
- More efficient bowel movement. Before I had a health crisis in 2010, I go and my bowel movement would take me 5 minute and I was done. After 2010 and early into my treatment protocol I’d sit on the toilet for half and hour. Used to drive me nuts. Now I’m back to getting my business done quickly and getting on with my life.
- Believe I got rid of both Fatty Liver and Fatty Pancreas.
- Achieved priority goal of becoming “medication free”.
That’s such an incredible achievement. Truly, in a fear inspiring ways, we are wonderfully made. Our body can heal itself, given the right environment. Thank you for re instilling in me the resolve to keep fasting. Yes I can. Yes I will.
I do want to move away from meat though. I would like to be vegan. But eggs are OK once in a way. Fats from avocados, coconut, nuts. Interacting with you has coalesced a plan of eating mostly raw high fat vegetable based diet with the odd egg thrown in for good measure. Fasting for 5 to maybe 7 days a month seems doable. Perhaps I should start tomorrow… I don’t know. But thank you so much for helping me clarify my thoughts. So grateful to you. Should I do another 5 day fast this month itself because its January?
Thank you.
Listen to your body. I was trying to start a new 7-day fast and I failed for 4 consecutive days. At first, I thought it was a matter of willpower. Then I realized it was my body screaming at me to take a break. By that time I was 2 1/2 months into my treatment protocol and stuck to it pretty rigorously.
I FINALLY listened to my body, ended up doing a 9-day ReFeed. That’s exactly what my body needed because immediately thereafter I began and successfully completed the 40-day.
Again, listen to your body. If it says its ready then go for it. If not just add another ReFeed day.
Let me know if you have questions.
