I ran across this channel today but started fasting on the 7th of Jan. I entend on going 30 days water fasting for 10 days then doing OMAD for 24 hrs and fasting for 3 days!
Up to this point it has been hard! I weighed myself monday and weighed in at my heaviest weight since having my boys of 236.7… I’m determined to be fit not just for ne but for them!
The things that have been hardest for me was needing to cook for them to make sure they eat. But I’m motivated to make it 30 days! My goal weight is 145lbs. I will weigh myself daily and hope I rock this.
Better late than never
Welcome to the forum! I’m glad you joined, it’s a very good tool to get support and help from others who are going through the same process!
I recently completed a 30 day fast, and it helped to write about it here, even if it’s just a short post each day on how you’re feeling or tracking energy levels, emotions or what ever you’d like to write about!
I wish you the best! Happy fasting
Keep in mind that “wanting” to eat food is different than true hunger. Ignore the want. Your body is feasting on reserves, you’ll be just fine. Eventually you will get so strong your “wanting” to eat will no longer be a problem. It may go away completely.
Thanks… I must of been up for days watching videos reading books listening to podcasts. I’m a yoyo dieter so I know I can lose it but keeping it off is my goal! I want to be happy when I look in the mirror and life a long health life for my boys
So did you do 30 days on just liquids? I want to complete 30 days as I think that will get a bulk of the weight off. What advice would you have.? I got a little confused watching videos…
I did water fasting for 30 days, but added salt, magnesium and potassium (which is well recommended when doing longer fasts).
I’m not sure if you’re experienced with fasting already or if you’re new to it, but I think my advice would be to lean into it! First start off with 1-3 day water fasts, then aim for a week, and then longer! Other than that, try to not exercise too much when fasting, since that seems to be one of the main reasons people get too drained in energy!
Feel free to ask anything if you have questions!
Exactly! Mental hunger versus actual hunger! Ride out the waves of hunger, they will pass!)
Perfect advice !
Welcome to our community!
I was a yo-yo dieter my whole life!!!
- Gym and protein shakes
- 2 hours of gym and low cal
- 5 meals a day meal prep
- Jenny Craig
- Nutrisystem
Always had trouble until I discovered intermittent fasting which made eating delicious foods SO sustainable!
I have been following OMAD - One Meal A Day for a long time, and I never knew it would be so sustainable! I have also been following low-carb keto, and those tips with a couple water fasts have made it possible to not gain the weight back this time! For the first time in my life!
Keep posting here daily, you’ll learn that it’s possible to cook for others without eating!
I’m on day 9 of a water fast (with a former addiction to carbs, sugar, overeating and often secret eating and binging) and I cook every day and I tell myself, I can eat the food, just not right now!
Welcome to our fasting community.
All the previous member posts have pretty much covered everything I had to say so I’ll add my personal 2 cents worth, if its worth that much.
I “leaned’ into water fasting as Anna suggested. I spent 11 days of I.F., Time Restricted Eating and OMAD. When I tacked Prolonged Water Fasting I did: 4,5,7 & then the BIG 40.
My primary goal was NOT weight loss. It was to be “medication free”. When I started I suffered from: T2 diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, gout and CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease). I achieve my primary goal last month and lost 81 pounds. Everything is normal or cured except the CKD which is showing positive progress. As I eliminated the 2 main causes of CKD: diabetes and hypertension I’m confident its just a matter of time.
I’ve gained 18 pounds back but I’m working on regaining flexibility and aerobic endurance, and getting ready to tackle another water fast later this month.
Let the community know if you have any questions or just need to yell for help! LOL
I can certainly relate to you. I have also been a yo-yo dieter in the past. This forum has helped me to want to stay focused and know that I have no other choice but to reach my goal. Hang in there we are all in this together step by step!
Today was a hard day for me. I dont know if it was the feeling of being hungry or my dizzy spells. I can say I’m happy I’m not working because taking care of two active boys is keeping me busy. I did go for a mile walk and did a bit of core training today. I have a few things I want to work on body wise such as my arms and love handles… so… weigh in today was 230.2 lbs. I see the scale moving but I dont feel any different when I look in the mirror…
I had a moment of temptation where i wanted to stress eat today after getting some pretty bad news about my babies but I’m still here with ya.
Way to stay mentally strong.
Monitor your energy levels closely. You may want to keep the daily walk but may have to drop the core training. Reason is fasting by its very nature is stressful to the body. You don’t want to overload the body with the added stress of workouts.
The reason I say this is I did an analysis of all the participants in the last two fast challenges in this forum. The #5 reason people failed to reach their fasting goals was strenuous workouts. Had one member faint at work because she refused to cut down on her workouts while working 12 hour days.
But as long as your energy levels are good, go ahead. Just watch it closely.
On wow thanks for that advice. I will pushot it back for a bit until I start eating again. I do want to succeed at this.
Question how long can you fast before you have to eat.? I know your body will tell ya when it’s at its breaking point, but what is the max amount of days recommended?
Just take it day by day. I can’t tell from your journal entries if you’ve done prolonged water fasts before. So I’m going to assume this is your 1st time.
We had a 1st timer just complete a 7-day fast. She took it day by day and she succeeded. She’s going to do a ReFeed and then consider a longer fast.
Another member tackled and completed a 7-day and decided to try for 10-days. She took it day by day and completed the 10-day.
Everybody is different. As you saw from my 1st post I worked up to my 40-day by doing several longer and longer water fasts to build up my “fasting muscle” as Yas often puts it. Just listen to your body and if you get too weak or too nauseous call it a victory, learn from it, refeed and then consider a longer fast.
Today is day 5 for me and I finally don’t feel hungry. I need to monitor my fluid intake as I dont think I’m drinking enough now that I’m not feeling the urge to. I have still been feeling light headed. So I think I will start adding a little bit more of the Himalayan salt to my water. I dont have a scale but I do see a small change in my belly from the first pics I took, which makes me excited that its actually working.
Congrats on making it this far. Good job.
Monitor your energy levels as your body will require a lot as it adjusts to ketosis. Move slowly and take a lot of breaks.
Be on the lookout for detox symptoms which will be your next big challenge.
So, day 6-8 I did fast I didnt have energy or patience for the phone it’s hard when you have small kids. I had headaches, dizzy spells, pains in joints, sleepless night, and really low energy… I was ready to throw in the towel but day nine came. I woke up and felt like it was all a bad dream… my energy was thru the roof. I felt like me again! I didnt have the urge to eat! And I was ok. I didnt venture from the house much. The boys were on oatmeal for breakfast some fruit for snacks pbnj for lunch and a reheatable for dinner(I normally make us grits eggs toast and a meat for breakfast… a cold cut for lunch… chips cookies or cereal for their snack… and dinner was always big like chicken and rice with cabbage and cornbread)…
But all in all it was my first fast I made it to my goal of 10days and am very happy with that.
While I was fasting I was looking up vegan meals. When I start eating again, I may do a meatless monday and I do need to incorporate more veggies into our meals I’ve noticed they snack alot and look at me crazy when I try to get them to eat their veggies…
So here arm my stats
Begin weight 236
Current weight 212
Goal weight 140
So I have a way to go but I’m going to do rolling 72s (fast 72hrs eat OMAD) and then start fresh Feb 1st and try to go for days.
Congratulations on your success so far! I’m really happy you manage to prove to yourself that you could do it!
