Dave: 60 and counting

Nothing much going on over the last three days. The fast is going well - nothing to report, unless to say that I have dropped 16 lbs, for 161 to 145 in 13 days. Felt some twinges of wanting to finish yesterday, but chose to banish the thoughts from my mind, as that doesn’t fit in with what I have committed to. Day 14, the last day initially, is tomorrow, and I should be finishing. But I have decided to go fro the 21 days. maybe 18. We will see. Everything is really quite slow, I’d say about 70% of my usual speed. This is the be expected.

Sounds like you’re doing well by staying in touch with how your body is feeling. You’ll do well.

Today is day 15 coming to a close. Six more to go. Yeah!

Improvements in health:
Nasal passages absolutely clear. A joy to breathe.
Lungs feel good. Any smoking I have done is seemingly not affecting me.
My flexibility is much increased.
Some stomach cramp today and yesterday - dunno what it is, but it’s not too bad.

Had an obsession two days ago to listen to 70’s pop from the UK. Listened for about two hours. Then lost interest. Some sort of clearing up of that period of my life? Hard to say.

Dave 18 almost over. Pretty rough day today - I find my mind thinking about chicken broth much more often than I would like - I still have 3 days to go! This is the tough part. The finishing line is right there, but if I don’t keep the discipline, then I won’t make it. Which is fine, but the aim is 21 days, so that’s where I would like to go this time. Next time, I will rest much more. It’s almost impossilble for me to get 21 days free to do the fast as I would like. Ideally, I would check in to one of those fasting clinics. Then no temptation to ‘cheat’. But damn, they’re sooooo expensive. Outside my budget by far. So I have to do it on my own. Which can build self discipline.

You’re doing so great and you’re so close! Definitely an inspiration!

Finished the fast yesterday - 21 days in the end. Started today with bone broth. Homemade. All went well - sipped on that for a few hours. No problem. Then I decided to have some kefir. Big mistake. Felt like crap for about three hours. OK now though. Back on the broth. Making the broth was good. Clearing up the pots etc was disgusting. Won’t be making that again. Gonna try this one next: https://helloglow.co/vegetarian-bone-broth/ . I can do the low carb (one of my goals), but meat - think I’ll stick with other fats like fish and nuts - https://pescatarianketo.com/information/pescatarian-keto-food-shopping-list/ .

Effects of fast?

  1. Lost 10 kilos (22 pounds), 4 of which will return as water retention. So net loss of 6 kilos (13 pounds), mostly around stomach. It feels very good.
  2. More flexibility.
  3. Sense of purpose - I have formulated a plan to keep making money which can work very well if I plan it right. I am fed by my need to pay for my kids’ education etc, and by being kicked up the backside from the terror of the threat of having to walk the streets of London town for the later years of my life. Both are powerful motivators. My whole life is changing - it has to, and this is the time, and possibly my last chance.
  4. Don’t feel great, but OK. I have slept little (about five hours a day) and fitfully for the last 21 days, not letting myself sleep during the day, on account of having to move, having to work, and having to do various other things. This lack of rest whenever my body wanted it was a mistake, because my body was not as able to heal itself as much as it could have, because lots of its energy was expended in the activities above. We live and learn. In a while, I hope to do a fast with total ‘whenever I want’ rest, with no internet, no work, no responsibilities. THAT fast, I think, will be extremely effective. The real deal, so to speak.

But all in all, a positive experience, and I’m glad I did it.

Thanks for listening and commenting - very helpful. Will stay a few days more to watch Compdude (check out his journal) finish his forty days. Well done sir! Then I will respectfully bow out until next time around. Good luck to all of you with your journeys.

Dave.

Compdude’s journal is called ‘Alipio’s Daily Journal’

Congratulations on a job well done. This success will catapult you to greater heights. Trust me. I know from experience.
