Dave's Journal

Decided to finally commit to a long term fast.
Start day 10/27/19
Goal length: 14 days
CW: 214.4 lb
Height 5’11

I was 236 lbs at the beginning of the year. From January to May I lost 30 pounds doing IF and keto. Since then, I reverted back to my old eating habits and gained 10 pounds. Today I decided that I needed to take conscious steps towards better health and finally get out of the overweight category.
Prior to this fast, the longest water fast I’ve ever done is a 94 hour fast. I feel like 14 days is challenging but definitely achievable.

Day 1
Coming up on the end of day 1. Been studying for much of the day (senior undergrad), so that was nice because it took my mind off of eating. I think the main struggles will probably come in the next day or two but I’m mentally prepared for it!

Day 2 has been so hard!
I had an exam today and my stomach was growling the whole time. I feel a bit cold at times but other than that everything has been normal. One of my biggest goals is to get below 200 lbs (hard to believe it’s been nearly 3 years since then). I graduate in December so it would be nice to be a bit lighter by then :grinning:

Treating every day as a small win!

I appreciate the encouragement!

Day 3
Today wasn’t easy but I managed to pull through. I feel like I would have short bursts of about 20 or so minutes every few hours where I feel hungry. Officially 71 hours into the fast atm! When I make it past tomorrow, I will be beating my previous longest fast of 94 hours.

Weight: 209 lb

Day 4
Still going! Today was a bit easier than yesterday. Lately, a bunch of people have been asking me out to get food… uhh, the temptation. I still feel colder than usual, but other than that everything has been great.

In handle those situations of temptation by remembering Arya from Game of Thrones, “Not Today!”

Cold is good! Cold is your body increasing blood flow to your fat stores so it can move the fat towards your muscle and use it as fuel! Cold = major fat burning! Good job!

Day 5
Today was a bit rough. I had to stay up late yesterday to complete some work. Ended up only getting 2-3 hours of sleep :pensive:. Also, my friend was eating a cheesesteak (my fave) today at lunch and I wanted to get one soooo bad. Nevertheless, I stayed strong and drank water!

Another day down!

Day 6
I felt nauseous for most of the day. It’s a very uncomfortable feeling but it seems to have subsided after drinking lots of water. OH, I also had to take a link off of my watch today since it was getting way too loose and kept sliding down my arm.

Tangible results!

Day 7 complete
Unfortunately, I can’t meet my goal fast lenght though. I have a networking dinner that I have to attend on Thursday so that means that I probably need to start my refeed tomorrow. It was actually scheduled 2 days ago but I really wanted to get to at least 7 days. However, this is not the end! This was an amazing experience and I look forward to giving it another go in the not so distance future. I’m probably going to refeed and then do keto OMAD for 1-2 weeks (sister’s birthday is also in 10 days, we’re going out for something keto) and then give it another go by the end of November. My next extended fast will probably be 7-14 days long. I also am probably going to add a before and after picture tomorrow.

Also, I would like to thank all that are active on this forum. You guys truly inspire me. I wouldn’t have made it this far without you guys.

Fantastic! Can’t wait to see your before/after pictures and OMAD is a fantastic plan as well! You can always do a small refeed and jump back into fasting when you’re ready! Happy birthday to your sister!!! :fire::fire::fire: You’re Amazing!

1 week fast (180 hours to be precise) before and after

Starting weight: 214.4 lb/ 97.5 kg
End weight: 199.8 lb/ 90.63kg

Currently on my bone broth refeed. Tried my best to stand in the same spot. Pictures have different complexions because I recently got a new phone. As for exercise, I usually walk close to 10,000 steps on days when I have classes. Happy fasting!

Starting another fast!

Today was day 1 of my new extended water fast. The refeed from the first one went fairly smoothly, but the past 3 days I gave in and had a bunch of carbs :pensive:. Had a moment of weakness today where I was so close to opening a bag of chips but I didn’t give in!
Day 1 this time around seems a lot harder than the first fast though :frowning: .

Goal length - 5-10 days (Day by day after day 5)
Day 1 weight: 203 lb/ 92.08 kg
Height: 5’11/ 180.5 cm

The main goal of this fast: I felt amazing after the first fast. Physically I felt light on my feet and mentally I felt sharp. I mainly want to ride this momentum and hop right into another one. Weight wise I hope to finally get out of the 200s for good. Overall, I just want to be healthier.

Day 2
Just an average day. I guess thats a good thing because the goal is to make fasting second nature. Currently taking it day by day. It would be cool if I could beat my previous fast of 180 hours but we’ll see

Weight: 201.8 lb

Day 2!
Yes, day 2 again :pensive:
I made it to day 3 of my initial fast on Tuesday, but then one thing led to another and I went out to eat with friends. Ohh wellll, treating it as a short 3 day fast with a small refeed. Yesterday was day 1 and it went pretty well. Day 2 has been easy so far! My goal is to make it a week.

Weight: 199.6 lb

Update!

Second extended fast - Ended up only going 5 days because I was feeling extremely nauseous. I think it’s because of the pink himalayan salt; I hate the taste of saltwater and probably need to dilute it more. I might try to not consume it next fast to see how I feel without it (feels more like a detriment atm).

I’ve been refeeding for the past two days and it’s been good so far!
Probably gonna take it easy for the next few days and start another fast Sunday.

I felt amazing during the fast besides feeling extremely nauseous after drinking the saltwater on the fifth day. Also, I’ve been incorporating more bodyweight exercises now that I can do a good amount of reps without feeling dog tired after the first few.

2nd Fast
Starting weight: 202-203 lb
End Weight: 195.4
Weight two days after fast: 196.4

Progress pics!

Taken 2 days after the fast @ 196.4lb

Bonus pic - Me at my heaviest (crap quality)

January 2019 - 235 lb

My goal weight atm is 175-180 lb but at this point it’s less about weight. I feel better and better after every fast and that’s the important part! Slow and steady progress
