Beita's second fasting attempt

COVID- 19 hit me hard. I felt like my life was put on hold and filled with anxiety not only for my kids safety but also for not being able to travel and help my mother with my father’s mental illness. I used to be in shape and enjoyed getting dressed every day. My way of coping with the situation was unfortunately turning to food and wine. The pounds went up and my sadness as well. Motivation is not there anymore and after trying multiple times to defeat this unhealthy circle I feel like a looser. My clothes don’t fit anymore and nothing seems to make sense. Why I’m I trying this 7 day water fast?

  • To be able to enjoy getting dressed every day.
-To enjoy looking at myself in the mirror.
-To see my skin glow again.
-To show myself that I can get back in shape, keep my hope high.
-To be that self confident woman again.

-To feel clean, healthy and ready to finish this year in a good way.
-To leave my “fat cloud” go away.

I have to admit though that all my failures to reach my goals (I’ve tried it al least 4 times this year!), make me feel scared. It’s hard for me believe in myself right know. I hope that the tools that this experience is giving me will make the so much wanted difference.

I’m in my day 2 of water fast and the zoom meetings begin today. I can’t wait to be and feel the “group strength”

Today is Day Three of my 7 days water fast. I woke up feeling lightheaded and with this weird feeling in my stomach. I have felt like this before during dieting and I don’t like it at all. The other side of the coin is that my weight is coming down which motivates me (even if it’s just water :stuck_out_tongue:).
Preparing breakfast was a challenge but reading chapter 12 of “Brain over Binge” really kicked off! Yesterday’s first Zoom session was also really helpful for that sense of commitment to the plan.

I booked my first massage after 6 months and I can’t wait. When I get into to circle of overeating I usually stop taking care of myself. I don’t feel like putting on makeup, dressing nicely or giving me any kind of treats (like massages). And I know that makes the hole situation even worse. So, I’ve decided to put into my daily habits tracker “Pampering myself” to make sure I give value to my body everyday.

I am a little scared about my first fasting weekend. I have fasted only for two days in the past and NEVER, EVER during weekends when usually by binge eating takes place.

I would love to have some feedback about how to succeed a weekend of fasting. I know now how important it is for me to feel that others were able to make it and how. I wish you all the best and happy weekend fast!!!

Hey Beita !
I love the honesty in your post. The fact that you are so honest about your feelings and taking steps beyond just fasting is amazing. I will take your advice and also book a massage for the end of my fast !
I hope the feeling in your stomach went away and if not try sparkling water it does wonders for me.
As for fasting on the weekends, I suggest you spend some quality time with your children and avoid huge social gatherings since you are only doing a 7day fast. Also take one day at the time and don’t think of Saturday and Sunday as a whole, but individual days like you did on during the week.
I hope you hang in there !
loads of love, :hugs:

Thanks so much Amy for your reply! The stomach problem went away but it’s been a hard day. I’ve struggled the entire afternoon and it’s hard not the have the usual Friday family dinner and my Sparkling wine:)
I will follow your advice and concentrate in quality family time.

Hey Amy! Thanks for your message. You’re really sweet♥️. I just woke up and feel a little lightheaded. I want to drink some electrolytes but the ones that I have say they contain Glucose anhydrous. Do you know if that will break my fast?
How are you doing? Staying strong?

Hey Beita,
It’s a pleasure :orange_heart: :hugs:
Like you said the lightheadedness may be due to depleted electrolytes. Try some Himalayan salt and SmartWater, it does wonders for me.
As for your electrolytes, I will recommend staying clear of them not because it will break your fast but because it might be sweet. The glucose even in traces will awaken your taste buds and make you want to eat.
I’m not sure what part of the world you are in, but I suppose it’s almost 6pm if not later so hang in there. :muscle:
The day is almost over.
Loads of love,
Amy

Good morning Amy! I made it trough day 4!!! I just woke up and still feeling lightheaded. It goes away after a while, so I just need to take my electrolytes and wait. This day is going to be a mayor challenge. I can’t remember when I when able to stick to an eating plan on a Sunday…do you have any plans for today?

Hello! I’m happy to say that I made it trough Sunday. I just started Day 5 of my 7 Day fast. My family is starting to push me in order to stop me from fasting. My husband started to ask me if this is a good idea, that I’m Hangry and that it can’t be healthy…I know I can’t convince him and that he won’t watch any videos that may help him to understand. My daughters (13,13 and 10 years old) are asking me questions about why I’m not eating. The 10 year old asked yesterday if I was suffering :pensive: . It’s not easy to explain it to them.
I hope this day goes by quickly!

I stocked up on a case of knockoff Pellegrino.

I have a soda stream as well.

But yeah, the mineral water tastes totally different.

Hey Beita,
I really hope you stayed the course, after today you’ll only have 2days or 48hrs to go!
Regarding your family, I’ve watched so many videos about water fasting what to do/ not to do or expect but not a single one talks about how to deal with your immediate family or loved ones.
They usually don’t understand like 99% of people and that’s ok but I think it’s our responsibility to talk to them and explain our process so they are also prepared.
Sharing a meal and enjoying it is human nature and it’s such a convivial moment that seeing your loved one fasting triggers them.
It’s so important to seat them down and explain to them why and how long you’ll be fasting and reassure them. Also it’s not about them and expecting them to totally understand why you are doing this is not fair but what you should expect from them is their support because they love you.
Just talk to your girls and hubby, they love you :orange_heart:

big hugs :hugs:
Amy
