30 Day Fast_LMelina’s Journey

Day 1…Thursday and here’s to new beginnings. I’ve failed so many times even though I’ve fasted a lot. Kicking the sugar and carb habit is a beast. The body can be done with something and the mind will still bring you back. For water fasts I always fail the mucus cleansing stage which is around Days 10-12 for me. My longest water fast is 12 days. I’ve done 52 day juice, 5 day dry… many fasts…but this will be to challenge myself to break through a wall.

Let’s do this… I got this…

Day 2_The caffeine and sugar withdrawal headache has arrived and it’s real. Ugh. I consider it a privilege that I’ve graduated to it coming the second day. But I’m no stranger to what’s set to occur over the next few days. It’s Friday, 6:41 AM and I think I slept good but I feel I’m dragging out of bed. Starting my day shortly with large cup of water. Then graduate to hot water… a mental trick so I’m imagining it’s hot tea or coffee. No weigh-in.

I do OrangeTheory and developed a knot pain in the right leg. I’m realizing that a number of my fasting symptoms or issues manifest in my right leg. But this pain is just soreness because I’m back on a 3-5 day schedule after weeks of being off. The inflammation has me holding fluid there so this fast is also to remove inflammation. The leg isn’t 100% but it’s feeling a little better and I’ll take it.

On to Day 3

Day 3_Headache is gone but the fatigue is there. One thing I like about fasting is that I sleep. Something that I struggle with a lot while eating. Albeit I have GERD. It goes away. Right knee and leg pain diminishing further. Today and tomorrow will be a little rough cause the temptation to break is strong. Taste in my mouth is meh. Trying to pull myself out of bed. I went down earlier last night which was expected. We also had a storm. Tying to debate taking my usual Sunday OT class which is tomorrow. Some say complete rest while others advocate continuing to exercise. Hmm… right now I don’t even feel like walking. But we have a high heat index right now. I will see how I feel tomorrow morning.

Now on to Day 4

Day 4_Made it another day. To me fasting is really a day to day journey. Went shopping yesterday and was ok until I got home and had to slice fresh pineapple for my daughter. It was hard not to break but I dug in and remained strong. Going to read through some of the tips and suggestions. But today is a whole different day with an entirely new set of battles. Head feels wobbly with small pain points here and there but that detox miserable headache is gone. Right leg inflammation continues to feel a little better. Thinking about the refeed process more but I’m a long way off from that.
