30 Day Fast

Hi guys

I’m new here and signed up after stumbling on a fasting video on YouTube. Call it fate but I had been planning on doing a long fast for fat and weight loss so this forum is great and the timing is perfect.

Current I don’t have any acute or chronic health issues and besides my weight I am pretty healthy. This includes normal lipid panel and a1c. However, working in the healthcare field I know that this can change quickly if ones weight is not controlled and maintained.

I lost around 25lb in 2018 after doing keto for 6 weeks but then stopped and gained all the weight back within a year. I enjoy a carnivore and keto lifestyle because that’s when my body feels its best. Instead of focusing on those lifestyles (which I will after this fast), I feel like my body needs a wake up call. I have too many cravings for carbs right now to be able to focus on being carnivore or keto. Fasting has previously helped me keep the weight off even after I stopped keto, which is why it took a year for me to gain 25lbs when in the past I have gained that amount with a month or two.

The longest waster fast I’ve have to date has been a little over 9 days. The fast included distilled water, black decaf coffe, electrolyte drink and acv along with taking Mg, K and pink salt when needed. I will follow the same protocol this time. I also plan on including floor exercises when possible. I am up on feet all day and get about 8-10K steps in at work.

I hope to post an update daily along with a picture of my fasting app and my weight.

H: 5’7”
CW: 224.4lbs (this morning)
GW: 135-140lbs

Good luck to everyone else here who is currently on a fast or planning to do one!

Welcome. I’ll keep an eye on you.:face_with_monocle:

You have experience, a good plan and are healthy. The only thing is monitor your energy levels as you get deeper into the fast. I’ve seen too many members fail because they refuse to reduce their workouts and they over stressed their bodies. Speaking from experience of having done a 4, 5, 7, 21 & 40 day.

Thanks. Feel free to call me out on any bs I might post

Yes given that I have a fairly active job, I will play it day by day when it comes to exercising. That’ll be more of a focus after the fast. Thanks for your input!

First update. Day 2 has been going well so far. Very busy day at work so I was nervous about getting a headache or feeling dizzy but none of that. I will have an electrolyte drink soon to prevent any of those symptoms.

Weight this morning was 221.8lbs.

Additional stats are that I am a 35 yo southeast Asian female. My weakness has always been rice and I’ve never found a good alternative for it (cauliflower rice is not RICE :yum:) so it’s something I have been able to keep in my diet in limited quantities without any major repercussions as along as I do cardio.

Feel you. I’m Filipino so rice has been a major staple of my daily diet as long as I can remember. Luckily, I’ve found better alternatives or cook such delicious proteins and vegetables that I minimize the amount of rice. An example is my homemade steak & broccoli where its so tasty I don’t need much rice with the meal.

That’s great. Since we eat lots of curries, I haven’t a proper vessel for it since it’s either rice or some type of bread.

I have noticed that as long as I can get enough protein in, my cravings for carbs goes way down. I also have keto snacks to fall back on weekends if things get tough. So I do have a plan after this fast. I would like some advice for how to properly break such a long fast. After my 9 day fast I had homemade bone broth for the first two days and then slowly transitioned to eggs and meats. This worked well so would like to know if that’s a good approach.

Each of us is different. Check out @Anna Daily Journal on how she broke her fast. She also has a Vegan/Vegetarian’s Guide posted in one of the other categories.

For myself, I broke my 40-day fast with 2 cans of Campbell’s Vegetable & Beef soup which was my OMAD.then the next day 2 more meals of the same thing. But I have a cast iron stomach, lol. I introduced solid food by the 3rd day.

That’s true. I will probably follow what I did last time and/or listen to my body. If I have to prolong the broth and soft boiled egg stage, I will do that. I plan on doing 48-72 hour fasts along with a carnivore/keto meals after the 30 days until I reach my goal weight. But that’s all for later. Let me get through this first!

Day 3: Woke up with a very slight headache and am very tired today. Getting out of bed was rough and feeling sluggish at work. Previous day threes have been much worse so that’s a plus. My hunger has been nonexistent which I find very odd. During previous fasts, day 3 & 4 have always been a mind over matter type of struggle where my hunger was at an high. Not that I’m complaining but it’s still odd. I didn’t become this size due to a lack of hunger .
Weight this morning was 220.2 lbs. I am also starting to notice the bitter taste in my mouth. So far so good!

Day 4 and still doing great. I’m so shocked about the lack of hunger because this hasn’t happened before. I do have heightened sense of smell, like right now our break room at work smells delicious, making my mouth water but there is no hunger and I have zero urge to eat anything.

Normally I love the taste of water but during fasts that go past 4 days, water starts to taste bitter and is hard to consume for me. I have fixed that issue in the past by just pulling through but this time my fast is so much longer so I might have to drink more of the electrolyte flavored water. I would have preferred to go with a non flavored electrolyte powder but it’s zero calories so I’m ok with it.

By monthly cycle started and along with it usually comes hunger and cravings but there is nothing and I’m ecstatic . I am bloated and was worried that the number on the scale wouldn’t change much and considered not weighing myself for the next few days. But I changed my mind cause it’s just too tempting.

This morning my weight was 217.6 lbs.

Day 5: So the hunger came last night but is much lower today. I have not been exercising this past week and do miss doing some type of cardio but the dizziness and possible breaking of the fast is keeping me away from doing it. Mostly cause I don’t want to be tempted to break the fast.

Weekends in the past have been my biggest struggle during extended fasts. Except for one, all other extended fasts in the past have been focused to be around Mon-Fri because being at work helps me tremendously. I’m not gonna lie, I am nervous.

As always I will listen to my body first before anything else. I am curious as to how far I will go.

Weight this morning was 216.2 lbs.

So I broke my fast on Saturday with some broth and steak and eggs. It was delicious . I had the same on Sunday and am back to fasting. I decided to end my fast because I felt that the 6 and a half day water fast gave my body that jolt that it needed. I feel very focused now to do the real work of fasting, omad and exercise to reach my goal.

My current schedule will be 72 hour fasts with strict keto/carnivore omad along with cardio and some body weight exercises. I plan to continue this routine all of March and reevaluate and most likely continue next month too. I’m just excited to be able to do cardio because it’s my stress reliever. After a 10-12 hour shift, I missed this while on an extended fast.

My weight this am was 217.4lb and this is my starting point. Thanks for the support. I will post weekly updates since I won’t be weighing in daily anymore.

I will be curious to see how this routine works. I may try it.

Good plan. Similar to mine but in shorter cycles.
