CiCi Journal

Hi, Im CiCi…I am 66 years old divorced and recently retired. I have 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren. I use to fast many years ago and this year I started back more frequently. I have been doing OMAD and intermittently fasting for years. I started at 180 pounds. I am now 155 and want to get to around 135. I fast mostly because I have a number of illnesses. I have been diagnosed pre diabetic and I also have fibromyalgia. I also have degenerative disc disease. I take high blood pressure and cholesterol meds daily. Along with that I have irritable bowels and gurd. Sounds horrible huh? So this is the main reason I fast. Fasting rids my body of the inflammation. The longest I have fasted so far is 12 days. I would like to do more. I can fast easily. I usually have no hunger even from the first day. Hunger for me is all mental.

The problem I mainly have is as soon as I start my re-feed, I go back to eating like I did before the fast. Right now I am trying to train myself to eat better. I have fasted up until day 6 with you and then I ate. I usually do 23/1 hours because I get full quickly theses days. I would like to do every other day eating(48hrs). I haven’t been successful yet. I know its all mental and I mess up every time. I have been down to 140 several times. So yoyo for is real. I have to fast to keep the inflammation down in my body. I need to do this so badly. I want to see if loosing the weight will heal me and fix a lot of my problems.

I forgot to say that I am computer challenged and not sure if I did this correctly. I am happy to be here and hope that I am finally on the journey of healing myself!

Welcome Cici to our fasting community. I’m the resident “greybeard” both figuratively and literally. Figuratively, because I completed the longest fast here, 40 days. Literally, because I was the oldest at 60.

I can relate to your situation, medically. In June of last year, I was told I had my T2 diabetes “under control” but it did not match the reality of my deteriorating health. I had gained 20 pounds in the year since I started taking insulin injections, my blood pressure had risen to “hypertensive crisis” at 191/103 and my CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) had progressed so I was one step closer to the dialysis machine. I also suffered from high cholesterol and gout.

So I said “screw it” and began researching. I started my science-based treatment protocol on August 9th. On December 13th, when I saw my Physician’s Assistant to review the results of my lab test, blood pressure and the weight scale I was officially “medication free”.

HA1c of 5.7 - On the border of normal
Blood Pressure: 121/81
Uric Acid: Normal
Cholesterol: Normal
CKD: Making positive progress. But, having eliminated the 2 causes of CKD: diabetes and hypertension I believe its just a matter of time.

I have several journals on the forum. The one you may want to read is, Alipio’s 40-day Water Fast and Post-Fast Refeed Journal.

Let me know if you have any questions, I try to help everyone but I am especially interested in those with T2 diabetes.

Thanks for responding. Sounds like you know a lot about this stuff. I guess I need to check out what my numbers are. I usually don’t take my meds when I’m fasting and I am pretty sure my numbers are at closer to normal. I think I am going to have to check with my doctor. So far I have been just keeping up with my progress on my own. I was apprehensive at bring this up with the doctor about fasting. I will definitely check out your information.
Sounds like now I am the oldest one here
I look forward to getting to know this forum and how to follow it.

Yes, good to know your starting point.

I took my labs the day before I started and then my labs 11 days into my ReFeed. In hindsight, I should have scheduled it 21 days into my ReFeed but I didn’t know as much about rebuilding the major organs after a prolonged water fast as I do now.

Thank you for the info. I am going to check with my doctor soon.

Hello everyone!!! Today I am Water Fasting, I have decided to start again. I think I am ready to begin again. I did OMAD for 3 days and feel I am ready to get back on track. I feel great, except I am having a flair-up, my neck and shoulder are stiff. Not sure how it happened, but I think WF cures everything, so I will see what happens . I feel like I have my mind right and ready to continue fasting through the month. I really feel like making the pledge helped me to realize that I am accountable now and have to stick to what I started. Thank you so much Yas! I appreciate all you do and I want to get myself healed once and for all.

Best of luck! We’re here for support!

thanks you so much!!! I already feel the love:heart_eyes:

Hello!!! day 2 of my water fast. Feeling good except for my stiff neck and aching body. Feels like I’m coming down with the flu or something. I figure all the more reason for me to continue my fast. I did add salt to my water. Amazing how satisfying that was. It also gets rid of that nasty mouth taste. I’ve been keeping busy and just trying to not let this cold take up residence in me. I was wondering if its like Yas talked about fasting flu or something. It just came out of nowhere. Regardless I am focused on my healing… no matter what!!!

It’s common to experience a feeling similar to the flu when the body is in the process of converting its energy source from glycogen to ketone bodies! It’s known as the Keto flu, and it usually passes after 3-5 days of fasting!
Potassium and magnesium might help to ease the symptoms if you have any available!
Hope you’ll feel better soon! Great job so far :muscle:

Thank you. I will try some magnesium. I wonder is it okay to take a ibuprofen? It seems to be worse at night. I may even have a slight fever.

I’m not a doctor so it’s important to consult a doctor or do own research if you’re taking any medications during fasting!
It’s recommended to take ibuprofen with food! Some medications can damage the lining of the stomach and cause bleeding!
It’s much better to drink water and take mineral supplements to feel better!

Thanks Anna, the pain got really bad last night, so today I am eating something so I can take some meds. Not sure what’s going on, but I can’t take the pain anymore. I will get back on track once I figure out why I am having so much pain

It’s good to listen to the body when something doesn’t feel right! I hope you’ll feel better soon!

Yes, wise decision. Find out the reason and hope you feel better.

hello all, Still in excruciating pain here. I did come to the conclusion that it must be as a result of me being stressful lately. This seems to be the worst flair up I have ever had. I was trying to see if I could ride it out and not take any medication, but last night I had to begin meds in order to relieve myself of the pain. I am still doing OMAD and watching what I eat: no carbs. I am trying not to beat myself up about this. I didn’t go to the doctor yet because I feel that they are just going to want to give me medications. I really hate taking prescription drugs. I want to rid myself of this naturally. My family is giving me a hard time and I may just go to the doctor to satisfy them. I just know I am not going to take pain meds. I have taken them in the past and ended up with ulcers.
I feel happy that I realized that it was stress that triggered this. Stress is a terrible thing. I need to Rid myself of any undo stress and get myself healed. I guess the older we get the worse these things get . Sorry for bowing out of the fast now. I am still down 151 pounds, so am happy about that, No appetite I guess is the reason. Once I get this tackled I will be back on track with you guys. I wasn’t sure where to put my update as I am still trying to figure out this forum.

This is entirely appropriate because accomplishing change always include struggles. When I run into the inevitable adversity I always turn to this inspirational speech by actor Denzel Washington:

Also do go see your doctor for at least the diagnosis. Especially since the pain is continuing.
